98 RSTC clutch issues
Squidley replied to captpfd's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Thats exactly where I would start also, if it's the original fluid that would be 12 years old. What color is it through the site glass window on the reservoir? -
A New Problem . Bogging Down Above 45/50
Squidley replied to Cougar's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yep, there was 1 tamper proof screw in each carb, but I have the bit for them When I 1st got the bike I did the quick test with reaching into the throat and sliding the assembly back to see how fast it reacted coming fwd. It seemed fine when I did it, but since then I have put 10K on the bike, so it's time. -
We just bought some Mira Cool vests and have yet to give them a try. I have heard good things about them as well as the ones you purchased

It's ironic, after all the issues you had with yours I took the covers off the diaphragms on the '89 and lo and behold all 4 of them have holes in 'em. Looks like I am going to have to search out the post on just buying the rubbers to replace them, I dont want to spend $250 on all new parts as the sliders are still good. I knew the bike wasn't perfect, but figured the 100K on the odometer had a bit to do with the slower performance. It will be interesting to see how the mileage and performance pick up after I get it all swapped out. It doesn't run that bad as it is whodathunktit -

It's probably your best bet to go back to stock, I know you can sell the barons kit here on the site with no problems. If you do take it off and decide you want to sell it get ahold of Gunboat here in Houston as he might be wanting to lower his '99.

Christo, There are many that are leaving the Venture platform for the exact reason you are. I dont blame any of you at all, I have my Harley, albeit given to me as I couldn't afford one. Yamaha had better pull their head out of the arse as I know many other who have the income to purchase a new bike will leave the brand and look at something that is updated with the times. I can't really afford another new Venture, so I will bring the '99 I have back to life and ride the hell out of it. That is a beautiful H/D and I know you'll get many miles out of it. Dont think of leaving us as Leadwolf knows where you live and we'll hunt you down like a rabid critter!

Jeff, I dont know if this has been mentioned, but have you checked the air delivery system, meaning air filters and all the components that get air from the outside the bike to the inside of the motor? My only next guess is an electrical issue with the ignition module, are you running the stock Yamaha one or is there a Dyna 3000 in your bike....just throwing out some wild guesses here -

They haven't? I have heard of several failing, though not common. Denden who is a member here had his '01 rearend changed at Star Days a few years back if I'm not mistaken. I know other members have talked about the howling they have heard from the rearend too. I have pulled trailers on my Ventures, both 1st and 2nd gen for better than 30K miles. In '06 I did a 10K month long trip pulling a trailer behind my '99. Your rearend is a fluke and I wouldn't be super concerned with it, have them swap it out and continue pulling your trailer. Not to get on a rant, but I have noticed in the later model year RSV's that it seems like more items are failing. I have to think that Yamaha has been using cheaper vendors to make their parts. I have heard of plenty of fuel pumps failing, prematurely it seems like in the later model years. I rarely hear of them failing in the early RSV's

I have had a few of Jim Beams creations in my day, I like my margaritas though 1st time @ Olive Garden they asked me if I'd like a shot of Amaretto in it, I looked at her and said what? So I tried it and it really tasted good, been doing it ever since You do know that you have opened yourself up to hosting a MD in your area at some point

Has anyone tried these?
Squidley replied to Vanantwerp's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thats a bummer, I never felt that on the set I had, but thats why there are so many different tires around. Not everyone rides the same way, best of luck with your Dunlops -

Just for me memory bank to keep, were you not happy with the tires performance of just the fact that they didn't last long? I agree with the short life, as my rear only had about 6500 miles on it, but did the handling aspect of yours not feel good, just curious is all? -
The life of a road warrior! I do hope that you don't get all the forcasted rain, but enjoy your trip. BTW how has the bike been running? Have a safe trip and we'll see you when you get back down here to TEXAS!
