I am thinking about that, after looking at what all has to be done to replace it....whew. My wifes' cousin has a muffler shop here in town, and he is verrry good. I was thinking about having him cut away the bad stuff, and then welding on a new piece of pipe. It looks like it's only about 6 inches long anyway.

Well, my right side muffler has broken off. If someone has the "H" pipe for a '83 Venture, I'd be happy to buy it. I can't ride 'til I fix it. http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/0705091048a.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/0705091048b.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/0705091049a.jpg Please help.

It's a shot in the dark, but... On the wheel motor (#18 in the first drawing), there is a woodruff key. If it was sheared, the axle could be slipping. Hey, it's worth checking out.

Here is our local drunk story for the weekend. Very sad. http://www.henrycountian.com/main.asp?SectionID=2&SubSectionID=2&ArticleID=1460 and another involving a motorcycle... http://www.henrycountian.com/main.asp?SectionID=1&SubSectionID=17&ArticleID=1466

simple oil question
Monty replied to KarlS's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
My problem with synthetics is that they "bond" to all metal parts better.(that's what they advertise anyway). Some even say that the oil stays attached to all moving parts, so that the parts will still be lubed on startup, reducing wear. Some have even drained all of the oil out of an engine, and ran it for several minutes with no oil in it, to show how well it bonds to metal. My problem is this... That means the oil also "bonds" to all of the metal shavings in your engine, and keeps them attached to your metal parts, instead of the bottom of your pan. This also means that, upon draining the oil, the shavings stay up in the engine with the "bonding" oil, instead of being able to be drained out. Take it for what it's worth. That is just my own personal opinion, and it's why I don't use synthetics. Both of my Ford trucks have almost 300k on them, and I only use regular 10W40. Neither one uses oil yet, either. -
A few more things to check. I haven't looked at one of these in a few years, so bear with me. Is the belt tight on that side? It could be slipping. Is the pulley turning the same speed as the shaft? Could be a sheared pin. Each side has a release lever, to allow it to freewheel. Make sure the lever is where it's supposed to be. Could be trash in that sides' tank or line, not allowing enough fluid to the pump.

I used to be a Snapper Technician, a few years back. I think you have air in it. pull the cap off the tank, start it, and work the lever back and forth slowly several times. Does it whine excessively? Are there an excess amount of air bubbles in the reservoir for that side? Compare the two.

These are from the 1983-85 manual, but I am assumong the starting circuit would be the same. http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/start1.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/start2.jpg

Apparently, you have current to the fuel pump, or else you couldn't have rode it. I would check the starter circuit.

simple oil question
Monty replied to KarlS's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Same here. I'm not a big fan of synthetics. I changed over to Rotella 15w40 Dino oil, and my Venture shifts smoother and seems to run quieter. -
I thought carriers were banned from Australia? They were when I was in, because of some trouble I heard. I have been on the Cowpens. She was being built right next to mine. CG63 I believe.

Here is a much better built jack, with a wider stance. I used one to change the tires on my 1st gen. http://www.pitbullmotorcyclelifts.com

Nope, it works just fine.

Look at Wallyworld and Dollar General for a product called "Awesome". It's cheap, non-toxic and works great. I have used it for years. Just spray it on, let it sit a few minutes, and hose it off. Edit: I don't know if you have those stores in Canada...do you?

Good riddance MJ. Sorry to hear about Farrah.

Beware using your debit card at the gas pump
Monty replied to Venturous Randy's topic in Watering Hole
I have never had an issue with paying at the pump. I use a Visa check card, and I just use it. I don't have to select credit or debit at the pump, so it must use it just as a credit card. Now, if I go inside, then they will ask if it's credit or debit. -
I think he must've been abducted by aliens.....and he may be hooked on that anal probe.
