  2. A Woodchuck would chuck as much wood as he could, IF his dentures were any good! Good Luck Annie!! Dave
  3. That SkyRoll looks like a great product. Has anyone seen something that is not quite as expensive? Their web sites lists the price at $199.00. That is a tad high for me. Dave
  4. WOW! That looks great! I wish I had some sort of talent. I need a ruler to draw a straight line. Even then it may not turn out how I want it. You do indeed owe him a steak. Dave
  5. Bernie, I can think of only one word, NIIIIIIIIIIIIIIICCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is a really great looking bike, love the color. Stay safe, Dave
  6. Hey Bernie, Where are you going to pick up the HD? Glacial Lakes? Hope you have a blast on the thing. It has gotta be better the the tracors! Try to keep dry. :stickinouttounge: Have fun, Dave
  7. I now know why the ACC fuse blew as well. I will fix this tomorrow. Thanks guys. Dave
  8. Thanks, guys. It is not how much you know, it is all in knowing who to ask!! That is why this is such a great bunch of people here. :cool10: Take care, Dave
  9. While attepmting to remove the headlight bulb tonight, the socket (where the bulb plugs into the wireing) broke. I am guessing this socket, fixture, plug, or whatchamacallit, is part of the wiring harness. Is there anything a person could use to replace this? Other than a new harness? I think that I will get this fixed and then hire someone to do things for me. Fix one thing and another breaks.:confused24: Might give up completely, go into debt, and buy a Can-Am Spder. At least then it would be warranty work. Thanks, Dave
  10. That's the next step Mike. I did get the fuse block replaced tonight and the bike runs. Horray?@?!!?!?!?!?? This was my questionable area, outlined in red where the two screws are with no fuse between them. I put a 30 amp fuse in there. I did start the bike and it did not blow. Do you know if this is too much? What is the size wire on the Max Fuse? I will be getting one in the very near future. Thanks, Dave
  11. I am going to replace the glass fuses with the ATC blade type set-up on my '84. With all the writeups here, I think I can tackle the issue. My question is, What about the top (towards the front of the bike) connection. I understand that this is called a fusable link. Can I hook this to a fuse and if so, what size should I use? It is finally getting warm enough here to work in an unheated garage and I would like to get the bike ready to ride. Thanks, Dave
  12. Here in Madison, SD we have the best DQ I have ever been to!!!!!!!!! We are right on SD HWY 34 that is MN HWY 30. Some construction between here and Minnesota state line, but we are only aobut 30 miles north of I90. If you are interested in Laura Ingalls Wilder, DeSmet, SD is about a 45 minute drive on US 14. This is the "Little Town on the Prairie" she wrote of. SD 34, or US 14 will take you all the way to the Black Hills. Sure, it is only a two lane highway, but more relaxing the the Interstate. If you have time, give me a call. The number is in my profile. Dave
  13. Earl, Very nice job. REally adds to the tail end. On my MK I, I used a 1 1/2" X 2" X 1/8" Angle Iron u-bolted to the the underside of the trunk mounting rack. Then I mounted the light bar to the angle iron. Sorry for the focus problems. Dave
  14. Here it is Friday night already. Dan only got to ride the Nighthawk around town for about an hour on Wednesday evening and he is still grinning!!!!!! I think he understands the idea of wearing the gear. He sees that I always have on boots, chaps, gloves, either a denim jacket or my leather coat and the helmet. He currently has a flat black flip up helmet, but wants to get a red standard full face. He wants to match the bike, but says he does not like nor does he use the flip up feature. Doreen and I have the same helmet as he does only in silver so not too absorb too much heat in the summer sun. We are planning to get some rides in when it finally warms up here in South Dakota. Even though it has been in hte 40's and 50's this week, I still have about a foot and a half of snow in my front yard! If spring is coming, I wish it would hurry. Stay safe Dave
  15. Dan's 1983 CM250 custom sold a week ago to a lady in Sioux Falls, SD who is just learning to ride. They come up to check it out an did not even haggle on the price. I guess we had is too low at $700.00. Got out about what we put in and they got a good deal so every body is happy. After much research, internet surfing, and many conversations, we finally found Dan a bigger bike. We found him a 1991 Honda CB750 Nighthawk. It has about 30,000 mile on it but is in great shape. We brought it home Wednesday evening and Dan had to take it out to show all his buddies. Before he left, I reminded him of how much more power the 750 has over the 250. When he got home, he had a HUGE smile on his face. I knew we got the right one. When he got off the bike in the garage, he told me that he will have to be careful with this. he said he was surprised by the power. He said this without my having to ask him. I think this shows a great level of maturity in him. We are already planning where to ride when he gets used to the Nighthawk. Now he want to get a matching helmet! At least he is looking at full faced ones. Thanks for all the input on my previous posts about this. Dave
  16. Well, we hit a snag on the V-star purchase. The guy over in Minnesota can not find the title. Without that, I pulled the plug on the deal. We are going to Sioux Falls Saturday and look at three that are for sale there. I Think we can do a better deal on one of these. Thanks for the replies. captainjoe's offer sounds good, just too far to retrieve it. Dave
  17. Looks like we worked out a deal for Dan, (my 16 yoa son) buying a 2001 V-Star 650 Custom with just 5275 miles on it. The testing deal is for $2000.00 We will be going to Walnut Grove, MN on Saturday to check it out. If it runs ok and he fits on it, it will be trailered home. (high only 27 degrees forcast) The only problem I can see from the Craig's list pics is that it was laid down once and has a dent the fuel tank. I think, hope, that could be fixed easily. If not, I think we could locate a replacement. Pinwall more than likely. Wish us luck Dave
  18. Yammer Dan, My son drives a 2002 Concorde Limited ProAm model. The ride is woderful, when I can fold myself into it. I am too used to my pickup truck. The onboard computer shows real-time fuel mileage at about 28 on the interstate (75 MPH) with cruise control set. Somewhere around 18 in town. Have had no problems with the car in the year he's had it. Just be aware, body parts are spendy. He had another high school kid bump into the rear end of his car a month ago. The only damage done was breaking the bumper cover. Almost a thousand dollars to repair it. We never had a Century. Did have a LeSabre once. 3100 motors will run almost as long and as strong as a First Gen! Good luck, Dave
  19. MiCarl, Is this a difficult fix? Dave
  20. This winter I have been totally immersed in snow, shoveling, blowing, swearing at, etc. My main hobbies include reading (mostly Science fiction), some fishing (not so much since I got the '84), and spending time with kids and granddaughter. Dave
  21. Thanks for all the input, folks. Earl, with your review, I am starting to rethink things. The same dealer has a 1983 Virago 500 with just over 6,000 miles on it for the same price. This one comes with saddle bags and windshield. In comparing the photos of the two, the Virago looks to be more comfortable, and a bit safer. Would a 500 be enough to travel a bit? http://www.yanktonmotorsports.com/images/yanktonmotorsports/VP1762005_2_large.jpg Thanks, Dave
  22. I have a question for the wise ones here. I know it is not Venture related, but does anyone here know anything about the 1982 Honda V-45 Sabre? We are still looking to upgrade my 16 year old's bike. There is one listed at a dealer in Yankton for $1500.00 with only 13,000 miles on it. Pictures make it look pretty good. Any help would be appreciated. Do you folks think that a jump from 250 to 750 is too much? http://www.yanktonmotorsports.com/images/yanktonmotorsports/VP1921574_1_large.jpg Thanks, Dave
  23. Does anyone know anything about a 1987 Suzuki VS 700 Intruder? Saw one on Craig's List near here and looks like a decent deal. Photos make it look like it is in good shape. It has a corbin seat, slip on pipes and drag bars mounted. Seems that this could be a next bike for my 16 year old son. They are asking $2500, but we would offer less than that, somewhere around $1800 to $2000. Thanks, Dave
