cruise control problem on 05 RSTD
wes0778 replied to truckin48's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
On my RSV I have to push SET, then immediately push Resume/Acc... -
If the dealer was not forthcoming about the rear tire, what else could be waiting to "pop-up"? I don't remember if this bike was a real "steal" like I got from an individual, but since this is a dealer, I would let him know the rear tire is a deal breaker! If they won't change the tire, they could TAKE IT to someone that would. Another thought, if they don't work on "other" bikes, has it been serviced? Have they done anything to check it over? Are the brake pads in the same shape as the tire? BTW the bike I drove 480 miles to pick up had a tire in about this shape. In my estimation it would not have made it home without wearing into the cord, and yes it was raining the day I went after it. I trailered it home, and glad I did! IMHO there is no way in H**L that I would pick up a strange bike, dealer or not, and ride away on a 500 mile trip by myself. just my I'll sit down now

Skid, This schematic doesn't show the "other" horn, or the wire colors, but does show the relay (that should have come with the horn) connections.

Have ya tried a local (make it as ya go) exhaust/muffler installer to see if they could make you an adapter. Also I have see a bin, at Advance Auto Parts, with all kinds of pre-made adapters. -
So after landing my new job as a Wal-Mart greeter, a good find for many retirees, I lasted less than a day...... About two hours into my first day on the job a very loud, unattractive, mean-acting woman walked into the store with her two kids, Yelling obscenities at them all the way through the entrance. As I had been instructed, I said pleasantly, 'Good morning and welcome to Wal-Mart. Nice children you have there. Are they twins?' The ugly woman stopped yelling long enough to say, 'Hell no, they ain't twins. The oldest one's 9, and the other one's 7.. Why the hell would you think they're twins? Are you blind, or just stupid?' So I replied, 'I'm neither blind nor stupid, Ma'am, I just couldn't believe someone slept with you twice. Have a good day and thank you for shopping at Wal-Mart.' My supervisor said I probably wasn't cut out for this line of work.

Suspension / handling questions
wes0778 replied to yamadawg's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Back to the original question... I'm one of the inseam challenged (27") members of the group and would like to lower the front. What difference should I notice, aside from being able to almost get both heels down, at the same time? -
Local Ace Hardware has them here. The Stealership get about $8.00US for the generic Yammie blanks. They want more than $50.00US for the tear drop shaped Venture blank. When I went to one of the local Ace stores to get a key for my RSV, they were temporarly out of the blanks called for. Not to be out done, the guy there matched up a Honda car blank and cut it. I tried it in the ignition and it would not turn, so he didn't charge me. When I got home I tried it in the saddle bag and trunk. It works great, so I need to go back by and pay for it. It also will work in the ignition if you wiggle it enough. Another thing I learned, since one of the saddlebags on the RSV has a different lock, the Yammie locks only use one side of the key. SOOOO, I have a key that one side fits the ignition, left bag and trunk and the otherside fits the right bag. I cut a notch in one side of the plastic on the top of the key so I know which way to insert it for each lock. That key stays in my right front pants pocket and the "Honda car" key in my right pocket and there is another one in my wallet.

Did ya go ahead and shift into 5th? :stickpoke::stirthepot: -
We had a great ride to the Mississippi M&E. Not sure how many miles I rode, 'cause there were several that rode more miles just to get there and back. But I ran a whole tank (7-8 miles on reserve) plus 60 miles on the fill-up. Dead short, no power, need help
wes0778 replied to RockinRuss's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Dead short = blown fuse(somewhere) OR "the smoke" comes out!!! -
Both 4th and 5th on these V4s ARE overdrive (greater than 1:1 ratio). The V4 likes the revs. Infact some folks don't even use 5th under 60mph. Don't be afraid to wind it out. You cannot hurt it, the rev limiter will stop it long before the revs will hurt. Passing gear even at interstate speeds can be 3rd, believe it or not. I'm told the rev limiter will not "catch" it in 3rd until 96, or so...

wes0778 replied to Ga Dawg's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Don't know about 1st gens, but someone told me that a '98 RSTC and a '99 RSV will do well over 90 in 3rd. I tend to believe them... -
Buz, Check this thread, This is the helmet I use. Best I can tell it is not Snell rated, but is of course DOT approved. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=352653&highlight=helmet#post352653 Walter
