Carb Doctor in Tampa/St Pete
Squidley replied to bmxndad's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Ross, I haven't personally heard of him, but if you find that he is competent and he actually goes in and replaces all thats needed for $300 and adjust the floats right...that wouldn't be a bad deal. -
I'm with Freebird, anything that is light enough to be sprayed out of a can isn't heavy enough to do the job. Stick with a good grease and you wont have issues

You are absolutely correct, especially if you live on any type of dirt road as that was what the issue was with Dale's bike -
clutch mystery solved by Squidley on Tx maint day
Squidley replied to massey130's topic in Watering Hole
Dale, I'm glad that we got your issues figured out, Eck is the one to thank as he wrote up a thread on it and that jarred my memory (thank god some of it's still there) Just for further clarification for the members. Dales issues was down under the left floorboard, the shifter is connected through 2 linkages and 2 pivot arms. One arm is in the rear of the system by the middle gear cover and the other is right under the floorboard. there is an arm assembly that pivots and takes the vertical linkage movement of the heel toe shifter, and switches it to horizontal leading back to the pivot arm @ the middle gear cover. The one under the floorboard was gummed up and we diasassembled the entire piece and cleaned it out....works everytime Kinda wish we would have took pics, but it was getting late in the day and I was wanting to make sure this was our culprit. It was great having you with us Dale, looking forward to the next time -
Gary, I know on many of my 1st gens once I set the cruise I have to push the button on the handlebar to accelerate to "pick up" the cable slack. Do you have all 3 of the lights come on @ the same time? and stay on? That wouldn't be a good thing and then I would start to check the levers for play as they will disengage the unit. Give a call and we can walk you through it over the phone....BTW nice bike

Wondered where you went to Craig, shame to hear of the troubles, but good that your still here. Sometimes the man smacks us upside the head to tell us to SLOW DOWN! I'm glad to hear your on the mend, definitely sorry about the folks. Sounds like a good season of cycle therapy is in order...be safe my friend.

Gary, It's basically just an ease of maintenance thing. They are in such a lousy spot that if you have issues with them it's way easier to lift the faux cover off and have it right there at your finger tips. Besides being under the battery and a bad spot to get to, any battery malfunction resulting in acid can make it onto and possibly into the TCI...and that really sucks!

One hell of a post to wake up to. Ben I am so sorry to hear of your accident, and the man was with you as all of you are alive. Going down on a bike in any capacity sucks, I know all about that. Take your time and heal up, start keeping records of everything now and pursue your restitution to the fullest extent of the law. The bike will be replaced, you my friend are still here to hopefully ride another day. Let us know if there is anything we can do to help you.

As much as it is a bummer for the businesses about the dragon being closed down, there are so many great riding road within 100 miles of the dragon nobody has to do without the twisties. I did the dragon once, with a trailer behind me on a 1st gen. It's a fun road, but there are too many aholes on it that have zero regard for anyone else. I have no want to go back to 129

passing Lamp Installs
Squidley replied to Rickster's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Rich, Just to elaborate a bit for any and everyone else, like Walt mentioned the relay will be powered up by an accy wire. That way when you turn the ignition swith off the relay is powered down and your driving lights go off. I have the driving lights on the '89 directly hooked up into a relay without a switch. When I turn the bike to the on postion the light are on, when I turn the key off they are off. I just take my continuity light and find a wire that is activated by the position of the ignition, thats the one I use to switch power the relay. -
Mike, Glad to hear you got it figured out I recommend all the 1st genners doing this as it makes it so much easier to swap out a TCI unit when it's right in front of your face

It's all good Keith, we'll keep having them and you'll be able to make one of them Once Lonna and I get into our new place in Conroe we'll get a BBQ going on there before too long

Open it up and check the fuses on the inside, perhaps there is one for that specific channel....you big dummy!
-
same thing here, I din't even put any sealant on it just tapped it back in. The metal is soft enough that it swedges itself back in for a seal. BTW you gonna be able to make it to Waller for Kbays maintenance day Keith?

Both front and rear speakers Chuck? There is a fade option on the G2. Only other thing I could think of is a loose connection behind the fairing or that it really is crapped out?

passing Lamp Installs
Squidley replied to Rickster's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Rick, I have done several driving light installs on the G2's. Do it right and run a wire under the tank, pull the tank also as you want all the room you can get to see where to run the wire. I personally have added an aux fuse block to all the ones I have done as it's easier to have another separate fuse system to install accy. Run a good gauge wire from the fuse/battery 10 or 12 gauge to the relay. Get a good switch, atleast 20 amps, dont use that piece of crap one that comes with the kit, it's too small and I just replaced Gunboats on his lights as the small wires couldn't handle the load of being fed directly from the battery. You will notice a lot brighter light if you do this and the lights wont be hooked into your ignition -
There are some special tools that need to be used to pull the tubes apart. I believe there is a write up here on the site. I changed Karls pretty easily, it's not a job for the faint of heart, but it's not brain surgery either. Look at the write up and see how you feel about doing it. That dealer....you can guess wher I'd be telling him to go, he's full of BS.
