  1. Wait just a minute!!! Sounds like the cart before the horse!!! Without a failure analysis HOW will they know that lack of maintenance COULD have caused this failure. What if it was a casting flaw in which ever part failed? Good or bad maintenance would not have caused nor could have prevented that failure! You need to remind then that you are innocent (covered) until proven guilty(at fault for lack of maintenance). If nothing else go back on your memory and with different pens or pencils make a list of all the services in the back cover of your owner's manual and take that too them.
  2. Never seen it done, but some folks say they can be mounted using an electrical conduit "P" clamp. On my bike, the PO welded mounting tabs to the frame rails.
  3. Ok :stickpoke: I bought my '99 a year and a half ago with 16,700 miles for $4500.00 I think THAT was a steal!!!
  4. Ya must have gotten the coil problem fixed...

  8. My Favorite Animal Our teacher asked us what our favorite animal was, and I said, "Fried chicken." She said I wasn't funny, but she couldn't have been right, because everyone else in the class laughed. My parents told me to always be truthful and honest, and I am. Fried chicken is my favorite animal. I told my dad what happened, and he said my teacher was probably a member of PETA. He said they love animals very much. I do, too. Especially chicken, pork and beef. Anyway, my teacher sent me to the principal's office. I told him what happened, and he laughed, too. Then he told me not to do it again. The next day in class my teacher asked me what my favorite live animal was. I told her it was chicken. She asked me why, just like she'd asked the other children. So I told her it was because you could make them into fried chicken. She sent me back to the principal's office again. He laughed, and told me not to do it again. I don't understand. My parents taught me to be honest, but my teacher doesn't like it when I am. Today, my teacher asked us to tell her what famous person we admire most. I told her, "Colonel Sanders." Guess where I am now...
  9. Just a thought, but to keep down any unwanted questions, you might wanna consider putting the "stockers" back on before taking it to the shop. Oh and don't ride it in, as they may say you caused extensive damage, for which they would want you to pay.
  10. 1st off , if missing an oil change at 7K was gonna be an issue, it would have shown up before 80K. 2nd, I would have to say intermingling of oil and coolant is NOT caused by lack of sufficient lubrication! (i.e. Oil quality or viscosity) 3rd, Failure to properly change oil and/or coolant cannot "blanket void" your warranty. For instance they could not cover a rod bearing failure for you not properly changing the oil, but a head gasket failure or a fuel injector failure should not/could not be ruled unwarrantable, because of failure to change you oil, because they are not related. (Yeah 10 years as a warranty manager for a Caterpillar dealer)

  12. I cut the original connectors off and added crimp on's and a 90 degree elbow. This is the twist off mount. BTW I had to stretch the springs a little to make them a little tighter, so as not to bounce off.
  13. When I bought the '98 RSTC it had a worn out 404 on the rear. Not knowing any better, I installed a new 404, cause that was what the owner's manual called for. It lasted about 6500 miles and was worn enough that I was scared of it, so I replaced it. Found two nails in it. Very seldom had to put air in it, go figure. When I got the '99 RSV it had a "down to the cord" Venom on it. Another member had given me the OEM 404 from his RSMV, that had about 5500 miles on it when he took it off to install E3's. The 404 had more than half the tread left, so being the cheap,,,, uh frugal, guy that I am I put it on the RSV. It ran another 6000 miles. At that time it still had miles left, but I was planning the ride to the M&E in Rome, so I replaced it with a new Continantal Milestone. So the after market 404 lasted about 6500 miles (RSTC is slightly lighter and I ride it solo) The OEM 404 lasted 11,500 and had miles left (RSV is loaded and 2-up about 1/2 the time)
  14. I'll post pictures later, but I got all I needed from Flying J. Seems like it cost about $70.00US. The didn't have the fold-over mounts, but did have the removable(twist off) ones. The antennas look like the Firesticks and were about the same price. I put CB ones on both sides. The CB one works fine for AM/FM. I had priced the conversion from http://www.wearecb.com/products/antenna/cb_antennas.htm but needed the stuff for a ride and didn't want to wait, so I did the Flying J. thing. At some time I may go back to We-Are-CB (CB World) for the fold over mounts.
  15. Took a ride this week to TX and back. Temps varied from the 30s to the 60s. Skies varied from clear to raining and all points in between. :rasberry::rasberry:

  20. Nope, just need to take the chrome nut off, then loosen the socket head screws clamping the the forks.
  21. This is a '98 Tour Classic II. It has the dual, not quad mufflers and the leather slant bags. I think I'm right in that the Tour Deluxe that year was virtually the same except it had leather hard bags. Does it have an emblem on both upper sides of the front fender. The emblems on my Tour Classic says just that, "Tour Classic" yours should have "Tour Deluxe" emblems.
  22. 56, man 18 is a "boy dog":headache:
