I just bought a set of Elite 3s from them last week. I installed them last Friday, and have about 500 miles on them. I like them so far.

I found this from Gearhead, but no pics... "So I did the brush-plate-ground-wire mod. It's pretty much how I envisioned it, as I described above. Here are a few specifics. There is plenty of room in the end cap. Both brushes fit in one "hemisphere" (misused, but the best I can think of), so the other is just free space between the commutator and the cap. My ground wire is around 2" long, 12 ga, ring terminals soldered each end. One end is under the existing screw that secures the ground brush lead (the brush that is not isolated from the plate). The wire then goes maybe 120 degrees around thru the empty space to a screw I put in the end cap. I drilled and tapped for 6-32 and installed with Loctite a 1/2" long screw from the outside. The ring terminal goes on the protruding end inside, with a lock washer and nut, also with Loctite. I made the wire go as far around the circumference as possible to allow some extra wire length while installing the wire in the cap and the cap onto the starter. I did notice that the 3 bent ground tabs weren't bent up very far for firm contact, and the mating surfaces were pitted. I cleaned them up and bent them more for better grounding that way as well. This is the most promising opportunity for improvement I've seen so far, thanks Squeeze! I'm also resoldering the ends of the batt cables and supplementing my ground wires."

84 Starting Problem
Monty replied to uthpda's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Please don't hit the starter with a hammer. I know it will make it start sometimes, but you should only do that if you're stuck sitting beside the road, and just have to get it going. Smacking the starter with a hammer can break the magnets inside, and you don't wanna do that. It doesn't take that hard of a whack to break them either...they are brittle. -
New 85 VR owner needs help

Here is one thing that will make the rear brake drag... If someone has had the rear wheel off, there is a thin spacer on the right side. This spacer goes between the rear caliper bracket and the swingarm...NOT between the caliper bracket and the wheel (this will hold the caliper at a small angle to the rotor, and make the brake drag, getting the rotor very hot). Don't ask how I know this. -
I sure hope he doesn't stop, or we may hit him. Can't see a thing.

I use the two-wrench thing alot too. I also have short and long-handled ratchets, some with swivel heads. Putting a pipe on a ratchet is not real good for it. A breaker bar with a pipe on it is much better.

I got them and installed them today. The bag had EBC part nos on it (FA 88). Seem to be good quality. They are semi-metallic organic pads. The only difference with them is that they are a continuous pad, without the relief down the middle. I'm happy with my purchase so far. $38 bucks for 3 sets....oh yes.

Pretty cool, but just another huge obstacle for Emergency Responders to overcome when trying to gain access to people after an accident. Neat looking, though.

Just ordered mine. Hope they are good.

It shouldn't take off as long as the clutch is in...if it's adjusted correctly.

I put on a set of E3s Friday, and put about 300 miles on them this weekend. After about 50 miles, I was checking them out, and noticed the rubber felt almost like a drag slick, they were so soft. They rode great, and it looks like I still have all of the little "tits" on them(sorry, that's what I've always called them). So, it seems like they are sticky, but are still going to last a while.

Does it only have two wires? You can use a multimeter, and set it on "ohms". Touch the leads together first(without touching the metal leads with your hands), and make sure you get continuity(0 ohms). That verifies the meter is working and that the leads are good. Now, attach a lead to each wire. Meter should say OL or infinity, or something like that. Now, push the button with the leads attached, and the meter should read the same as when you shorted the leads together before(0 ohms). I don't have a schematic for your model to look at, but it should just be a simple two wires. That's how it is in the '83-'85 manual.

I would be interested in the stator if it works.

I ran 4 tanks thru my bike, each with a half can of SeaFoam in it. It's good stuff. Are any plugs fouled? -
2000 RSV started to backfire when deccelerating

Sounds like it is leaning out for one reason or another. Any exhaust leaks up close to the engine? -
Is it just me, or did his bike seem to be awful thin? At the beginning, when he squeezed that car, it sounded like he hit it. There were several spots where he squeezed through, that just looked impossible, even on a narrower dirtbike. If that video is even real, he is a very talented sportbike handler, but he has no brains. He shouldn't be allowed to ride at all. Look at the disrespect he showed for the other riders as well. I'm surprised he didn't wreck some of them with those stunts. I would've opened a door on him too.

Carbs gummed up after only sitting since August? Mine sat over 3 years, and it runs fine after a few cans of Sea Foam. He doesn't want you to start it, because then you'd find out about the 2nd gear problem. He says it shifts fine thru all 5 gears. It is fast approaching 50k miles, which is where the 2nd gear issue usually shows up. Wonder why he shows no pics of the rest of the bike?

Oil level warning light.
Monty replied to Marvin81's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I would start here. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=33328 You could have a loose connection, or broken solder joint.(let's hope). -

Fishing? I already live on the best fishing lake in the states...lol Ky Lake....excellent crappie fishing...and they are biting right now. I do miss those German Brown Trout from up that way, though. I used to stand at the Con Ed discharge in Waukegan, Il and catch those Trout. Lotsa fun.
