With my track record with group...at least good for a laugh! You'd have a hard time proving it in court that I was the first and that I convinced anyone to change from a 150 to a 130 (even I think I was likely one of the first to change to a 130). Between this site, and at least three other places there's enough advice or lack of advice out there that it would be hard to prove one person started the whole thing.... Curt

Well at least you guys that don't like it haven't sued me (yet)...I was one of the first, if not the first, to run a 130 tire on the front of the RSV...all the way back in 2000. But I didn't put mine on because somebody else said it was better...my first one actually got on there because of an error by the accessories store/tire shop...ordered the "wrong" tire and installed it and didn't tell me. Thought the bike felt different, checked, and lo & behold a 130 instead of 150 tire....but I liked the way the bike felt and I've been putting 130s on since then, both on the 99 and on the 06. Trick though to some of what you guys are complaining about is not the tire...it's the steering head (needing a adjustment), having some air in the front forks, and proper pressures in BOTH front and rear tire. If you'd like to file a suit though, Freebird can give you my full name and address . Curt

Don, I WOULD buy dinner...and we HAVE met already, you just don't remember. Think Arkansas, 2001. Curt

Whew...you scared me...I thought you got Wisconsin

Don, Still holds true today in most states...but it's probably cheaper for you to buy a "cheaper" dependable used car for your son and ensure it, than it is to put him on your policy for your cars. I went through this with both of our daughters and Cathy and I decided if we were going to spend the kind of money the insurance companies wanted, we might as well put into a car for each of the girls and get them started on taking care of something. We have some friends both here in WI and in AR who doing the exactly the same thing today (ours were 10+ years ago) and the difference in cost of adding their child to their insurance and what it would cost to insure a car specifically for their child paid for the cars. Normally I wouldn't post Venture (1st & 2d Gen) sightings, but you would have thought there was a Venture rally in northeast WI this past weekend. Saturday while riding from Suamico down to Appleton, we first passed a MM RSV on Cty B just before we got on 41. I've seen this guy before over the last couple of years, but never stopped...pretty sure he lives close by. Then on 41 just south of DePere passed a Midnight headed north on 41, and shortly thereafter had a blue 1st Gen pass us headed south on 41. Had to make a quick stop at the Fox Valley Mall, and as we're pulling out pass another Midnight on a side street just off College. A little later in the afternoon, while in the cage with a daughter and grandsons, we see another Midnight on Calumet in Darboy. Once on 55 south we see two 1st Gens riding together, one brown and tan, the other blue. Later we're stopped at a gas station in Stockbridge and a 99 RSV pulls to get gas...a little further south on 55 see a 1st Gen and another 99 parked outside a local watering hole. Then headed home later that evening (back on the bike) we pass a red RSV on Calumet just before we get on 441. Yesterday we head up to Door County and see a MM on 57 headed toward Green Bay, a Midnight in Sturgeon Bay, a red RSV in Ephaim, and I lost count of the 1st Gens. So if we passed someone here... Curt

The first poster said let's talk about politics...another poster said no let's not talk politics...then someone said let's talk about the economy...the next poster said, no that's still politics...so the next guy said let's talk about married life...but the guy who followed him said that REALLY is politics...moving on the next guy said let's talk about work...but his friend said that was like politics too...hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm:starz:. Sorry, I don't like politics (or potlickers) either...ruins too many friendships...hmmm, Where o' where I have I had that before....but I had to take a break from the politics at work. Curt ...so do I get a BE response, or chuckle from the pond keeper?

Just in case, and especially if the threads on the drain plug look okay, replace the crush washer (or add one if none there). Leak could be as simple as a bad crush washer .. at least worth a look and try. Curt

I feel bad the weather hasn't cooperated for your trip...that area has so much to offer and enjoy. Like mentioned earlier, I grew up in Petoskey and like most teens/young adults I took it for granted then...haven't lived there for now over 33 years, but today I savior every visit back home.

Cathy and I went down (from Lowell) Thursday and Friday. Didn't stop on Dickson Street on Thursday, but did spend a couple of hours at the "track" facility, getting in a demo ride on the Victory Vision and a little T-Shirt shopping. Friday we started out at Bill Eddy's Motorsports for a "free" pancake breakfast. Even though we haven't lived in the area since mid-99, I consider Bill (and Steve) as long-time friends and try to stop in there whenever we're down to see our daughter. After breakfast we headed out to the "track" again and got in a test ride on the HD Ultra. Then headed up to Dickson Street. Cathy and I wandered up and down Dickson taking in the sites and sounds..it was okay, but honestly not any different than what we get going up to the Tomahawk (WI) Fall Colors Ride in mid-September. We did see quite a few RSVs and 1st Gen Ventures in the Fayetteville area, both on Dickson Street and at the "track." Must not have been anyone from the VentureRiders (or Venturers) though because I know Venturers would have responded to my earlier posts! Curt- 9 replies

Got a ride in today on a new HD Ultra....and Cathy said that one could go in the garage! For me the bike felt smaller (it is...), but I was comfortable riding it, except for banging my toe into the lower everytime I needed to downshift. I liked the controls, and the fit and finish for the bike was topnotch. Cathy liked the passenger area, but did say it was "closer" to me than the RSV and with the stock windscreen she said the wind and turbulence were equal to our RSV which as a ShowChrome shorter windscreen on it. Cathy also liked the rear audio controls and the headset hookup much better than the RSV. It shook pretty good at idle, but was just as smooth as the RSV under acceleration and at speed. Transmission was clunky like the Vision, but not quite as bad, and it did have a heel/toe shifter. Compared to the Vision, we both liked the HD much much more. Compared to the RSV, honestly I could see an Ultra taking the place of the RSV in our garage (if that time should ever come). Curt

Did on 25 mile demo ride on the Vision today at BBB in Fayetteville AR...ride included surface streets, back road twisties, and freeway. Impressions? What I liked: The fit and finish; power (but don't really think it has anything on the RSV); I liked the smoothness .... you could only tell it was V-twin when it had to pull hard on a hill or hard acceleration on the freeway on ramp ... otherwise no vibration; the handling was fantastic; and I liked the seating position for me. What I didn't like, and more importantly what Cathy didn't like: The gearbox...sounded like a hammer on steel with every gear change up and down (I compared notes with two other Vision demo riders and their comments on the gearbox where the same); no heal/toe shifter, but likely an option; the heat under the seat made my a** pretty hot over such a short ride; Cathy calves touched the front of the saddlebags which made her legs hot; Cathy said it was extremely windy and turbulent for her, even when I had the windscreen all the way up; and while I had lots of room, she felt cramped behind me as compared to the RSV. Overall though I liked it. Would I consider one? Yes. Curt

LA...one up or two up? Your style of riding or the masses in general? While I really like the RSV, number 2 in the garage and close to 100,000 miles between them, it would DEFINITELY NOT be my choice if it were just a one-up traveling bike...no touring bike would be my first choice!. I'd go with my FJR, Concours (1st, 2d, or 3d gen), ST1300, or sport-touring BMW for one-up riding where I want to rack up miles. A 1,000 mile day on my FJR is a lot easier on my body than a 500 mile day on the RSV for me! Two-up? So many choices and not enough money. Would come down to comfort for both my passenger and me. RSV has it, but ready for some updating; Goldwing definitely has it; BMW has it (funny comment removed to protect those without a sense of humor); the Victory looks to have it; and an HD Ultra could easily make it into my garage in the future (another funny comment removed). Bottom-line...SPORT TOURER! Curt

Thanks. Easy ride tomorrow, just a tick over 300 miles; Saturday, I could make it fun, but will probably just do the slab..right at 300 miles again; and Sunday should be fun, 300 miles but all two-lane and most with some twists and turns. New grandbaby makes her arrival Monday PM/Tuesday AM, so good reason to get there. Besides the granddaughter, get to have a little fun toward the backend of the week with Bikes, Blues, and BBQ in Fayetteville. Not sure on coming back yet the following weekend. I did the ride straight through (850 miles) from Lowell AR to Suamico in 13 hours on the FJR (last summer). But 1) I think I'm out of light on either the front end or the back end of the ride...and I don't like critters! Deer or armadillos in AR, or deer in WI! And 2) while the RSV is very comfortable (over 90,000 miles between the two we've had), my tailbone runs out of feel good at about 500 miles! So, I'll probably do 600 or so Saturday, stop someplace in central to northern IL for the night, and then do the rest of the way home Sunday morning. Curt p.s. Slimey Crud the following Sunday? Meet in Pine Bluff around 9 AM? I'll be riding the FJR down from Suamico.

Just in case you see us on the road...Cathy and I are headed out this Friday with the RSV and Bushtec...Suamico WI to Galena IL and overnight in Rock Falls IL. Saturday, easy ride from Rock Falls IL to Cuba MO. And then Sunday Cuba MO to Lowell AR. We'll be in Lowell for the week. On Saturday of that week I'll head back by myself, likely freeway all the way. Since it looks like there will be less light than time it takes to get from Lowell to Suamico straight through, I'll probably stop in northern IL for the night and then backroad it up through WI to home on Sunday. We'll wave as we see you on the road. Curt & Cathy
