It is now 2:35 P.M. here in Madison, SD. The fog gave way to rain this morning. The rain has now given way to snow. The forecast is for more of this white stuff and very cold temps. I am glad that Doreen and I don't worry about the "New Year's Eve" party thing anymore. I would not want to be out Friday night. I HATE WINTER!!!!!!!!!!! Dave

Has anyone ever tried the Vega Touring Motorcycle Boots? I see Jafrum has a fairly good price on them here: http://www.jafrum.com/Motorcycle-Boots/Mens-Motorcycle-Boots/MB2500 They look comfortable for both riding and walking around. $69.99 each for men's and women's is affordable. Just looking forward to spring time. Thanks, Dave

Ruffy, I have had my new knee for a little bit over three years now, it was done when I was 49 years old. All I can say is that I wish I had been able to do it sooner. In my case, I had to waite until I met the standards set by the VA in DC. I know my Doctor in Sioux Falls wanted to do it sooner, but had to follow the guidelines set forth from on high. The initial pain was not too bad. The rehab hurt, but must be done to ensure a full recovery. I have had no trouble riding my '84. I did lose my ability to forecast a change in weather, though. If you do goet the replacement, DO THE REHAB!!!!!! Take care, Dave

When I was in Basic Training at MCRD Parris Island in 1977, my Grandmother fell and broke her hip. My parents contacted the Red Cross and I got to make a phone call right away. Good luck and prayers sent. Semper Fi Dave

What a sweetie looking Bassett! Animals (the four legged kind) make our lives much fuller. As for specific breed hatred, I have to say it is not the dog, but the human that is at fault. Here is a pic of our girl Lady. We got her at the Sioux Falls Humane Society in August of 2004 so she is about 7 years old now. They did not know anything about her as she was a stray. They thought she as part German Shepard. After doing some breed research, I have come to believe, based on her body structure and attitude, she has whipett in her. She can go from 0 to 30 in about three strides. Dave

This is one of the best emails I have gotten in a while! An older, tired-looking dog wandered into my yard. I could tell from his collar and well-fed belly that he had a home and was well taken care of. He calmly came over to me, I gave him a few pats on his head; He then followed me into my house, slowly walked down the Hall, curled up in the corner and fell asleep. An hour later, he went to the door, and I let him out. The next day he was back, greeted me in my yard, walked inside and resumed his spot in the hall and again slept for about an hour. This continued off and on for several weeks. Curious I pinned a note to his collar: 'I would like to find out who the owner of this wonderful sweet dog is And ask if you are aware that almost every afternoon your dog comes to my house for a nap.' The next day he arrived for his nap, with a different note pinned to his collar: 'He lives in a home with 6 children, 2 under the age of 3 - he's trying to catch up on his sleep. Can I come with him tomorrow?

I looked into a goldwing trike listed "in" Sioux Falls, SD. I recieved the same reply, word for word!!!! It showed different photos, but the same reply. This is a SCAM! Run away, don't even consider it. Dave -
We carry a smal automotive first aid kit in the side bag. When we go somewhere to stay overnight, my c-pap machine takes up the rest of the room. I think we got it at the local Dollar General store fairly low priced. Haven't had to use it yet, but nice to know it is there. Dave

Clock Issue
bendtdj replied to icebrrg3rd's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Good morning, Welcome to the site. I have nothing to help you with the clock issue, but you may want to look over your shoulder to see if Rod Serling's ghost is around, maybe you landed in the Twilight Zone. Dave -
Doreen and I were there a couple of years ago. We took in the Tournement of Kings at the Excaliber. Kinghts of the Round Table kind of thing. The actors are in a big arena and have sword fights and even joust on horseback! This is a dinner show and you eat as they did back then, no utensils. You get a huge cornish game hen, soup in a mug, and more. You then cheer for the knight that represents the section you are seated in. We got to cheer the Black Knight. What a blast. The best thing though, as others have said, was the people watching. Just a great time. I wouldn't mind going again for more than three days this time. Dave

We would like to find a larger trunk for our '84 Venture. Our weekend away showed us we need more room. I know I saw the answer here but I can not find it. Does a trunk fom a 1985 fit onto the bracket on a 1984? The '85 is larger isn't it? If I go with an '86 and newer, I know I would need the mounting bracket, does the newer one bolt right up or are there mods needed? Thanks, Dave

A grommet in the middle on the edges with a guy line would help to tighten it up. They are not too hard to put in. I think most farm supply stores would carry a kit you could get cheap. Dave

Bernie, Glad to hear you made safe & sound. The web cam from the Rapid City Journal is as close as I want to get. Too many people there for me to be comfortable. Did you get to any of the concerts? May see PeeWee? Dave

I get 38 to 42 depending on two up or solo. Better mileage without the ethanol in the gas. Dave

Doreen and I took a short get away this past weekend. We left home after I got off work on Saturday and drove to Chamberlain, SD. A short jaunt for most folks on here, 140 miles, but the longest tip we have taken so far. We took back roads and in spite of the heat, we had a great ride. The only problem we had was that I lost function on the speedometer about 90 miles from home. We pulled into a small town and found some shade. I thought that since I had everything else functioning on the dash except the speedo and odo, the cable may have come loose on the speedo head. I had it off earlier this spring so I could lube it. As I started to take the chrome timr off, I looked down and saw that the cable had come loose from the sensor on the wheel. Easy fix and back on the road again. We stayed at an AmericInn right be the Interstate. There were at least 4 dozen bikes parked there. This did not include those inside trailers. One Voyager, two Goldwing trikes (matching units and one with a trailer) and my Venture. Everything else was HD. I would love to have a fourth of the value of those bikes in the bank!!!!!! A hot ride, 95 degrees or so, but we stayed hydrated and had a good time. Sunday was another great ride. We left there about 7:30 AM in an attempt to beat the heat. FAILED in this attempt. Sure is sweaty in the leathers. We had stopped at a wide spot in the road on SD HWY 34 heading back. A group of 8 bikes and 2 pickups approached us from the East. First bike was what looked like an older Honda Hawk, could not tell as I was agog at the remaining bikes. These were all 1930's or 40's INDIANS! What a bunch of great looking motorcycles! The first pickup had a trailer with two more Indians and the other pickup had an older Yamaha Virago in the bed. Every one of the group was looking to make sure we were not broken down and they all thought we were headed the wrong way. I have got to say that everytime we met anyone on the road, they did wave back. Sorry for the rambling, I hope everyone elses had a great weekend as well. Dave

We were unable to attend. My mother-in-law was hospitalized in Sioux Falls so that is where we were at. We did buy coupons for 3 blizzards to be picked up at a later date though. The DQ here in Madison has announced the sale of 20,995 blizzards for the CMN fundraiser. That is a LOT of ice cream. The owner and his staff really go all out for this. Dave

Rear sequential LED turn signals done & installed

Wow, those are neat. I would think (hope) that others would notice them on the road. Dave -
Danny has been riding for almost a month now! We have taken one out of town run, a short 30 mile round trip to Doreen's parents farm. I did have to keep an eye on him as the Venture wanted to get up and go too much! He is alreay looking for a bigger bike so he can keep up with me. He is saving and really likes the cruiser type bikes. He is not interested in a tourer. Imagine that, a teenager not wanting an old gut bike. Watching him ride, I have to admit that I am very proud of him. He handles this bike like a pro. Dave

With all the rain we have had up here in South Dakota, that may be a good set up for us. I know that there are roads closed due to water all over the place. Deadwood, out west, just suffered a hail storm that left drifts up to a foot and a half!!!! Dave

Dennis, Take care when you get near Chamberlain. There was A LOT OF RAIN from there east last night. Some areas got up to 8 to 10 inches!!!!!!!!!! Lots of secondary roads covered with runoff. Haven't heard of any problems on the Interstate though. Stay Safe Dave

The DQ here in little bitty Madison, SD has been the largest seller of Blizzards for this event for the last two or three years now. We all pitch in and "suffer" through to help with this worthy cause. I will be there!!!! Dave
