Well, I fired up my nitro car for the first time today. It has a .28 engine. Nitro is kind of a pain. Electrics are so much easier. I started it up and am in the break-in process. This thing is a screamer. Definitely converting my big plane to electric.

You have gas engines, and you have nitro engines. What is Nitro? So, you ask, what's the deal with "nitro"? Nitro, is short for nitro-methane. This mixture of methanol, nitro-methane and lubricants is the fuel and lubricant for "glow-fuel" engines commonly found in model airplanes, helicopters and boats and more recently, radio control cars. The incredible power, combined with the ear-piercing mini-roar they put out has drawn and ever-increasing crowd to jump into this hobby like no other in recent memory.

Here's what I have... I have 2 ae .15 Team associated engines. Made by Thunder Tiger, I think. I have 1 Traxxas TRX .15 engine I have 1 SMT .15 engine. 2 of them have flywheels and clutches on them. 1 has a pull starter. After doing some research, I think these are all nitro car engines. Not sure if they will work for a plane or not. Maybe one of you guys who knows more about nitro could chime in on that. Like I said, I know nothing about them, only that they seem to have good compression.

If it is a nitro engine, I have like 4 of them that I know nothing about, and am never going to use. I know they have good compression. If you need one, just ask.

This seems like a pretty good deal for the heli beginner... http://www.bananahobby.com/2153.html

I'll admit, this is a cheap plane. But...it will do what I need it to do, as a beginner. You can hardly beat the package. Yes, you could just swap out your radio and receiver, if you want to. Those are the two proprietary components. Everything else will work just fine.
  7. If you don't like it, they stay off of it. Several of us enjoy it, for what it is. I just do the minimum, and it does what I need it to do.

Well, for the price, I think the one I bought is going to be a good trainer. I haven't done my maiden flight yet, but on the bench, it has LOTS of power. It came with everything, and it's 4 channel. http://www.bananahobby.com/1651.html

Way too expensive. Have to supply your own radio, receiver AND battery. I will post up the one trainer that is the most recommended for beginners. Stay tuned...
  11. Sorry, I was thinking you said (2) 2gb sticks. My bad...id10t error here also.
  12. Ok, Crucial says you can use (2) 2gb sticks. http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=108af860a5ca7304&cpe=us_nextag&zmap=ct1278833&zmac=43&zmas=1&zmam=13262493 Now, they DON'T always go in next to each other. You should have two different colors. 2 slots are usually one color, and 2 slots of another color. Make sure they are in the same colored slots, and make SURE you are using slot 1.
  13. Looks like you have to have 4 (1gb) memory sticks. I think each slot only supports 1gb. http://www.memorystock.com/memory/DellDimensionE510.html
  14. Read this... http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim5150/en/sm/parts1.htm#wp1364800
  15. Are you sure you bought the right type of ram. There are many types. How many slots do you have? Try putting just one in the 1st slot, and see if it works. Need more info.
  16. See post #28 in this thread, for the basic cooler rack I made for my Escapade when I had it. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=50348&highlight=cooler+rack&page=2 I bought all of the materials at Lowe's. Doesn't look like much, but it worked great.
  17. I use it at Lowe's quite often. I do have a VA ID card. I am a disabled vet, but I think you can get one, disabled or not, if you sign up at the VA hospital. You don't have to be disabled to use the VA hospital. They just bill your insurance like any other hospital, if you're not service connected.

I have a lever to make it ascend, and another lever that makes it either turn left or right, or makes it go in forward or reverse. It works pretty good, although the tail rotor is used for the fwd/rev....not like a real one.. Still fun...but my dog won't come near me...lol.

To get back on topic... I went and bought my 1st heli today, at Wal-mart. It was only $25, and I've already had a ball flying it around the house. Hey...you gotta learn somewhere, right?

I just looked up the smaller one. It sells for $199. http://www.historicaviation.com/product_info.po?ID=13369&product=Models+and+Kits&category=flying&subcategory=277

I have 4 different engines for the big one. They all have good compression too. I won't be flying the big one for a while anyway. I need to cut my teeth on the smaller electrics first.

I bought both of these today for $175. The larger one is a scratch built, made out of balsa wood. It came with the futaba 7 channel receiver, all the servos, 4 nitro engines, 3 props, and several other misc. parts. The smaller one is a RTF trainer. Both came with FM radios. Did I get a good deal?
  23. Wal-Mart used to carry a cheap Saitek ST290 for about $20. I don't know if they still do or not. I used it for quite a while until I bought a good setup. It worked decent enough.
  24. They make joysticks for the PS3. Saitek makes one, I know. I used my Saitek X52, but I had an Eagle Eye adapter that let me use mouse, keyboard & joystick with the PS3. I can't stand using controllers. The PC version of IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946 is waaay better. It only costs like $10 now, and doesn't take a super PC to run it.
