  1. Many prayers needed!!! He is 25-ish and was involved in a serious crash in the Hopkinsville, KY/Clarksville, TN area this afternoon. Not a whole lot is known, at this point, but he was Life-flighted to Vanderbilt Trauma Center in Nashville, barely hanging on. At this point he is stable, but has lost a leg and has several broken bones. He has only been riding about 3 months, on his new, to him, Honda 250 Rebel. Thanks in advance for all the prayers! Gonna be a long hard road ahead!!!
  2. Generally it is the main power contacts that "burn up" and fail, leaving the other 2 sets intact. Thus, in most cases, a bypass on that circuit is sufficient to "get you home". Even IF I were to put a bypass switch in the ignitor circuit, it would be a switch that required a key... But that is just my
  3. Don't forget the amber LED strips from Autozone...
  4. This sounds exactly like MY experience!!!
  5. Just from my experience with these folks (canadian cruiser customizing) I would never buy anything from them, but that is just me!

    Carl, Glad YOU are Ok!!!
  7. There are 3 pairs of wires. 1. Accessories (AM-FM radio, CB radio, aux power Jacks, etc) 2. All the main stuff (lights starter, etc) 3. The wires to the Ignitor unit (this is what lets the spark plugs spark) The "main stuff" contacts are generally the one that that gives trouble. If you only jumper those contacts, the starter will be able to spin the motor 'till the battery runs down and the bike will never start. You would still need the key to close the ignitor wire contacts, unless of course you have used a multi pole switch and jumpered the ignitor wires too.
  8. To do a complete bypass, on a 2nd Gen, with ONE switch you would need a triple pole single throw switch.
  9. Hi guy!!! You seemed determined to hook up your lights your way and that is your prerogative, but the bypass is for, and should be used only as, a "get home" fix for when your ignition switch fails.
  10. To answer your question; Yes you CAN. Is it advisable? NO! May be over kill, but I even put my headlight on a relay. Now my ignition switch runs a little cooler. Now by putting my passing lights on a separate relay(yes my passing lights are on anytime the ignition is on) I have two points of failure so that in the event something blows either fuse, I still have the other light/lights on. I even put a bypass switch across the headlight relay, just in case of a relay failure.
  11. While we are talking about Winders 7 and external drives, I have a 500GB WD (USB)external that works fine on my WinXP machines and even on my Win7 Home Premium Acer netbook, but when I plug it into my Win7 Pro HP desktop, I get a message that the new drive is not formatted, do I want to format it? Why would that be?
  12. Sorry Brad, he HAS "gone on". http://venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=792134#post792134
  13. Installed the new rectifier/regulator from Partshark, only to find the failed one must have cooked the battery. So with a new battery too the charging system seems to be working properly now. This brings up a thought though. Since the regulator has to dissipate the access power not used, could the fact that I've replaced some of the lights with LEDs, could there be more power "not used" than the regulator can dissipate? Or is it that it was time for the 14YO regulator to give up?
  14. Somewhere in the deep dark recesses of my feeble brain, behind lots of cobwebs, I think I remember someone saying that the early Royal Star pipes and flanges are smaller than the RSVs and the later RSTDs. Been wrong before......
  15. +1 on the Ball Allen wrenches! I bought a set from NAPA. Also when you get the bolts out, I used yellow 3M to hold the spacers in place while re-installing the light bar. Also some one told me :whistling:that it is very easy to cross thread those bolts...
  16. Sounds like you ignition switch is just about to leave you walking! IMHO, the bypass is just a "get you home" measure, not a permanent fix. I think some have done the disassemble on their switch and cleaned the contacts, but that may or may not be successful. How ever you decide to repair the situation, if you have passing lights on the bike, I'd for sure move their wiring to a dedicated relay controlled circuit, to get that load off the ignition switch. I have even put my headlight on a relay to even get THAT load off the ignition switch.
  17. The pastor of the church had a kitten that climbed up a tree in his backyard and then was afraid to come down. The pastor coaxed, offered warm milk, etc. The kitty would not come down. The tree was not sturdy enough to climb, so the pastor decided that if he tied a rope to his car and pulled it until the tree bent down, he could then reach up and get the kitten. That's what he did, all the while checking his progress in the car. He then figured if he went just a little bit further, the tree would be bent sufficiently for him to reach the kitten. But as he moved the car a little further forward, the rope broke. The tree went 'boing!' and the kitten instantly sailed through the air - out of sight. The pastor felt terrible. He walked all over the neighborhood asking people if they'd seen a little kitten. No. Nobody had seen a stray kitten. So he prayed, 'Lord, I just commit this kitten to your keeping,' and went on about his business. A few days later he was at the grocery store, and met one of his church members. He happened to look into her shopping cart and was amazed to see cat food. This woman was a cat hater and everyone knew it, so he asked her, 'Why are you buying cat food when you hate cats so much?' She replied, 'You won't believe this,' and then told him how her little girl had been begging her for a cat, but she kept refusing. Then a few days before, the child had begged again, so the Mom finally told her little girl, 'Well, if God gives you a cat, I'll let you keep it.' She told the pastor, 'I watched my child go out in the yard, get on her knees, and ask God for a cat. And really, Pastor, you won't believe this, but I saw it with my own eyes. A kitten suddenly came flying out of the blue sky, with its paws outspread, and landed right in front of her.' Lesson learned... Never underestimate the Power of God and His unique sense of humor.
  18. Ok, Good news and BAD news... I did all the checks in Jeff's T/S procedure and all checks out The good news is I found a slightly corroded/burnt connection for the black wire in the plug for the rectifier/regulator. Polished the pin and the socket and now the bike is charging the battery again!!! The bad news is that it seems to be OVER charging. The battery voltage with the engine off is 12.8. Crank the bike and have 15.2 volts at idle and 16.8 at high RPM, so NOW WHAT???
  19. Darwin Award Candidate!!!
  20. What brand are those horns and where did you get them? Larry will you be making mounting brackets?
  21. Thanks Jeff, may be a couple of weeks before I get to start this.
  22. Yep, same thing here, I ended up replacing the female half of the plug under the passenger seat. Good luck on finding one! I had to buy a MIDI extension cable from Rat Shack and cut one end off. That was fun as the color codes in the MIDI cable don't match the colors in the RSV harness.
  23. Thanks Folks!!! I'm home, after a long two days! My angel of mercy Dropped what she was doing and drove from Jackson to Batesville to pick me up last night and swapped vehicles with me. I reserved a U-haul M/C trailer for this morning but discovered that it is only 48" wide but the Voyager kit is 56" wide. My across the street neighbors have a GW trike so his trailer is plenty wide. He INSISTED that I take it. So, The borrowed GMC Envoy, the borrowed trailer and I set out for Batesville this morning. Ran through several rain showers on the way but it was not raining when I got to the bike. Went in to "pause for the cause" and you guessed it, when I came back out it was ! Got the Frogg Toggs out to try to stay kinda dry. Hooked the jumper cables to the bike from the Envoy and let the bike battery charge for about 15 minutes. Bike cranked right up and ran fine so I could load it. Tied it down (did I mention ) and headed for home. Largely uneventful trip back, other than all the way. Home safe, bike is unloaded and the trailer and Envoy both returned to their rightful owners! Now off to bed to wait for the alarm to go off at 4:45 so I can continue my retirement's part time job... :cool10:
