    Ok, with a few exceptions, I'm one of the smaller folks I've met riding a RSV. I'm 5'6" (if I stand up REAL straight) with a 27" inseam. I have lowered the front of my bike 1", but still cannot put both heels down at the same time 1up. So, I have no choice but to let my co-pilot mount 1st. Right after I got my RSTC we tried letting her get on 2nd. After almost turning IT over, we never tried THAT again! So, when the RSV came home with me we didn't EVEN try letting her get on 2nd. As far as having trouble getting it up off the stand 2up, I PLAN where the passenger is gonna get on. If necessary I will move the bike to a place where it is as straight up on the stand as I can get it, before the passenger gets on.

    Ok, in the last few weeks I've seen a red and black RSV in the Jackson, MS area, several times. Most times he is riding with at least one more rider, on some kind of V-Twin. Is it anyone here? When I see him it seems I'm never in a position to flag him down or catch up to him.

    Nah!!! I suspect others are like me lurking and drooling... I run Rotella (blue jug) full synthetic 5W-40 with a Pure One PL14610 filter in both my '98 RSTC and my '99 RSV (Read: now the can of worms has been reopened!!! ) I also run the Wally World 140wt full synthetic in the "Pumpkin" on both bikes. I also add about 1/4 tea spoon of Honda Moly in with it. I change the rear end oil every engine change. Just my

    A quick look at my RSV and it looks like one end fastens to the fender rail and the other to the trunk mounting bracket. It was dark when I looked so I could be wrong. If I'm right and you don't have the RSV trunk bracket, there wold be no place to attach the rear of the grab rails.

    Don't have pictures, but with the left lower off, it is at the very bottom. It is black thus hard to see. Before I wired mine to the Stebel relay all it would do is make a weak groaning noise. once I put the larger wire to it, it is really loud, for a stock horn.

    Just a thought, maybe the carb bowl has too much camp fuel in it. Drain the float bowl then let it refill and try starting it, again. Is there a fuel line to the carb that you can disconnect to see it there is fuel getting TO the carb? That would tell you about the fuel filter being plugged, or not.

    Good shift point is when the rev limiter kicks in. That's somewhere around 96 (indicated) in 3rd. Then feel it kick you on the pants when you shift to 4th...

    +1 on the speed bleeders!!! That being said, when I installed them on my RSV, the ones for all the brakes worked as advertised right out of the package, but the one for the clutch gave me a problem. The ball may have been stuck 'cause I had to get most of the air out the old fashion way. Once I got some fluid down to it, the speed bleeder started working as advertised and made finishing the job a snap. Since then I have changed the clutch fluid in a couple of other bikes, only to find out that for the most part getting all the air out of the clutch circuit takes a lot of patience (read PITA), even using a vacuum pump.

    For now, I'm lucky enough to have one of each. My '98 RSTC as Taz says is the same bike as the Boulevard. It is a little smaller than the RSV and IMHO handles a good bit easier than the RSV at low speeds. Since the seat height is inches lower, I can get both heels down and slightly bend my knees. Thus it is my bike of choice for running short, in town, errands. That is not to say it is not a "long rider"! I have made several 300+ mile per day trips on it, with no problems. I do have a Corbin seat for it as the stock factory seat sucks for long rides! My wife will ride with me on it, but does not like the fact it has no passenger grip rails. She much prefers the RSV! Now again IMHO the RSV IS a better choice as a long trip machine, for a number of reasons. One being that on the RSV (or the later RSTDs for that matter) you are way better shielded from the wind. The earlier Royal Stars do not have lower fairings. All that being said, it really depends on what your friend's expectations are for the bike. I would suspect if he looks hard enough, he can find a nice bike for way under his $6000.00 budget.
