Remember, you get a hotter spark and much better starting if you DO NOT have both resistor caps AND resistor plugs. Since I removed the resistors from my caps, and replaced them with short pieces of #8 copper wire, the bike starts 100% better. I never give any throttle when starting, unless it's flooded. You may be flooded, and if you want to test whether or not you are, then open the throttle completely, and crank it until it starts. This allows more air to enter, and usually recovers from the flooded condition.

I used to ride in one of those when I was a little boy. My Dad drove one for a rock quarry in Kentucky, when I was younger. He used to take me down in the mines...that was scary at the time.

I think they might be just gonna sync up your carbs to be sure. Good luck!!

I have lived in both areas, and I would think you'd have to worry about the rust in Schaumburg more, unless you park it between now and May.

Ahh, the ol' "smoke wrench". One of my favorite tools.

Solenoid Question
Monty replied to CrazyHorse's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Any 12 volt solenoid should work. Space is the main concern. You could check out a lawn mower shop, and they may have a smaller one you could use. -
Like I said, I haven't been able to ride for a month between bad weather, and my TCI going out on me. Today, we went riding some good twisty roads with my oldest son and his girlfriend. He rides my old bike, that I sold him last March. I may be buying it back from him after he takes off to Basic Training next month. We rode some good twisties, then took the ferry across the lake, then rode the twisties again. We then ended up at our favorite local hangout, for some good bbq and 'liquid refreshment". Great times. I'm soooo glad to be riding again. Click on the pic... http://s74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/th_IMG_0063.jpg

Need help dealing with a fuel leak
Monty replied to bobcat's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Try removing the screw from the bowl, and letting it drain...with the engine off. Then, spray carb cleaner up in the hole that the screw came out of. You seem to have either a float sticking, or a piece of trash in the needle/seat area. Maybe this procedure will clean out the trash, and the problem will go away. Good luck! -
I use one similar to this. (I know, I'm cheap) I got it at Wallyworld, and it works great for shocks and forks. I don't lose air when I pull it off, either. I am very happy for you, and very sorry you lost such a good friend. I love those old Electra Glides. My Dad had one that was a '69, I think. Everyone else has already said everything I could have come up with, so just enjoy your new ride, and keep those memories alive. He would have wanted you to have it, I'm sure.

Excellent job by those little ladies. Choked me up for sure.

I hope I never pass one, but if I do I think I will be rich 'cause I have drank so much Goldschlager that they have to be made of gold by now...lol.

:TEAL: Lots of great folks here!

Cold and snow I can deal with. When the ice comes, I am done. We don't use salt here, so that's not an issue.

Home Made GPS Mount!
Monty replied to skydoc_17's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I will let you know soon. Right now, I am concentrating on getting the bike back on the road. As soon as I get that ironed out, I'll be in touch. -
I would rather put the 1st gen engine into a 2nd gen. Then it would be fast!!

Home Made GPS Mount!

I am interested in the GPS mount. Could you make one that would just screw into the existing mirror hole? -
I thought the cash for clunkers vehicles were supposed to be crushed as part of the deal?
