  1. And I guess it should go without saying it is MUCH easier to handle the tank if it is almost empty. Oh and if available a second pair of hands is handy taking care of the wires and hose that you find, under the tank, connecting the tank to the bike.
  2. Just wish I could make it! I was conspiring with Boomer to ride out with him, when my presence was requested to work May 6, 7, 10 & 11 in Gulfport.
  3. Should we tell him about getting the air box apart, or let him find out???
  4. Rest stop at our place and less than 500 miles to go... :stirthepot:
  5. Isn't another indicator the location of the ignition switch? I know on the TC it is under the left front of the fuel tank, and on the "standard" it is below the seat, correct?
  6. Go by a store that sells aquarium supplies and pick up a couple of air tubing cut off valves. Put them in line with your vacuum gauge(s) and open it just enough to show a steady vacuum reading.
  7. Looks like ground clearance leaves a little to be desired...
  8. I resemble that remark, :rasberry: SOOOO, I lowered the front instead of raising the back...
  9. NICE RIDE!!! But, hey it's not "old" technology, it's proven technology!!! :dancefool:
  10. one of mine is gone and I don't even bother to put a nut on the other one.
  11. My local ACE Hardware has yet to let me down on any of my nut/bolt needs.
  12. The '98 RSTC will do some of the Sportsters too
  13. Did you try your local Ace Hardware? The ones they have are Phillips head, but fit just fine. They also have the nylon washers. I suspect you will spend less at Ace too.
  14. Be careful with the LocTite! It has been said here somewhere that it will dissolve ABS plastic.
  15. We inseam challenged (27") folks have an option to get the same results. Lower the front end by an inch. It is a relatively simple thing to do, although it is labor intensive. With the proper help (Squidley, Gunboat, Donde and some others) it only takes about 3 hours.
  16. Same diameter, just a little longer. fits fine...
  17. I got the whine thingy cured by turning off my hearing aids...:stirthepot:
  18. AND I have just the Classic Car for ya!!! http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php/product/2387/cat/13/date/1254784432 Let's talk...
  19. you secure it with a password, or risk all your neighbors using your "connection"!!!
  20. Have it in my RSV, with no problems. It does not have the "energy conservation" label.
  21. My , I bet if you lined up three different computers side by side and looked at the colors you'd have three different shades for the same swatch...
  22. changed the plugs in mine, this weekend. Bike has 21,500 miles on it and I don't know when or if the P.O. changed them. The 1st three I took out looked all but new. No discoloration or deposits on them. The last one (left front cylinder) looked just fine except for a dark brown discoloration on the insulator right next to the electrode tip. I went ahead and replaced all four plugs, just 'cause I had the new ones. Can't say the engine runs any better, 'cause it was running fine before. BTW, I won't have to worry about stripping the two front tank mounting bolt allen heads, anymore, thanks to Ace Hardware.
  23. Another example of dressing for the slide, not for the ride!!!
  24. Sounds like you may be lugging it! Define "under load" speed and gear. If you are expecting one of the bikes to accelerate under 60 in 5th gear, expect "pulses". At that speed you are only about 2/3s through 3rd gear's capability. Wind it up and see if you get a different feel. You can ride one of the v4s like you stole it and not hurt it!
