Goes back to my point, more than one light out front. And another thing, think of the passing lights, of what ever variety, as "backup" in case of headlight bulb failure.

I have ridden ahead of folks that have and don't have passing lights. It is amazing to me how the bike with no passing lights blends in and disappears in the mirror. The ones WITH the passing lights stand out. Forget the "looks" thingy, more lights mean you are easier to see. To me having the passing lights on ALL the time is a safety thing.

Just my with the bike on the side stand the navigator gets on first and off last. AND the comment about her being a statue at slow speeds is spot-on. My wife found out I knew of which I spoke as we went over last year at a meet in Newton MS. Thank goodness my windshield, the radio controller and my pride were the only casualties! She turned around to wave at our daughter, just as I turned into the parking area. Don't think she will make that move again!!!

Ok, best I can figure my OEM 404 had 11,000 miles on it and still had some tread left on it but was real close to the wear bars, so I had the Continental Milestone put on. Oh, found a nail in the 404, but was holding air. The Continental looks to me wider than the 404. It sure seems to ride better. I like it so far, but have only put about 150 miles on it.

Should be no problem! I'm 63 and 5'6" with a 27" inseam. Yeah, it has tipped over a couple of times, but when a 900lb bike gets to a certain point, unless you are Clark Kent/Superman, I don't care HOW big you are it is going over. AND :welcome1:to this asylum!!!

Good thing, 'cause lowering the front of a Tour Deluxe can't be done by pushing the forks up in the triple tree. The speedometer is in the way.

"Remove the screw in plug on the right side of the motor in the clutch case. .... Start the bike up with the screw in plug put back in and let run for a min." I think he is talking about the fill plug... BTW maybe because I use the "long" Purilator filter my RSV holds almost the whole gallon of Rotella synthetic. -

Ok, got the final answer from the lady at Jake Wlson. They checked and it looks like 4807 is the last time these tires were manufactured, as that is the latest date they could find. She assured me that the tire had been stored properly and they would stand behind it. Sooooo, guess I'll put it on and see what happens. I really like the looks of it. The tread grooves look like canyons and I like the 80H rating! Time will tell......

Stebel Air Horn question/discovery...

My suggestion is to disconnect factory plug from the left lower horn and re-wire it to the Stebel horn relay. Run a 14ga wire from the relay to one terminal on the left lower horn. Run another short wire from the other terminal on the left lower horn to one of the horn mounting bolts for a ground. I was amazed how much louder the stock horn was with the larger wire run to it!!! -

I have BOTH, so I know how they both run and I still think from what you are saying, there is an underlying problem, 'cause while my '98 won't run like my RSV, it is not anywhere as underpowered feeling as what you describe. Is the exhaust stock? has it been re-jetted? are the slides free? Have the needles been reset? Are there holes in the carb diaphragms? See if there is a member close to you that has a Carb Tune. BTW the carb sybc procedure in the Yammie service manual is wrong for the RSV and may be for the '96 as well. So if the dealer followed the wrong proceedure you may be worse off than before they touched it. Like I said in an earlier post you should have enough power to "dust" a Sportster, if it is running up to par.

+1 on that!!! Local dealer had no clue on how to do a carb sync and wanted me to pay them $225.00 to learn how to do it. But they HAD done one "last year". Wish you lived closer, I'd let you ride mine for comparison...

Ok, I'm wrong again, about ratios, but I know how my '98 runs and it is FAR from anemic! Ask at least one HD Sportster!!! I still say the original poster may have something robbing his bike of running like it should!!! That's my story and I'm sticking to it!!! Oh and yes I am talking about the late 90' Tour Deluxes, not the '05 and up ones.

The Royal Stars (Tour Classic and Tour Deluxe) are a little different than the RSVs. Gearing is the same, but the horse power is about 2/3s that of the RSV. So it IS a little lack luster in the acceleration in 4th and 5th when compared to the RSV. That being said, the Royal Stars WILL still go through 90 in 3rd and set you back when you shift into 4th at 96.

Sooooo, just don't shift to 5th at less than 70... :stickpoke: All joking aside, yes 5th is geared tall, but if you are having issues with it falling on it's face at 60 or so, you may have other problems. My '98 will accelerate happily from 40 in 5th if I don't give it too much throttle. If you haven't already; do a carb sync, check the air filter (yeah, the tank has to come off) run a half a can each, of Seafoam, in two tanks of gas, then change the spark plugs. If that doesn't help, check the carb diaphragms for holes. Oh,(may be a dumb question) are you sure it is running on all 4 cylinders? I'm told these engines will run well on 3 cylinders.

Ok, waited about a week too long, 'cause the price went up. I got my new Milestone in today from Jake Wilson. I had planned on putting it on tomorrow, but checked the date, 4807. What the heck this tire is 3 years old. Well I called Jake Wilson's 800 number. the lady appologized and went to check the other 5 they have in stock. Guess what, they all are dated 4807. She says she will check with their warranty guy Monday and see if the distributor has any "fresher" ones. At this point, I'm not desperate for a rear tire, and can wait, but I'm a little ticked off! What would any of you think about riding on a "new" 3 year old tire?
