Hi Don!!! Plans are now to ride the RSV up there, weather permitting. Otherwise we may just cage it. I really cannot see putting Wes in any really crappy weather. Forcast for Wed here has gone from 20% chance of rain showers to 30+% chance of thunder showers.

Carry a first Aid kit and don't trust PO mods.
wes0778 replied to etcswjoe's topic in Lessons Learned
I have a pretty good size F/A kit I think my wife got at Wally World. We also have a CPR mask in with it. I wish I could find a small "First Aid Kit Inside" decal for the saddle bag lid. I probably just have not looked hard enough... -
Gary, it is the OWNER'S manual we are trying to unlock. The file, "Venture Owner's manual.pdf" is dated 9/28/2009 and is only 10,131Kb.

My ADOBE(not "reader") 6.0 is the full pro version. I also have Reader 10. With either version when I try to enable "Printing" the password box pops up.

I have the RSV Owner's manual in PDF format. Not sure where I got it, but I just tried to print several pages, via ADOBE 6.0, but found that printing is not allowed and the security is password protected. Anyone know the password or know how to "crack" it?

Push the "Select" button on the radio controller several times until you see "IC" in the window. Then press the UP Arrow or DOWN arrow to turn the Intercom volume up or down. This is also is where you set BASS, TREBLE and FRONT/REAR fader. The "AV" is "Auto Volume". This automatically increases the headset/speaker volume as the bike speeds up and decreases it as the bike slows down.

Dave, I could be wrong, but I think the guard mentioned here is for the 1996-2000 Royal Stars. This is the guard I bought for my 1998 RSTC II. It would interfere with the lowers and air filters on the 2005 and up Tour Deluxes. Walter

Ok, Got the bike up and got the pumpkin off. Splines to the u-joint aren't completely dry, but, not much grease on them. Next question is how much pressure should it take to pull the drive shaft out of the pinion?

No not VRO!!! We are leaving home, Wednesday May 30th, headed to Maintenance Day. We plan to stay with relatives in Hopkinsville, KY that Wednesday night. Thursday morning, we plan to meet B2Mom and Dad somewhere east of exit 38 on the Western Ky Parkway. We will probably stop for the night Thursday "somewhere" north of Louisville and ride to Oberlin Friday morning. Anybody wanna tag along???

Left the motel this morning about 10:30 and after an enjoyable and uneventful trip, rolled in our driveway at 4:45. Hot and tired, but had a WONDERFUL time. Don and Patti for a wonderful event!!!!! :thumbsup2::clap2::clap2:

Hard bags anyone?
wes0778 replied to MSTour's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Not sure about the '96s, but the Venture bags were a direct swap fit on my '98 RSTC II, which has a 4 into 2 exhaust and came with soft leather slant bags. -
Wonder if Ride-On would have taken care of it? I just put it in the tires on the RSV and my trailer.

Who had done 800 to 1000 miles without a lay over.
wes0778 replied to GolfVenture's topic in Watering Hole
From Elyra (MD 2011) to home 960 miles in about 18 hours. Reds were in town, in Cincinnati, so it took about 45 minutes to get past the stadium and through the tunnel. Took a little detour in KY, just to get off "the slab". Don't think I wanna do that again. -
I put 3oz of Ride-On in mine and it "seems" to have smoothed the little wheels out.
-
Is the front end lowered? Maybe the bike does not like the narrow 130 tire, as compared to the stock 150?

Ok, Getting ready to put a bunch of miles on the Tag-Along in the next few weeks, so time to get rid of the crappy Chinese bearings. They have probably 6000-7000 miles on them. I took the wheels off and removed the old bearings, only to find they look almost perfect. As mentioned in a post a good while back, the seals were still leaking, probably due to the lack of polishing of the sealing surface, on the axle, during manufacturing. This seems to not be a problem as both wheels were still completely full of grease. The Honda Moly was a lot more "liquid" than when I put it in there, but was evidently doing its' job, very well. Oh well, I have new Timken bearings, along with new seals, on order from Motion Industries, here in Jackson, MS. All should be here in the morning. Fore those interested; The bearing part # is 30205M (It is a cup and cone set) $18.15/Set The seal part # is 30 X 52 X 10 A-NBR $ 2.18/Each Gonna pick them up in the morning and go two blocks down and get a couple of pounds of dry ice. :cool10: Oh and go by and pick up a new tube of Honda Moly from BigBoyinMS

If you don't do ANYTHING ELSE, take the wheels off and REPACK the wheel bearings. Then set the pre-load properly. Also if your trailer is the H/F "Tag Along" replace the grease zerk fittings if they have not already fallen off. My thoughts on the lights are replace them with the H/F LED (http://www.harborfreight.com/automotive-motorcycle/trailer-lights/led-trailer-light-kit-95974.html) kit as soon as you can. The stock lights ARE sufficient, but will add electrical load to the bike's wiring. You will need a 5-wire to 4-wire adapter either way. I run 20-25 pounds of air in the tires on my Tag Along and probably haul way too much weight, but almost don't notice it is back there. I just put Ride-On in the bike tires and had some left over and thought "what the heck" and put 3ozs in each of the trailer tires. that seems to have smoothed the trailer out even more. If you ride 2-up AND pull the trailer, you might also wanna consider the Skydoc clutch upgrade. Oh, also spare tire..... Lights I've added http://venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=67899

Dunlop E-3 MV85-15 rear tire
wes0778 replied to clarkrcdc's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
This is where I bought mine; http://www.jakewilson.com/p/52/-/343/750/-/19446/Dunlop-Elite-3-Bias-Ply-Touring-Rear-Motorcycle-Tire/ELITE+3+REAR+TIRE -
Hmmm, just a thought, but your master cylinder is not over full is it? If it is over full, heat causes the trapped fluid to expand and that will partially disengage the clutch, causing slippage.

Nope, been using the PureONE filters since I got the bikes. The PL14612 is a little shorter and easier to install and remove
