  1. Ron, Wire it up to a relay and have the relay energize when you turn the ignition to the on position. I did that on a couple of my 1st gens, never bothered with an on off switch. I ran the driving lights day and night.
  2. JD, I want to mention that I am not a fan of the Odessy batteries due to 2 going bad in less than a year on Gunboats '99. I used to think they were a good battery, but 2 bad to the same guy is too much coincidence for me. I would definitely charge the battery fully and have it load tested to make sure it is in fact good.
  3. Nice work on both of your accounts
  4. Buddy, Dont waste your time or money, I put a new set of the Pirelli MT 66's on Gunboats 2 wheel '99 to sell it and I am not impressed. I actually dont have a lot of confidence in the tire as I have had it loose traction half a dozen times, when I dont believe it should have. I know that one of the members here that lives in the Houston area put the larger 880 Metz on the back of his '07 and it seemed to fit the driveshaft tube. Perhaps Ponch will chime in as he worked on that bike a bit installing a gauge set.
  5. All the best to you and your family Annie, I had my best friend do the same at 17. may you remember the good times and know that his soul suffers no more.
  6. I had an '84 that I ran driving lights on all the time. When it was hot in the summer and the fan would come on if I was at a stoplight, it would die as it was pulling too much current. The idle should be right at 1000 rpms, and if you are running driving lights a lower watt bulb might be in order.
  7. I actually find the opposite, the 1st gen has a narrower front tire and there isn't as much meat on the road. We came back last year from Thom's MD in Rockport TX and we were in some serious 30+ mph wind. Lonna and I were on an '89 and the rest were on G2's and they didn't get beat up nearly as bad as we did.
  8. I have never seen or heard of oil coming out of the upper schrader valve on the forks. How much oil came out?
  9. A different driving light holder.....
  10. It's raining sunshine here in Houston....oh, I'm sorry....I'll banish myself to the sunny garage
  11. Mike, I am also a member at HD Forums http://www.hdforums.com/ There is some good info over there, but it is NOTHING like our site. You'd better be thick skinned and used to dealing with Alphas. Depending upon what you'd like to know, there are several here as mentioned that are familiar with HD's. Scooter Bob is VERY knowledgeable with old school Shovelheads.
  12. It will be ok Eddie, just go out and look at the "Shiny One" and talk yourself down
  13. I'm going to play devils advocate here, so please dont get all uptight with my statements. Do you know the rider that was in front of you? If so I would approach them and ask for them to help with the repairs. Now that statement being made, yes there are circumstances that could lead to someone freezing in a corner like debris in the road. Group riding is not for everyone, some folks should not even be on bikes little own be in a group with them. As for the donation, I personally dont feel you need to make that, unless you were way too close and didn't have good stopping distance. It's hard to judge how people are going to react in situations without riding with them for many miles. I know how hard it can be to navigate hairpin curves. You have to be committed in the act and follow through with it. Unfortunately I dont have any of the extras that you need, but I'll keep my eyes open for you.
  14. Courtney is a great gal and I agree with Owl, those who never got to meet her have lost out. She does frequent facebook and I'd be willing to bet that she may peek in from time to time here
  15. You really shouldn't tease Forrest like that
  16. A Bridgeport Milling Machine and a paint booth
  17. ...is it LAVENDER
  18. I'll still blame you for something and it makes my heart happy knowing people still put you on the grill for getting me here
  19. My 1st Big fairing bike was a '78 CB750K and it was a lot of fun. That one you scored looks to be in sweet shape, have fun with it
  20. As long as BradT can get blamed for it....I HATE IT!!!
  21. Over 150 mph...
  22. JT, Give me a call and I'd be happy to come down and help you install a block. I have replaced every one on all the 1st gens I owned and several others.
  23. Glad to hear she wasn't too badly hurt, these things WILL jerk you back into reality immediately....all the best to you folks.
  24. All the best my friend....
  25. Brian, I am going to be very honest here and some folks aren't going to like what I'm about to say. I dont know how much money I would put into that RSV. Your problems do not make any sense on a newer bike with low miles. If they took the carbs apart and totally cleaned them and inspected them the problem should have been solved. If it was me, and your comfortable with the foot position of the GW....I would make that trade for the wing as long as it checked out and rode/ran good. The RSV sounds to me like there is more issues with it and you could really get hammered with it
