  1. Update... Not a whole lot more to add right now, but this is what Monkey Boy was informed of. One of David's teeth is cracked so they are going to remove it today. It is very possible that his right eye will be non functioning, dont know for sure on this. He is having delayed reaction to stimuli but is still reacting which is a good thing. They are going to go ahead and install the tube in his brain as they want to be able to further monitor the pressure inside. He is somewhat stable right now, but still in critical condition. They are also doing CT scans hourly or there abouts to monitor whats going on in his brain. I will probably not head down to the hospital today as there is nothing I can do and I dont want Kathy feeling overwhelmed again. She is in contact with us and as thing occur will update us. Thank you all again for your support.....
  2. As much as this gesture touches me personally, I am with Condors comment with waiting. I dont want anyone to take this wrong, but these types of things have come up before. David is insured and has disability through his work (I work with him) I know that Freebird has curtailed money collections for well intended hardships like this. I am going to lock out this thread until we as moderators talk about it. Please understand that nobody is looked badly upon for wanting to help. I absolutely appreciate your gesture but lets see how everything plays out 1st.... This is Freebird adding to Brad's post. He is 100% correct. Let's wait and see if there is a real need. Let me assure you that if Ponch needs our help, I will be among the first to donate but we should wait to see if it is necessary. I know that we all want to help and do whatever we can but financial assistance is not always needed. If we find out that it is, then you can bet that we will be asking for your help.
  3. Not a lot more right now, but it warms my heart that my family here has come together for one of it's own. We are nowhere's near out of the woods, David is still in critical condition. We still do not know how the accident occurred, we may never know as David, God willing, comes through this might not remember. Monkey Boy...God love him, has been feeding us info as much as he could. They still have David under pretty heavy sedation so he doesn't fuss. There are more injuries, as I understand it, his top plate of his mouth is broken, as well as some of his teeth, he has a broken jaw. It appears that when he came off the bike his chin must have impacted 1st and very hard. There might be some fractures in his hand. Let me also say that I do not have 1st hand information on any of this, I have not seen David, so please take all this with a grain of salt until I can personally see and understand what is going on. Thank you all again so very much for thinking of David and his family. This is a very hard time for them and the entire Houston crew as we are all pretty tight with David and Kathy. I will be heading back down to the hospital tomorrow and will keep everyone here informed as I can...Thanks again
  4. Ok here some more info Monkey Boy is still at the hospital, Kathy was under a lot of stress and didn't want so many people around as it made her very uncomfortable, we obliged and left the hospital. David is still in serious condition, but a bit of good news is that they didn't have to install the tube in his brain as the swelling is appearing to be going down. Bythe hour he is more consious and Kathy and Shannon (their Daughter) have been in to see him. Monkey Boy will be able to see him soon and is keeping me updated as soon as he hears anything. Please continue to pray for Kathy, she is very scared and under enormous stress right now. I will go back down to the hospital tomorrow and hopefully be able to see him. As I know more so will you, thank you all again for your outpouring of support, we really appreciate it.
  5. Here's what we have so far... David does have a brain injury, he was wearing his helmet, but still suffered trauma. He is sedated right now so he can't fuss, he was responding to stimulus when they pinched his arm so thats a good thing. There is some bleeding in his brain and they are installing a tube to help relieve some of the pressure. There is also an eye injury, to what extent I dont know. He has some road rash on his right arm. The initial word is he'll be here for probably a months time, 2 weeks atleast in ICU. This is going to be a long haul, so please keep him and his family in your thoughts. As always Thank You all for your support, Kathy is very appreciative for it. I will keep you all updated as soon as I have new info.
  6. Ok Folks, I really dont have anything to add as we just got into the ICU, he's alive, but still badly hurt and in critical condition. As soon as I can see him or get more details I will pass it on, he's one of my best friends....please keep him and Kathy in your prayers....
  7. Have a great trip Evan and be careful
  8. I agree with the sync, the carb will do funny things if they aren't done right. Give this thread a day or 2 and I'm sure there will be a member close by that would hook up with you to do a sync on your bike.
  9. Reno, There are only 3 guys in NC with names registered as Jim Jim Parks is Sylvester and he has an '02 RSV Jim Anderson is Benzbarn and he owns a '99 RSV James Furmage is BigSexxy and he owns a '99 RSV I dont know if this will help you out or not, but those are the only 3 in NC with Jim as a name.
  10. All the best to Momma Dan, I do hope they can find the issue and take care of it.
  11. With any Venture you can't tell, "Sudden Death Syndrome" happens all too often on Venture batteries no matter what brand. I have had it happen on 2 year old batteries, decent ones too. If you got 5 years out of that Oddessy your doing good, but I would think about changing it out if you have a big trip planned
  12. That ain't no lie on every maintenance job with VRO members
  13. Well....if you want to take the 242 mile ride to Waller TX this Saturday we'll install it for FREE!
  14. Many like to hear a lope in the engine as it sounds cool, but the Venture recommended idle speed is 950 to 1100 rpms
  15. John, The RSTD is a great machine and the stature is a bit shorter like you have noticed. Dont take this wrong, but whats your age and are you prone to issues with your knees? The reason I ask this is that they are a heavy bike, they take a little getting used to. If your in relatively good shape and have a decent sence of balance it shouldn't be an issue. I am caretaker of one of our members '06 TD while he's doing some work up in Joplin Missouri as he wanted it to be ridden...I was happy to oblige him. I have had 8 Ventures 4 1st gens and 4 RSV's, they take a little getting used to as the RSV is a bit top heavy, but there is a lot of electronics up in the fairing and for that fact the inner and outer fairing. I really enjoy this TD I am riding and it's easier for me to play with than my RSV's. You will probably be ok with it, just have to remember a few things like where you park and such...
  16. I hate to say this on this public forum, but you actually made sence with that statement...but I'm extremely confident it was a one time only thing
  17. With a traditional over the carbs tank you shouldn't run into any issues as the weight of the fuel will be sufficient to push it into the bowls. Only thing that might be a kicker is when the tank is very low and doesn't have enough head weight to push the fuel with decent force. That being said you could always use a tank that has a vacuum pump on the petcock
  18. You mean that EEGIT actually did something right!
  19. Outstanding!! Good on her for making the commitment to become a Marine. have a great time with her and from a grateful Sailor, Thank her for me on her decision to help protect our nation.....Semper Fi!
  20. Upwards of 20 give or take
  21. Good to be able to talk with you this morning my friend, it eased my mind more than you know. I'm glad it's you telling the story, I remember how it was when folks called us on ours....all the best to you and safe journey back home.
  22. 29 is what we use as Ventureriders for the CB channel, and I have had Venturerider stickers made that I have sold for years. I need to get that back going again and put them up in the classifieds
  23. We had a simliar happening in Ft. Collins Co. about 5 years ago. Guy couldn't get the steering head lock to disengage on the Electra Glide he rented. I ended up taking my pocket knife and sliding the lock pin back up into the cylider so they could ride it. It was going to be an all day tow fix and whatnot from the HD dealer. We put some electrical tape over it to keep it from sliding down again and he went off to his next stop on his vacation where they would replace the assembly. It's all about being in the wind and not what your riding, a brotherhood....
  24. If you in fact want a cover let me know as I have a spare one.
  25. Mike, If you have the hubs off your trailer take them into a trailer supply house or good autoparts store like Carquest and have them measure the ID of the hub to get the right dimention.
