  1. The idea is that the headlight wire is used to control the relay. The *power* comes from a fused wire directly from the battery. This gets the load off the ignition switch.
  2. Also take a look at http://venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=426827
  3. That red/yellow wire is hard to fine and where it goes in one side of a plug it comes out a different color on the other side. http://venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=44360
  4. Mine are threaded, but broke right off the first time I put a grease gun on them... I did have to loosen the preload and repack the bearings. With the preload set properly I have pulled mine several thousand miles at interstate speeds (which I never exceed... ) and the hubs and tires are never much warmer than ambient temp.
  5. Bump!!!
  6. This may be a dumb question (I'm good a those!!!) but have you confirmed that the speakers themselves are working? Sometimes it's the REALLY SIMPLE things that bite us in the butt when we over look them...
  7. Make sure the IS fluid in the clutch master cylinder. Don't rely on the sight glass!!! Pull the top and look. The rubber seal may be sucked down making it appear there is fluid in the sight glass.
  8. As I was leaving the UPS store this afternoon, I spotted a 1st Gen pulling in an adjacent parking lot. I got there in time to meet Mike, who had not long ago rescued an 85 VR. It had been sitting out in the weather for a number of years. He has it LOOKING GOOD!!! HE said he has been a "guest" here and is considering joining. Good to meet you, Mike!!! Hope you stick around!!! Walter
  9. I didn't even consider installing the incandescent lights that came with mine. Bought the 30 something dollar LED light kit from H/F. They look identical to the ones that come with the trailer. +1 on shimming the bolts that attach the hitch to the tongue. Absolutely repack the wheel bearings and set the preload where the wheel spins freely. From the factory mine were one notch too tight. Hubs were too hot to touch after only 5 miles on the maiden test run. Also replaced the factory grease zerks. one came apart the 1st time I put a grease gun on it. I also put two 1/2" X 6" bolts vertically through the tongue and mounted a spare tire. Run 25-30psi in the tires.
  10. Bob, Coming on the RSV this time, so only the Wife is coming. Wes is out of vacation time. Kreg, we will be heading back on the 21st. Wes will not be with us, but will be here if y'all need a place to stay Saturday night. Or come on by on the return trip.
  11. Wow, Jerry!!! Sorry to hear this, anything I can do? Let us know how the surgery turns out!!!
  12. I plan to pull out for Vogel Early on the Thursday morning. Anyone coming from the west on I20 or I55 wanna meet up and ride together?
  13. You just forgot to ask him what day he was gonna start..... :stirthepot:
  14. Yeah I used a straightened out coat hanger to fish a (fused) power wire up to the fairing. Didn't have time to pull the tank right then. I did pull the tank later and ran the wire "right". Pulling the tank is really not a big deal... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=609318#post609318
  15. My daughter is bringing him up right , just wish I had been there!!!
  16. Just my scientific wild a$$ guess idea, but once loaded I air my 8" tires up until there is no noticeable sidewall flex. So far that has worked out to 25 to 30psi. I suspect at 60psi you would think you were dribbling a basket ball behind the scoot... JMHO
  17. Yes the seat and tank have to come off, but that is not a big deal! I my miss something, but some of the more experienced folks will jump in... 1. remove the driver's seat by using a 10mm socket to remove the two nuts(if they are even there) on either side of the front of the seat. the seat lifts up from the front. There is a tab in the rear. 2. once the seat is off you will see a bolt at the rear of the tank that takes a 12mm socket to remove. This is one of only 3 fasteners holding the tank. Remove it. The other two fasteners are on either side under the front of the tank, by the steering head. There may be black rubber covers over them. If the PO has not replaced them with hex head cap screws, a good idea, it will take a 5mm(I think) Allen wrench. Be Very careful removing them as they are soft easily stripped with the Allen wrench. Remove both of them. 3. Remove the two socket head bolts holding the dress up cover around the gas cap. Once they are removed, lift the cover and pull back on it. There is a pin on the front of the cover which is held in by a rubber grommet. 4. Once the cover is removed, disconnect the electrical connector and the vent tube 5. Under the left center of the tank, turn the fuel selector to OFF and then disconnect the fuel line. Expect a small amount of gas to run out! 6. If I haven't missed anything, lift the tank off the bike. Oh you did run it low on gas didn't you? Yeah 6 gallons of gas is heavy!!! Install it in reverse order... Have fun!!!
  18. Are we having a Tupperware party??? :stirthepot: :rotf::rotf::rotf:

  20. He's welcome here on the return trip....
  21. For that price I've ordered one. I just hope it doesn't suffer the same fate as the Garmin I ordered from WOOT a couple of months ago. It got lost in the "hand-off" from FedEx to USPS. At least WOOT was "Johnny on the spot" giving me a refund.

  25. Don't know if it would help to mention that is a CLASSIC ANTIQUE and all you want is for it to be put back in the condition it was in before their client ran into you. Also, for real, if he hit you that hard it may take a bit for whiplash to show up! Don't be too quick to tell anybody "I'm not hurt". (I'm not a lawyer, but have been told that by a lawyer.)
