  1. I spit my coffee out!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
  2. Howdy all, Spent the better part of the afternoon in the garage. Had an inch of rain today so I thought I would tackle my blinker problem. It turned out is was a dirty hazard switch, cleaned it real well and sanded the contacts slightly. Thanks GeorgeS & AtlantaDragonSlayer. I went ahead and cleaned just about every conection I could find, blinker system or not. Used a dab of dielectric grease on them as well. I am so impressed with the knowedge and the willingness to share this know-how with total strangers. I am truley grateful. Thanks, Dave
  3. I had my hazard switch out last night and could not see how or if it comes apart. Mine appears to be riveted (for lack of a better term) closed. There is no head on it like on a pop rivet. could the plastic just be pressed on the metal post? I did get a bunch of contact cleaner spray in it. Does the flasher unit look like one used in a car? I could not see any round units when I had it apart last night. If so, where is it located? Bob, I got your pm, will be gining this a try this weekend. Luclily, my brother-in-law is my local mechanical help and he told me what I need to do when I borrow his mulitmeter. Thanks all, Dave
  4. Boomer, Yammer Dan, and all other vets, past, present and yet to come. THANK YOU! I was in USMC 1977 -79 (medical discharge) South Dakota Army Guard 1980 - 93. While I was never "in country" (so to speak) anywhere, I know that I agree with the phrase, "All gave some, Some gave all." You all have my greatest respect. Dave
  5. Thanks for the info. I hope I win the bidding. Should dress it up a bit. Dave
  6. Does any of the many wise folks here know if a luggage rack from an 1986 would fit m pn my 1984? I am considering the one on eBay listed here http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220436035151&ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:MOTORS:1123 Thanks in advance Dave
  7. Greeting all! I am having an intermitant problem with my turn signals. They do not work most of the time. After about a 45 minute rid, they will start to work. I have taken the switch apart and cleaned with contact cleaner. The hazard switch has been removed, sprayed with contact cleaner and replaced. These function the same as the blinkers. They work as running lights, just no blinker. I also sprayed down the connector for the blinkers. Could it be the realay? I use turn signals ALL the time, even if no traffic around. This is just a habit I got into. Thanks for any suggestions. Dave
  8. Wow, I bet that looked good! I am not a Steelers fan but would have liked to have seen it. I have been to one Minnesota Vikings game (ya I know, I know the Viqueens) and saw a lot of people go WAY overboard with their decorations. Face paint, tattoos, etc. Enjoyed the game but hated the drunks behind us with their foul mouths, and that was just the women!!!!!!!!!! Dave
  9. What have others here done to ease the "wrap around" wid for their passenger's comfort? On our ride last evening, Doreen was complaining about some buffeting coming around the fairing. I do not know what the "wings" are actually called, but have seen some on other bikes whil on the road. As for the short trip, we went back county roads around Madison, SD. One section is called Valley Road in NE McCook County. Nice curvey road (Doreen did not like that, but we are both new to this type of bike) good scenery, virtually no traffic. We went about 50 miles and enjoyed every minute of it. We are working our way up to longer rides. Hope to take a good trip later this summer. Thanks, Dave
  10. RedRider, Guess you got a point there. Time to call up my old buddies from the days on Okinawa, JIM, JACK, & JOHNNIE tonight. NOT Saturday night though. Want a semi clear head for the Sunday drive. Dave
  11. Anybody know a sure fire way to cure or kill a cold? It is supposed to be a great weekend and Doreen want to go for a ride. I have such a cold that if it is going to kill me, I just wish it would HURRY UP and get the job done. Thdecongestant I have taken has messed up my head so much, I have had to preview and redo this three times. Hate spring colds. Dave
  12. I finally figured out how to post some photos. I have them in my profile. Haven't quite got how to post here yet. I finished installing a set of Platinum burners from wally world, I hope that they help others to see me. I also installed a set of OEM mufflers I got from AtlantaDragonslayer (thanks, Bob). I like the quiet exhaust. The previous owner took out the baffles and this made them too loud for me. Take care, Dave

    1984 Venture

My 84 with Platinum Burners installed.
  14. Greetings all, While scouring through all the older posts for anything I could learn about my 84, I stumbled across this old post. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=22081&page=3 I did download the manual that mbrood (Mike Brood) so kindly had posted on 6/12/08. It does contain some info that I could not find in the service manual. THANKS MIKE! We had around one half inch of SNOW this morning here in Madison, SD. No riding, still only 50 at 6:00 P.M. Take care all and ride safe. Dave
  15. Those look great! I have been trying to adjust the foot boards on my 84 so my wife can enoy the ride a bit more. I will check under mine to see if something like this can be done on the older style. The previous owner put some boards for the passenger off a HD. Doreen likes the boards much better then the pegs on the other bikes we have had, but I think she will love to stretch her legs out on a ride. Thanks for the ideas. Even though I have been a member for only about a month, I have learned so much from all you good folks. Dave
  16. Greetins all, I got up to take our dog out at 5:00 AM today and I thought I overslept clear through to November! We had a bit better than 1/2" of snow on our deck. This past Thursday we had record temps, 90 degrees F. Oh, well, guess I will install the mufflers I bought from AtlantaDragonSlayer. It is still just 34 F outside. I HATE WEATHER!!!!!!! Dave

    Boned again

MRAF, Sorry you ran into an unethical scrap yard. Here in Madison, SD, we pay by the standard ton, 2,000 pounds. Our prices are way down from one year ago. If you bring in prepared iron (cut into pieces no larger that 18" X 36") we can only afford to pay $20.00 per ton. Last year we were paying $200.00! We have not shipped out any scrap for 10 weeks or so. The surprising thing is, we are getting people bringing in the stuff! It is people like those you dealt with that give all yards a bad name. I have been watching the loads that come in for any Ventures (and other bikes). If any come in, I will talk the boss into selling them to me (hopefully cheap) and then list the parts that are any good. Dave
  18. Howdy all, When I was a Deputy Sheriff here in South Dakota, I did not have any whistles on the patrol car, did not ever hit one either. I did write numerous collision reports regarding car vs. deer and many of the vehicles did have the whistles on them. I was involved in aiding an adjoining agency in a pursuit one time at about 3:00 a.m. (hated doing that) and was running all the lights and sirens. I had a deer jump out in front of me and, at the time, I knew it was a close miss. While reviewing the video tape from the dash cam, I was surprised as to how close it actually was. Surprised there was no hair in the headlight trim. I believe that if the siren did not scare the critter away, nothing will. I hope I do not encounter one on the bike. Dave
  19. Thanks for all the responses. I am undecided what I am going to do as of yet. I guess I will keep looking and trying to learn as I go. This site is such a great help to me. This is only the third bike I ahve owned and both the others were Hondas. Need to get some decent weather on a weekend to take a longer ride with the Venture. So far i love it. Dave
  20. Thanks for the info. My Venture is a standard model. It has an AM-FM radio. I noticed a round hole in the plastic to the inboard side from the radio cover. Whould this be where the cable was located origially? Dave
  21. Boomer, Leave it the the Navy. By your handle, I'm guessing missle sub Chief. COB perhaps? Spent my time in the USMC, field artillery and the South Dakota Army National Guard, both artillery and combat engineers. I appreciate all the great info I have found on this site as well as all the good natured bantering. Dave
  22. Howdy; I have had my 1984 Venture for a month now and have been able to get only 45 miles on it! Even though just a few miles, I LOVE this bike. It is my first full dresser. It has been too cold. I added a photo taken by the previous owner to my profile. I don't have any that I have taken yet. I have been looking through the service manual and I can not find what I am looking for. Did these all come with the intercom hook-up? I have seen what looks to be a receptical for an audio cable near the radio unit under the redio display unit. Is this where the intercom hooks up? If so, would any of hte oh so intelligent and knowledabe people here have any suggestions as to where to get the cable and head sets needed to make it work? Thanks, Dave
