OK...What do I need to buy?
Monty replied to elmicko's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Here ya go. Looks like less than $20. http://www.partshark.com/fiche_section_detail.asp If it turns out to be the speedo itself, I have one from an '83. -
I like it! Sorry we didn't make it over there yesterday. It has been so nice the last two days, we have been riding the wheels off of this thing...lol For Don... Hurry up and heal that arm.

new bike small problems
Monty replied to curtis's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Where at in Tennessee? Yours is an '88, right? It helps if we know which year it is. My '83 had a jumper where the kickstand switch was. Must have gone bad. If it sat for 3 years, the fluid may have gummed up in the lines. You might try disconnecting the lines and blowing air thru them. On the older Ventures, the rear brake pedal applies the left front brake, as well as the rear. The front brake lever applies the right front brake. -
That sure looks like a Dodge 2wd pulling out that Chebbie 4X4.:rotfl:

That was two years before I started riding it....legally.

Ouch! I hope they get it set right, and she can start her healing. I feel for her.

I used two small screwdrivers to get them off. Don't insert them too far, as that's how I broke the glass. It's kinda like taking a tire off of a rim with prybars. KInda tricky getting them back on too. I just used the screwdrivers to press them back down after I got them back on the gauges. They don't look as good now, on the backside, but you can't see them anyway. I used the blue painters masking tape to cover everything on the gauge behind the needle, and I used a gloss black paint. You need to let them dry for a day, and make sure the paint doesn't cause the needle to stick to the little stop pin. It would be REALLY BAD if you got them all back together, and then the needle wouldn't move, because it was stuck to the pin.

Here's hoping for a speedy recovery. You'll be riding before you know it.

That is a GPS mount. I removed it, as I have a different GPS, and now it's in a different location.

I lost a nut this morning too....I thought that was a good thing.

But isn't there a big empty space between the end of the bar, and your stilettos? Looks like the bars are shorter than the grips, to accomodate the bar end weights.

The bikes here have been like cockroaches at night....they're coming out from everywhere...lol We do have a lot of bikes here, though. I saw at least 50 today.

I am VERY lucky to be alive. Wish I had it back.

OK...don't laugh... This was me at 14. This was my 1st bike, when I turned 16. I was riding it before then though. I grew up racing motocross, and my stepdad used to let me drive his big bikes. When I turned 16, he gave this Yamaha XS Eleven Special to me. I NEVER got beat on this bike...lol I think it was an '81. I said don't laugh... http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/XSEleven.jpg

I saw two today. One was a Midnight, and he was riding with a blue Harley trike in Paris, Tn. The other was sorta grey, with a black Ultra Classic with him. They were riding in Land Between the Lakes. Anyone here?

I am going to install a set of Kuryakyn 6261 flame ISO grips. I have the info from here http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=28613 that shows how to trim the grips to fit the weights, but what do I need to do as far as spacers and such? If I open up the ends of the grips, is that all that is needed? Do I still need longer bolts? anything for the throttle?

LOL, yep, but I ain't painting your needles black. That was a pain.

It keeps the glare off of the windshield. It was on there when I bought the scoot, and I just left it. It just sits on there...not attached.

I finally installed my gauge set from Ponch. The actual install went pretty smooth, and took me about 5 hours. My hat is off to Ponch for his great work on this kit. First, I didn't want my needles to be orange, so I decided to disassemble the gauges and paint the needles black. This turned out to be a hassle, but I prevailed. Upon taking them apart, I broke one of the glasses. http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/IMG_3819.jpg You can't buy the glass by itself, nor did I want to purchase another set of gauges, so I went to Lowe's and bought a small sheet of glass, and a glass cutter. It wasn't easy to do, but I did it, and you can't tell the difference. Here are the gauges after I painted them. http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/IMG_3821.jpg Here are some pics from the install. I won't go into all of the details, as several writeups have already been posted here. Yes, cutting the dash has a pretty large pucker factor...lol. http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/IMG_3822.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/IMG_3824.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/IMG_3825.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/IMG_3827.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/IMG_3828.jpg http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/IMG_3830.jpg So far, I have no leaks, and everything is working great! Thanks again to Ponch, for making it easier. I made one additional mod that I really had to think about, before cutting another hole, but I went ahead and did it... http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/IMG_3831.jpg

I tend to wear out my front brakes first, as I use that brake the most. My brakes usually last me a while, because I use the engine to do most of my braking. If you do more city(stop n go) driving, then they will wear out much quicker.

Cleaning all that dust/dirt from under the seat/fairings etc.
Monty replied to Midnight's topic in General Tech Talk
I use soap and water, rinse, and use compressed air to dry real well afterward. Just be choosy as to where you direct your water stream. To be safe, unhook battery first. -
I have one like this one on mine. http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i274/13thAFMonterey/desertstorm.jpg
