Buying a wrecked bike advice...
Squidley replied to elmicko's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Mick, I am currently working on redoing a '99 that has a lot of the plastic missing. It all depends upon how long you want to take to get it done. One thing I will say is that take into consideration all your time your going to spend repairing it, thats worth money in my book. I wouldn't buy any bike for any more than 50% of what fair market value is. It has to be a screaming deal as there WILL be issues come up at some point. -
Jim, Congrats on the scoot, I have has 3 '99's and I have loved everyone of them. The stock seat setup is more than likely what your looking for. There are 3 styles of stock seats, '99 & '00 were a bit stiffer, '01 to present were pillow tops and many folks like them a lot (me being 1 of them) and on the midnights from '02 to '06 were the stiffer model with chrome studs on them. You can pretty regularly pick up the early seats cheap and have Rick Butler (member here in Texas) perform his mod on them in creating a tailbone relief and adding some memory foam. The Pillow tops will cost you some bucks as most guys with the older models want to install the pillow tops on them so that drives up the price. Welcome to the club and we hope you enjoy it here

Jeff, I have always filled the rear shock on the sidestand with both wheels on the ground. I push the rearend up and down a few times and check it again For just you on the bike, 30# is about right

I hate to have to think that way, but the world is a very backwards thinking place from when I was younger and growing up. Glad that you got rid of it and good on you for being the samaritan that you are...I'm proud of you buddy

Good on Him! It's great to hear that there are still some young men that will take charge of their lives and step up to the military. You can let him know this sailor is proud of his committment, Semper Fi.

I think I would do that also, just drop it off at the cop shop and let it go at that.

I rode Lowells Kawasaki Voyager in Colorado in '07, I believe it was a '92 or so. It was a nice bike and had plenty of power. Low center of gravity and handled well, if you could find a good one I dont think you would go wrong. The engine on them was as bulletproof as the V4 in the Venture. You might want to PM Lowell Wild Hair 39 is his screen name and chat with him.

The truth has been told, this place is like crack.... No not that crack!

Gory Details 1st Venture was an '84 Blonde bought in '04 Then an '86 Brown Then a '99 Silver Then another '99 Silver Then an '86 Urish Black Then an '08 Charcoal Silver Then an '89 Blue and now a '99 in pieces I would guess that I have well over 100K on all the bikes combined.

If I'm not mistaken it's right around 6500 rpms, might even be a little less.

The 1st and pretty much only bolt on thing your going to do is install a Dyna 3000 Ignition module. You can advance the timing curve and bring the rev limiter up to 7500 rpms. The Vmax or FJR gears will help with off the line performance. They also help when fully loaded 2 up pulling a trailer. In a nut shell, buy a Dyna 3000
