Enjoy the Hills! Very senic out there. What route are you taking East? If you need anything in the eastern side of SD, just give me a call, my number is in the profile. Stay Safe Dave

Wow, that was fast! Thanks Squidly. :big-grin-emoticon: Dave

I am very proud of him. He says he wants to ride out of town with Mom and I. I think he should stay in town for a while to get used to things. Then we will move out to some of the lesser traveled roads. By the way, how can I edit the title of this thread? Thanks, Dave

Looking back on the title, I should have mentioned the MSF tests. Thanks for the replies. It sure is great when the kids learn something and listen to old Dad once in a while. Dave

My 16 YOA son, Dan, passed his MSF Course this past weekend. He scored 96% on the written and only had one minor mistake on the driving course. He has been driving around town on the little Honda we found. This is going to be great, another rider to DQ! I had a stragne occurance a couple of weeks ago. I rode to the bank to make a deposit for work and a fellow followed me into the parking lot. He approached me and said the he used to ride a Goldwing until he wrecked a couple of years ago. He said that he had some riding gear he would like to sell. Doreen and I went to his house and discovered that he and his wife had two leather jackets, a women's textile jacket (with back, elbow, and shoulder removable padding), womens nylon wind chaps and a pair of men's leather chaps. The bigger leather jacket was too small for me and too large for either Doreen or Dan. The smaller leather jacket fits Dan great. We purchased the the nylon chaps, textile jacket, leather chaps (for me) and the coat for Dan. They were happy to get them to someone who will use them and we were happy to get all this for just $200.00! I know the textile jacket is that much alone when new. Sometimes it is nice that things work out. Usually, for me, I step in the cow pie, this time I was able to step over it. Dave

Yammerdan. I was surprised at the spunk this litte thing has even with my, shall we say, extended size. Danny is already planning the mods he wants to make. He's caught the bug! Dave

My 16 YOA son bought himself a bike! We found a 1983 Honda CM250 Custom on Craig's List in Mitchell, SD. Went to look at it last night. It is in very good shape. Odometer reads only 3350 miles. It sure seems like it could be original. Very few nicks and dings. Everything works and it all feels tight. Too much wind around here to ride it home 70 miles but she fit in the pickup easily. He is signed up for the MSF course to be held here in Madison on July 10 & 11. I think this will be a great starter bike for him and it only cost hiim $500.00!!!!!!!!! I know this may be too late to be asking, but does anybody know anything about this bike? We are looking forward to getting out to ride together, even if only to DQ! Dave

YammerDan, VA never questioned me about combat experience. My Active Duty time was June 1977 to April 1979 with a medical discharge. Maybe it is because I am rated at 40% disabled? When did you last have a hearing check? The audiologist told me that they have changed the criteria in the last couple of years. Try it again sometime. Dave

I am now officially an old timer. I will be getting two, count 'em, two hearing aides from the VA on 6/28. I guess the years in the artillery finally caught up to me. Maybe now I will be able to hear what my son is talking about regarding the brakes squeeking on Doreen's van. To al those going to Don's MD, have fun and watch out for yourselves, nobody else on the road will!! Dave

Great Idea!! Do the strips stick on well or do you think they may peel off quickly? Dave

Brake rotor question
bendtdj replied to bendtdj's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Thanks Gary. Looks like too much for me to do. I saw a set of rotors and caliper on ebay for what looked to be a fair price. Here is the listing number 290441089888. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290441089888&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT If anyone is interested. I guess I will keep looking. A rainy day Saturday afternoon, changed the oil and filter on my '84. I was able to get this done fairly quickly (surprisingly for me) and decided to tackle the missing lights on the lower scoop. I found these surface mount side marker lights at Walmart (these are marked Blazer brand item number B423A). I conected the wires with the round plug together connections with dielocectric grease. I had an old set of radio mounting brackets that I used behind the scoop and bolted the lights to this. Not stock, but looks better that the hole. As you can see in the second picture, I did manage to miss the oil pan while draining the old stuff out. Kittylitter to the rescue.

Sounds like a great day!!! But Dang, Mike, you were only 90 miles away form me. Should have called and I would have been able to show you how I mounted the arm rests. The phohtos I posted aren't the greatest. Have fun and be safe. Dave

Way too many and varied music to single out just one or a few. In my collections (albums, cassetts, mp3, cds, and 8Tracks{no way to play these though}) I have almost everything form Acuff to Zappa. Everything except opera, disco, polka, and rap! Dave

It will be less expensive at a locksmith shop. You could also try Ace Hardware or a similar place. Dave

Rumboogy, We saw the Guess Who with the Grass Roots at last year's SD State Fair. Both put on a great show! Black Owl, I wear the "Old Dog" title with pride. But, I don't remember what I had for breakfast either! Dave
-
To all the lovers of oldies. At the South Dakota State Fair in Huron SD, on Sunday, September 5th Three Dog Night will be performing! Doreen and I will be there come what may. This is one of the bands from my younger days that I always wanted to see live. Now's the time!!!! :dancefool: Dave

Doreen and I use a two piece set made by Tingley (sp?). They do not fold down as well as some of the others, but easy to get into and we stay totally dry. The bottoms are bib overall type and the tops have a hood that fits under the helmets. Purchased at Campbell Supply. We were carrying them in this side bags, but will be keeping them in a bag on the runk rack this year. That is, if my shoulder injury heals enough to ride this year.

I got back from the VA about an hour ago. I have a "slight" tear in the AC joint and must wear a sling all the time except when bathing. I also have a perscription for vicodan. I am moving in slow-mo right now. I will be seeing the ortho people in about 3 weeks. They are hoping (as am I) that it will heal itself without surgery. I am so glad it was me and not the kid. Also glad it was not the Venture. If it had been, Doreen would more than likely have been on it with me. One handed, left handed typing takes a lot of effort. Just when it was getting nice, I cann't ride for awhile. :crying: Thanks for all your thought and comments. RIDE SAFE!!!! Dave

I think that this really showed the kid that he needs to wear some protective gear. I had on a good jacket, he sort of chuckled when I put it on, but no scrapes there. Dave

I had asked earlier about a dual sport for my son. Thanks for all the advice. He decided that he wanted to start on a 49 CC scooter. We found him a nice year old Chinese made one last Friday. It only has about 150 miles on it. Well, on Sunday, Doreen's family got together here in Madison for Easter. I thought I would take the scooter for a spin since it was such a nice day. As I attempted to slow down to check for traffic before leaving the parking lot, the front brake locked up and I dumped it. The damage to the scooter is minimal, mostly cosmetic, and possibly the triple tree (or a resonable facsimile thereof). Me, on the other hand, scrapped my knee (the right one with the artificial joint) and landed with most of my weight on my right shoulder. I am going to see the DR Wednesday in Sioux Falls (VA) and find out what is wrong with it. I can move it in every direction, with pain, but not too bad if I go in slow motion. I am really glad it was not my Venture!!!!! I think it probably would have landed on my leg and I would really have problems then. Thanks for listening, and keep your fingers crossed it is not something too serious. Dave
