Brian, I hooked the U bolts over the rack and drilled through the angle iron. I thought that this would allow some adjustments to be made for the proper positioning. I did pain the angle iron a flat black using Rustoleum spray paint. Last I looked, I could not see any rust yet. If you want some more pictures, I will take some tonight after work. Dave

Brian, Here is what I did on my 1984: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=40573 The rear lights on mine are running and brake only. I used stainless steel "U"bolts on the trunk mountin rack into a piece of 1 1/2" X 2" X 1/8" angle iron. Using the longer side horizontally from teh rack moved the lights out even with the trunk. I, myself, would be leery of drilling into the rack itself. I think that most of the "U"bolts I have purchased come wtih a flat piece that sort of acts as a washer. YHou may beable to use two of these on each U to make a "sanwich" to hold the towel bar you are using. I am sure other will pitch in with other ideas as well. Good luck. Dave

I had my Right knee done in late August, 2007. Best thing I could have hoped for. Sure, the Physical Therapy hurt like the dickens, but made it worthwhile. I was using a walker for six weeks and I now know why old folks are cranky. I wa not able to ride any kind of two wheels prior to the replacement. Now, I can ride just a long as I want, as long as my passenger is comfortable. I just need to shift the positioning of the leg once in a while. Highway pegs are great. If you do have it done, listen to the Docs and Rehab. The initial pain is worth a better recovery in the long run. Dave

I do not remember the numbers, but there are some of our Canadian Brothers listed on the Wall as well. My Uncle Dennis Toms (my mother's brother) is listed. He was serving on the USS Bon Homme Richard in the South China Sea. May we never forget. Dave

I, too, have the BadBoy on my 1984. Loud!!!!!!!! I mounted it on the Right side of the bike where the OEM horn was mounted. I made up some jumpers and mounted the displaced horn on the Left side of the bike. The combination made it about an inch short of being completely obnoxious. But to me, that is a good thing. Dave

Black Hills of SD some of the scenic roads
bendtdj replied to cimmer's topic in West North Central States
Yes, there is an actual hot springs. It is called Evans Plunge. It has been a while since I was there, but it was neat. You should consider checking out the Mammoth Site. It is an ongoing archeological dig. They have discovered many mammoths there. Enjoy the Hills. If anyone gets to the East Side of South Dakota and wants Ice Cream, here in Madison we have the BESTEST DQ I have found!! :cool10: My number is in my profile. Stay safe and keep the shiny side up! In South Dakota- drive train HELP
bendtdj replied to rumboogy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
rumboogy, If you are in Custer, there are shops north of you in Rapid City http://www.blackhillspowersports.com/ or in Spearfish http://www.outdoor-motorsports.com/ or even Sturgis http://www.sturgisyamaha.com/ . I could not say which is better but either Rapid City or Spearfish is closer than Sturgis. If you think you want to try to get to the Eastern side of the state, I am in Madison, about 25 miles or so north of I-90 on either US 81 or SD 19. The dealer here, Interlakes Sport Center (a multi-line dealer), is very good. The shop people are top-notch. They have always treated me well. The DQ in tow if the best in the area!!! If you need anything on this end of SD, my number is in my profile. Good luck, Dave -
On Sunday, Doreen and I went for a ride. It was a beautiful day, sun shining, slight breeze and not very hot. As we were Westbound on SD HWY 34 about 10 miles from home, we were passed by a soft-top Jeep. I had been watching it catch up to us for a bit as we were only cruising about 55-60 MPH in a 65 MPH Zone. After the Jeep went by, I got a great surprise. A great looking MK II (in BLUE!) went by us. They must have had a strict time table to keep as they were going about 70-75. I was able to keep them in sight until they turned North on SD HWY 25. We were headed to DeSmet, SD and headed up the same highway. I thought that we might see them in DeSmet but no luck there. They must not have been members here. They by-passed a perfectly good Dairy Queen!! If it was anyone here, I hope you had a great ride and if you get back in the area, feel free to contact me. Madison has a fantastic DQ! Stay Safe, Dave

The best thing about grandbabies is that you get to say, "This is stinky, it is yours!" Congrats to all!

I had the same trouble at first when I installed the Wolo horns. Did you run a dedicated wire from the battery. Initially, I did not an dcould get nothing but the relay clicking. Changed to direct wire to the relay and loudness erupted. Dave

Just put on Wolo Bad Boy horns on the son's bike and mine. Northern Tool and Equipment has them for about $30.00, cheaper even than Wolo's web site. They were in stock at the new Sioux Falls Store. If you have one around your area, check them out. Dave

Wolo Horn Problems
bendtdj replied to bendtdj's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
We got the horns working. Dan's bike was a faulty ground. We ran a wire back to the frame instead of the bolt that held the old horn to the fork and loudness ensued. On my 84, my logic was more Mr. Rogers than Mr. Spock. I thought that since the instructions said to use an in line fuse, why not run it through the fuse block. I had an empty spot just waiting for something. It did not work, obviously. I ran a dedicated line from the battery, through an inline 20 amp ATC fuse to the relay and hot dog, LOUDNESS again ensued. I mounted the Wolo on the right side in place of the OEM horn. While putting thins back together, I got to thinking, (OH NO NOT AGAIN! this usually gets me in really deep doo-doo). I put a piece of chromed radio mounting bracket on the Left side, bolted both horns to this and wired them together on that side. The sound, I must say, is about 2 inches away from total obnoxiousness. I feel that it is just right to get other to see me, or at least to try to find the noise. Thanks for all the help in the replies. I love this site. I never would havve tried to do this without all the previous posts on installing these horns.- 7 replies

I purchased 2 Wolo Bad Boys at the new Northern Tool & Equipment store in Sioux Falls on Saturday. Went to work on sunday to install them. One on my '84 and one on my son's 91 750 Nighthawk. We can get neither one to work. We wired just as the directions show to do. The relays will click and that is all. Any ideas? Thanks, Dave

NIIIIIIIICE! Unfortunatly, I don't fold enough anymore to fit in most cars. Van and pick-up, fine, cars, not so much. Dave

BoomerCPO, Glad you're OK!! My wife asked me once why I stopped so far behind a car in front of us at a light. I told her we needed to have an escape route for just this type of situation. My head swivels so much, I get just about as dizzy as your pygmies sound to be. Stay Safe. Dave

We have a fierce-coward at our house as well, a whipett/german shepherd mix. If Lady is outside finding just the right spot to do her thing and a leaf blows across the grass, she runs to the house. But, if someone were to try to hurt Doreen, they would pull back a bloody stump. She does not like storms either. We got her from the humane society in August, 2004 and she has been a great addition to the family. Dave

I once worked as a locksmith. The biggest problem with graphite is that it will "gunk up" when it gets wet, or even moist. I use a spray lube with teflon in it. Works well for me. Dave
