  1. Going WAY back in the recesses of my feeble brain; Point gap is really critical on these small engines. I can't tell on this one, but I suspect the timing plate(where the points are mounted) is not adjustable, so the point gap determines not only the dwell, but the timing as well. The gap is best adjusted using a battery powered circuit tester. Put the tester across the points. when the points are closed, the test light is on. Turn the engine in direction of rotation toward TDC of the compression stroke. Just when the timing marks line up, the points should open and the test light goes out. Narrowing the gap retards the timing, increasing the gap advances the timing. Hope this procedure works on this engine, like it did on the ones I worked on in the late 1960s.
  2. Where???

  4. I've never made THIS bearing replacement repair, but I wonder if the old "race in dry ice overnight" trick would let the race just slip into place?
  5. Nah, you KNOW he wouldn't do THAT!!!!! :rotf::rotf:
  6. He's still around, but on Facebook. Something or someone upset him here. I think he'll be back, eventually. He had a minor woops-a-dent on his RSV, late last year, but it is fixed and back on the road.
  7. THIS is why when I installed the Stebel horn on my RSV that I ran a larger wire from the relay to the horn behind the left fairing. I also used a larger wire to ground it right to one of the mounting bolts.
  8. Morris , an 82 year-old man, went to the doctor to get a physical. A few days later, the doctor saw Morris walking down the street with a gorgeous young woman on his arm. A couple of days later, the doctor spoke to Morris and said, 'You're really doing great, aren't you?' Morris replied, 'Just doing what you said, Doc: 'Get a hot mamma and be cheerful.'' The doctor said, 'I didn't say that.. I said, 'You've got a heart murmur; be careful..
  9. Sorry, I couldn't be so lucky!!! I just hope I can get to the leak by enlarging the cut out for the P-trap for the shower drain!!! Otherwise I'll have to take the shower stall out. Oh and this morning the wife went to the Dr. with infection in both ears AND tonight Wes ran my Caprice out of gas. The good news in THAT story is he hadn't made it out of the driveway.
  10. Legs and arms are a little short yet, but he's getting there!!! He found the (Stebel) horn button :banana: https://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=3249687484592

  15. Thought I had a buyer for my motor home coming by. So went to clean it up and check out everything. All went OK 'til I turned on the fresh water pump. Pump pumped up and quit, then started pulsing. Now I hear a hissing noise behind the shower wall! Ok, just another thing to add to my "list", no biggy:( But now Darn-it!!!! chances are up to 30% Friday
  16. I'd be interested in pictures of what you did to the shield...
  17. It's not THAT far Once you get to my house :rasberry::rasberry:
  18. I didn't name names!!!!!! :stirthepot: :crackup::crackup::crackup::crackup:
  19. Get my cell number off my profile and gimme a shout on your way through the Jackson, MS area. One word of caution about "The Trace", It is a federal park and the speed limits ARE the limit, no "cushion"! The Rangers don't play!!! Oh and watch out for Bambi, especially after dark.
  20. AND what's HER name too!!! Although she hasn't said much lately!!! :rotf:
  21. I know which Stealership you probably went to... Gimme a call sometime, my # is in my profile. Yeah I think you got "beat up" pretty bad, but don't take all the comments personally!!! We live and learn. Right after I got my Royal Star, I took it up there, not knowing better, and they thought they could possibly do a carb sync for $225.00. I didn't fall for it and have since learned that is a 30 minute job, including a coffee break! This is a GREAT bunch but will (in fun) bust your chops at a moments notice, but in that same moment move heaven and earth to help you when the need arises!!! Check your calendar for the last weekend in March! Ride with me to the MD in Texas!!! Walter
  22. Mike, the last weekend in March is more than enough time to make the miles to Doodle's MD. I bet someone there can fix you right up!get the hammer Don!!! Heck I got a place for ya to stop over on the way, then we'll ride over together.
  23. We are in the city limits here too, so no fire arms, but I continue to be amazed at what a loud POP an armadillo makes when he trips over one of the landscape timbers around my wife's flower beds. AND it seems that stubbing his toe turns out to be a fatal act. Wife seems to think the 550 Remington and LR-HPs have something to do with it...
