  1. Making progress...
  2. Thanks!!! I "googled" these and found that Ace Hardware was a source. The local store was out of the Hoppy brand but had another choice, so I picked it up and got a LED trailer lighting kit from HF. (love the 20% off coupons!!!) The lights are installed and the wheels re-greased. I'm a little concerned that the bearing retainer washer is not keyed to the axles. Only the cotter key keeps the nut from turning. The nuts were a little tighter than I would like, but if I back off one slot, the nut is loose on the cotter key. Anyone double nutted these? Tested the lights on Wes' Blazer. Tomorrow gonna wire the converter to the bike. Looks like it will fit nicely next to the CB in the little black box under the trunk. Anyone else put it in that box?
  3. Well, went to NAPA and got the "Deer in the Headlights" treatment, tried Wally World and found nothing in the "Hopkins" stuff, SOooo, I guess I'll just make the trailer 5 wire. I found a 5 wire plug and some 2" square amber LEDs (for turn signals) at Wally World. Pictures as I go...
  4. Your inseam will determine wheather you want to lower the front an inch or install leveling links (raise the rear an inch). Either will make a difference in the low speed handling. As previously mentioned if the bike has Brickstone tires on it, replacing them with almost anything will improve the handling. Also, low air pressure will make it handle like a dog too.
  5. Will be putting it together this weekend. I've read of the trials and tribulations some have had with them, so I'll be paying close attention during assembly. I'd like to add the Wally World (about $35.00) led trailer taillights. I'll also be adding a 5 wire in to 4 wire harness. question is how will the bike's turn signal function react to these additions? Time permitting, before Kreg's MD I may add these running lights. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LED-Red-boat-motorcycle-truck-trailer-RV-light-99HBR-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem53e659df3aQQitemZ360346935098QQptZOtherQ5fVehicleQ5fParts
  6. Rode my RSTC to work today, parking it right by one of the employee entrances. One of my avid (50 mile/month) Hardley rider co-workers came by and told me he had one of those Stebel horns on his bike, but it keeps coming apart. I just smiled and said so far mine had not done that. didn't have the heart to tell him the Yammies don't shake things apart like the Hardleys... :stirthepot: :rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf:
  7. Bite the bullet and put the Stebel on! Also run a 16ga wire from the Stebel relay to the horn behind the left lower. The reason both stock horns sound so puny is the wire that feeds then is too small! As to why the car horn doesn't work is I suspect it is needs more amps (not a precise technical term) than the M/C horn. If that is the case the wires are REALLY too small.
  8. Rotella (blue jug) T6 here. JASO rated, readily available at Wally World and since my sone works @ Wally World I get a discount.
  9. WOW live faces for the post office wall!!! :stickpoke: :crackup::crackup::crackup::crackup:
  10. Just a thought, but what if you took just the pumpkin to the dealer? would he agree to that?
  11. Well normal for asylum residents...
  12. You know you are welcome to my trailer if needed!!!
  13. I think they ALL do that at some time or another. Probably shakes the front brake lever hard enough to "trip" the disengage switch.
  14. I have very little experience pulling a trailer, but have lots of miles on a Burgman with a Voyager kit. I had to ride it in the "middle" too. SOOOO try to remember that the "middle" is where all the oil residue resides, especially when WET!!! :yikes:
  15. I have to work all this week, but if y'all come down I-55 to US-49 and need/want a place for the night, remember we are just south of Jackson, MS!!!
  16. This morning one of my Facebook friends posted that she and hubby were at Southern Thunder Harley Davidson. (He is a big time Harley rider) Not knowing where it is I "googled" it. After I picked at her about the name of the street where it is located, VENTURE Drive, she responded "LOL" and not long after that the posting disappeared! :rotf::rotf::rotf:
  17. :yikes: $14.33 shipping:shock3:
  18. If those are good, I wonder how inserting a 12ga stainless plate on both the inside(top) and outside (bottom) will work? Pictures will follow when the water cut pieces get here...
  19. But why do you need to heat hot water?????????????????:stirthepot::stickpoke::stickpoke::rasberry::rasberry: :rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf::rotf:
  20. Seat nuts??? The only one on my bike is the 200# one that connects the seat and the handlebars!!! Hope you enjoy the bike!!! sounds like you got a deal... BTW
  21. This is what I have been thinking too. I would wonder about a switched wire feeding the #86 terminal on the relay from the BR/B (acc wire). This would be for "emergency" by-pass. This would also give the security needing the key turned to at least the ACC position before the relay could "hot-wire" the bike.
  22. Do you mean just the little screw in button or the whole switch? If the whole switch is gone, I bet it is still in the little wrap around part of the trunk, hanging on by the wires. When I bought my '99 all I could see there was a small threaded brass (looking) hole. Went to the Stealership and purchased the little button(if I remember it was less than $20.00US) and screwed it in. Problem solved. BTW if you push on the little bare brass piece you can still activate the PTT switch.
  23. If you can call a 1998 RS Tour Classic a small bike, it is my "grocery getter". The seat height is such that I can get both heels down at the same time and the (added) Venture saddle bags and trunk are empty. To me it also is more nimble "in town" than the RSV.
  24. PLEASE take her out in the passenger seat for a couple of WOT starts, to show her why she MUST NOT let any of her male friends drive it. From my experience when a girl leaves the house at night, in the car, there is no telling who will end up driving it! I've raised 2 girls, and 1 boy. Boys are MUCH easier. BTW SWEET ride!!!
