  1. You know you just fried his brain there Bobby Fried part of mine too
  2. I have done this method a few times, works like a charm
  3. Thanks for the update Paul, you folks take your time and heal up right. Let us know if we can help y'all with anything...all the best to you both!
  4. Mike, Sounds like you have a stuck float issue, if this happens take the handle end of a screwdriver and tap on the bowls of each carb. Many times this will reseat the needle and stop the flow. As far as setting the bike up for the winter, Seafoam can be used as a storage chemical for the gas, or Stabil. I would also do like Dan mentioned and run a can through your tank, it will help to clean anything out of the carbs. Another thing you might want to consider is to turn off your gas when you set the bike up for the winter. Run the carbs completely out of fuel and then you dont have to worry about gas being in them and setting up
  5. If you get the chance to meet up again with IH Truck Guy aka Driver Dan make sure he brings Shari, his wife with him. They will tell you stories that will have your guts hurting! Have fun you 2! MOOSE!!!
  6. Good to hear you folks are on the mend, if you 2 need anything please let us know....all the best in your recoveries
  7. According to the chart, (Bill Vinson emailed me the same one, thanks Bill) it states if the 3 AC volt readings aren't equal then the stator is bad. Thats what I am leaning towards, Thank you all again for your input on this
  8. We are going to try to head North into Michigan in September for a family reunion. Gonna try to take atleast a week off but 10 days if we can swing it. We'll be in Ontario at some point then and perhaps an inpromptu M&E could be arrainged We'll definitely hook up with you folks if we can get close enough
  9. Hey Kenny....you folks getting excited/scared yet!?
  10. Just to clarify a bit more, I did do a resistance test between the 3 leads with the bike not running. In every combination (I did 9) and it all came back at .9, this at 1st lead me to believe that it might be good. When I had it unplugged at the main harness connector (plug is in great shape with dilectric grease still in it) and checked it while running, the variations of AC Volts is what spoke to me in the thought that something wasn't right. I will also check the wiring at the Regulator, but I'm still leaning towards a toast stator. I had a good spare stator that I pulled out of my '89 and have given it to Monkey Boy to see if he can get it rewound while he is up in Michigan on vacation. Thanks for all the input guys, do appreciate it
  11. Just looking to hear from some of the electrical gurus out here. Monkey Boy's '90 is having a charging issue and I went to check it out today. I did an AC voltage test on the stator and wanted to make sure I did it correctly. Bike running, negative lead of multimeter directly on the negative battery post. Tested each leg of the 3 wires and came up with 4 VAC on 1, 6.1 VAC on the 2nd and 11 VAC on the 3rd. In my head this is a bad stator that needs to be replaced, I'm just wanting to confirm this with more educated electrical brains. The battery was fully charged and installed right before I did the test....give me your opinions.
  12. Paul's still as ugly as ever! You folks have been getting a lot of visitors here lately there Thomas!
  13. Ha Ha ha Ha ha ha ha
  14. Check the other 2 vacuum lines on the intake manifold of #2 and #3 cylinders. These go to the AIS system and if they are disconnected or have leaks in them you will get popping
  15. The temptation is killing me right now
  16. I'll be swapping out my seals and springs to progressives on the front of my '86 this weekend in Bogalusa LA. I'll try to get some pics of it, but I know there is a write up in the 1st gen tech library on swapping to progressive front springs. If your seals aren't leaking you dont need to change them.
  17. Dave, Yes it can, put it on a 2X4 under the center stand, put a jack stand under the front of the engine with the rear tire touching the ground. Pull the front wheel off and you will have enough room to slide the forks out of the triple trees. I'm going to be doing this and fork seals in Bogalusa at Kbrans MD, I'll try to get some picks of the process.
  18. The "Honeycomb" is part of the catalytic converter and really doesn't need to be removed. As far as repacking the HD mufflers, I dont think there is anyway to do that without destroying the muffler. I have ran several sets of the HD mufflers on various RSV's and always drilled the center baffle plates out with the 1 1/4" holesaw. It gave them a throaty sound when opening the throttle up but reasonable while at cruising speed. For the price you can get them for, if and when they get too loud, get another set

Allan and Patty are great folks and make great products! We appreciate them being here for us
  20. Thank you for taking that bull by the horns Russell
  21. All the best to both of them, hate to hear of any of our members going through this. Also good to hear that they are doing better
  22. 1st thing I would do is check the tightness of the steering head bearings and see if that takes care of it. Make sure all your wheel connecting hardware is tightened properly also
  23. Glad to hear it wasn't worse Herb, now a Camaro....your going to get in trouble I have a feeling
  24. Dave, Good to have you here, your in the right spot for info. 1 person right off the bat to contact on the Vmax goodies your planning is Dingy in Ohio. He has Vmaxxed his MKI 1st gen ('83 to '85 is considered this with it's 1200 motor) The front end should you want to go with R1 calipers would need to be upgraded to the MKII forks ('86 to '93) to be able to use those calipers. If you have questions just ask, you have a good base of folks in your area of Ontario that are a wealth of knowledge.
  25. Hey Charlie....shut up and gracefully accept the money! If he didn't want to give you that much he wouldn't have. I have learned a few things in these years, Recieving gracefully and giving freely makes both parties feel good...
