Battery Cable upgrade
Squidley replied to Trader's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
If they will make custom sizes and all 3 cables for $25 I'd say go for it. There's no way I could or would sell them for that price. It might be an option to contact them and see if they would make a special "Kit" for the 1st gen that could be ordered directly through that website- 23 replies

Thats cool, no better way to crank folks in Ohio and Michigan up than tell them your not going to be able to play eachother.

I know how you feel Ted, I was fortunate enough to sell my '08 before I lost my job, but I have had the repo man wanting things of mine before. I wish you the best of luck in finding work, it is brutal out there with no end in sight.

Battery Cable upgrade
Squidley replied to Trader's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
JB, If you want to get out of it let me know, we can see what you have and work out buying you out. If the folks that complained about the cost of the cables are reading this. Make a set for yourself and see how much money is involved. Make sure you add what your time is worth, I make $20 hr at work, so my time is worth atleast that much and it's over an hour to make a set of cables.- 23 replies

This thread will help others in the future on what to look for as they are assembling one of these trailers. I have to say that for the money, this little trailer is a decent rig. I have built several trailers and for the price you can purchase these for you couldn't buy the materials to build one yourself, little own the time involved in assembling a home built trailer. Dave's issues was kinda a fluke in the fact of the spindles being wrong. Just have to measure the ones that come with the kit for anyone else buying one. I would have absolutely no reservation buying one of these trailers for the money. They do exactly what they claim and pull nicely for the most part. I'm just glad that we got it figured out and now Zipcode has a good axle under his trailer

This is just me talking, and there are folks that wont agree and thats fine. I dont know the specifics of damage to your battery, not a battery expert. If your battery is 3 years old, and your getting ready to do a big trip...change it out. $100 bill is nothing compared to being in the middle of nowhere and having a battery puke. The Venture both 1st and 2nd gens are very hard on batteries due to a barely adequate charging system. I have seen several ventures, including one that I owned, just have the battery puke. It was fine one day and the next it was dead. I since then have never kept a battery in any Venture I have owned for over 3 years. I dont need any surprizes 1000 miles from home

Folks, I am going to close this thread, I have seen this too many times in the past and we dont need to go into an open discussion. There is nothing worse for any website than airing dirty laundry. It will polarize people on both sides of the issue. The question was an honest one and now it's up to the 2 involved to take care of this matter privately.

Battery Cable upgrade
Squidley replied to Trader's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Steve, It's not that hard to do, if you have the right components. I used 4 gauge battery cable and 1/4" hole 4 gauge copper ends. I also used a product called a solder slug and soldered the cables into the ends. You would need 2 lengths of the 4 gauge cable 34" long and 1 pc 5" in length. Some folks have crimped the ends onto the cables, but I liked to solder them as I know they wouldn't loosen up. I'll see if I can come up with a better how to or see about getting some materials and make some up. I imagine as copper has gone through the roof the price will have gone up to make them. I used to make them for $40 with $5 shipping in the cont USA $7.50 to Canada. I imagine that I might be able to do it for $45 to $50 per set ready to install.- 23 replies
