As all have said, THANKS to Don and Eileen for putting up with the invasion again for another year!!! Wes and I made it to Hopkinsville, KY about 7:00CDT. We plan to make the rest of the journey home Monday. Wish I wasn't so bad remembering names, maybe next year we should write our names on our foreheads for all to see! Peggy I think I saw that "Yammer imposter" in several places this weekend...

Clutch bleeding problem? HELP!
wes0778 replied to cc4600's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Just my , but If you do use a vacuum bleeder, it has been my experience, that they work better if you 1st put Teflon tape in the bleeder screw threads. This keeps from sucking air around the threads, so you can actually tell when all the air is out of the system. -
Harbor Freight tag along trailer question
wes0778 replied to midnightrider1300's topic in Trailer Talk
Don't want to say it very loud, but the original 8" tires on my Tag Along have something over 13,000 miles on them. and depending on how they look, tomorrow, I'll be running them back home (930 miles) from MD. I did change the wheel bearings last month, but the originals were in almost perfect shape. I did put 3ozs of Ride-On in them and that seems to have taken some of the bounce out of the trailer. -
aux. power coming on with key off
wes0778 replied to evans's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Check to be sure you turned the switch ALL THE WAY off. The key will come out of mine with the switch in ANY position. Don't know how many times I have removed the key only to realize the switch is still in the ACC position. -
Darn, I thought I got here 1st!!!

I need OEM muffler gaskets
wes0778 replied to Rick King's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I bought mine from my local stealer. Best I remember even without any discount they were less than a discounted set + shipping. You might wanna call Chad @ Pioneer Motorsports 716 496-8815. Tell him you are a Venture Rider.- 5 replies

We'll be leaving Hopkinsville, KY Thursday morning, taking the Western KY Parkway to Elizabethtown. 1st question is would I-65 to Louisville and I-71 be better than continuing on the Bluegrass Parkway to Lexington and I-75 north? 2nd question is what about taking US-27 out of Lexington to US-62 to meet I-71 south of Columbus, OH, thus by-passing Cincinnati?

Not to cut Pioneer Motorsports out, but order online (I use Jake Wilson) and hav it shipped to Freebirds. You can bet you won't be the only one!!!

Musta been on sale but I got a PureONE PL14612 from advance Auto Parts for $5.00 + tax, yesterday.

Brian, can't answer as to WHY, but on my bike 80 indicated has translated to 73 on the GPS and it is still this way. From what I'm told the RSV final has 10 teeth on the pinion and the VMAX has 9. Maybe it is just a weird coincidence that the reduction in road speed matches the increase in drive shaft speed divided by 9.
-
Well 30 miles on it, 20 of it on the super slab. IR gun reads 140-152 degrees F. Not sure what it should be but that does not seem TOO hot, for a gear box. Speedo is right where it was; Bike says 80, GPS says 73. Haven't checked the odometer, yet. So far I love what it has done for the bike! Now I have a true 1st gear!!! The only thing is I'll have to get used to the increased rpms in 5th. Right now, in 5th, it feels like I need to shift again. Gonna let it cool off, drain the oil, and see what might be on the magnetic plug.
-
I'll recheck it, but with the engine off I can turn the rear wheel in neutral, but in gear it will not turn. With the engine running, I can shift into 2nd and stall the engine with the rear brake. Would it act like that if the drive shaft missed the U-joint?
-
It is a lower ratio. Should make for less down shifting when I'm pulling my overloaded trailer. Engine will be turning 400-500rpm faster @ 70 mph.

Well the bike is back together, but still on the stand. I'll ride it tomorrow, to check it out, but there is a clunking noise that sounds like the gears may not be setup correctly. OR it may be something I have done. I had a heck of a time getting the wheel up and into the splines in the final drive. Not easy by myself. I knew that "Murphy" was lurking around when, 1st try, I stabbed the drive shaft into the u-joint. That was too easy..... something later would more than likely go wrong!!!

Yep, just came in to confirm torque specs
-
GARAGE??? Nope just a shade tree and a fan.
-
geared final drive just arrived from http://rmsportmax.com/gateway.html Thank you John for all you had to do, yesterday, to get it out to me!!! Now gotta get it installed!!!

Wish I could go, but we are getting the bike ready for the trip to Freebird's next week. You may already know, but be careful on "The Trace"! the speed limits are STRICTLY enforced and 1mph over the limit will in most cases get you a ticket. Also watch out for the 4-legged residents! Sounds like a fun trip, though.

I have the same water resistant mount shown in post #2. I found a used Garmin Nuvi 225 on Fleabay for, best I remember, about $100.00. I cut some foam packaging to center it in the zip up case. That makes it mostly "glove friendly" to use. It is hard to see if the sun is behind you as there is some reflection on the plastic opening. I later bought a refurbished TOM-TOM XL350, thinking since it had a current map and was a little larger than the Garmin it would be better. WRONG!!! I went back to the Garmin as it works better in the mount when I have gloves on. Also and most important is that the Garmin will automatically power up and power down when I turn the ignition on. The TOM-TOM will not, and it is tough to turn the TOM-TOM on and off with out unzipping the case. just my
