Thank you to all veterans...yesterday, today, and tomorrow. "All Gave Some, Some Gave All!" Curt MSgt USAF (Retired)

As mentioned, you don't need to worry about the ferry going to Mackinac Island...they won't let you take your motorcycle to the island anyway. Bicycle yes, motorcycle no. Still a nice ride across northern WI and the UP to get to St Ignace, and then the passenger ferry to the Island.

I originally bought the CD tailight for our 99 RSV and then transferred it the 06 when we bought it. I liked it so much (still do), that I bought several more for close friends with RSVs as well. Way brighter than OEM.

Cathy and I went last year here in GB. The manager and wait staff were fantastic! We had to wait a while, but it was worth it as we got to talk with other vets ..WWII, Korea, Viet Nam, short tour, long tour, retired, active duty, guard, reserve. The other thing I noticed was the sense of pride all in attendance had. I also saw a lot of acts of kindness that evening. There were probably 30 to 40 us in line and waiting for a table...a van pulled up and disabled vet was lowered down in his wheelchair. He had a jungle cap from Vietnam and his stripes on his fatigue shirt. He and his driver went to the end line...everyone in line took a step back and asked him and his driver to go to the front. He didn't want to, but we all insisted (the we ranged from WWII vets to current active duty). He was about in tears, most of us gave a salute has he rolled to the front. Curt

I finally figured out the Harley attitude...
FJR Rider replied to BigBoyinMS's topic in Watering Hole
Momentary thread highjacking .. first seven years of my AF career was in ARRS (for you non-military types, that's Aerospace Search and Rescue Service). I came in at the end of Nam so didn't experience for myself, however many of my co-workers, pilots, crew chiefs, and Pararescuemen did. One of my best friends and mentor from that timeframe was an AF Huey pilot in Nam. The Green Hornets, which was a Army unit (not sure, part of 1st Cav?), were decimated with casualties...a few AF pilots and enlisted crewmembers went over and flew Hueys for the Green Hornets; he was one of those guys...let's just say he survived. Did I say mentor? He was and still is one my heros. Curt I now return you to your regular thread..- 60 replies

Steve, It's about half way between a sport bike and a sport-tourer, hence the sport-tourer without luggage ... sport-tourers such as the Concours, Concours 1400, FJR, ST1300, etc, all come with hard bags (luggage). This is redesigned VFR, and Honda is choosing to use the word "new". The current VFR has been a much used alternative for sport bike riders who don't want the "larger" sport-tourers, but still want the sport-touring aspect. Usually when I see current model VFR the rider has already installed hard bags, and some instances a top case. Aprilla had, may still have, their Futura which is a liter class sport-tourer but more sport-bike, and Ducati has their ST1200 ... both come with hardbags and are billed by the manufacturers as sport-tourers, but way more on the sport-bike side than say an FJR or Concours 1400. If you look closely the bars are not as low as sportbike and there's a little more rake in the forks than on a sportbike. Bigger motor, smaller frame, shaft drive .. Honda is working both sides of the sport-tourer equation, with a little more the sport side. Might not be everyone's cup-o-tea .. but it is one hell of nice alternative for sport-touring riders. Curt

You should see the expression of some folks (won't mention what brand they ride, but they like ice cream) when the rider of a sportbike pulls off his black full face helmet (with white dragons on each side) with black faceshield, and all the folks see is the rider's gray hair !!

Been there done that! Actually, that one happens quite a bit up this way, and they really DO hate it . Especially when you're riding a fully loaded RSV two-up with a fully loaded Bunkhouse camper in tow

Was worth a try at least

Don, Here's what I have (2 sets) .. but I'm thinking after looking at the pix of the N40 and N41 helmets, these may be the pieces you put on after you take the visor off completely. Curt

Charlie, Sent you a note back...will test this afternoon and drop you another note. Curt Don, Would you like me to take some pix of what I have for the N40s? When I look at the pixs of N40s and N41s they look identical. I have some covers, just not the screw. More than willing to take a pix and send to you if you want. Curt

Don, Did these guys have anything? http://www.genuineaccessories.com/NolanHelmets/nolan_n41.html http://www.extremesupply.com/nolanhelmets/n41classic.htm http://www.motorhelmets.com/htm-accessories/nolan/pr-accessories-nolan-helmet-n41-pivot-kit.htm I'm sure you did, but just in case you didn't....

Don, I no longer have our N41s, but I may still have some N41 pieces in the "bike" box. I'll go take a look and see what I have. Curt Edit .. Sorry Don, what Cathy and I had were N40s, not N41s. I did look through everything I have, and between all the HJC, Shoei, Nolan, & Scorpian stuff I have the best I can do for Nolan stuff are side plates and top air vents for the N40s, along with at least one brand new clear shield and a couple of decent used clear and smoke shields. Again, sorry I couldn't help. I did manage to find several full-face J&M headsets and cords though I'd sell if anyone is interested.

Nice easy day ... 80 mile round trip to watch our two grandsons play PW football. 8-year old, one tackle on defense and a couple of good blocks on offense. 10-year grandson, two tackles on defense, on great fake reverse (plays WR), and a couple of good blocks. 3-year old, tackled grandpa .

Cathy and I met Lowell (and Yooper) at Eagleye's (Sauk City WI) Thursday morning for breakfast. We had nice ride over to New Hampton IA, and a great weekend together. Lowell left the Venturers' Ride-In (at the Davis Rally) yesterday late morning .. headed for Cody. Just a tickler here .. you all might want to ask Lowell about the 3-wheel scooter . Can't say much else .. Lowell will have to fill in the details. Eagleye might have a picture or two:whistling:. Curt

There were just over a 100 registered riders, of which 54 were first timers; Pete was one of the first timers. It's quite an event for both rider and motorcycle as both must be well-prepared. Sadly this year's event did have have tradegy as one rider, Davo Jones (Australia) lost his life in deer hit near the end of the event. Cathy and my prayers to go out to his family and friends. http://www.ironbuttrally.com/IBR/2009/html/100-1.html http://www.ironbuttrally.com/IBR/2009/2009IBRepilog.pdf Curt -
