Thanks for the offers on the cut-downs,, but I like the taller shields. I will wait til I stumble on one of those

It looks like I am going to need a stock winshield. Does anyone have one for sale?? Thanks

Don. When you put your Flanders bars on did you have to swap out the throttle cables AND the hydraulic hoses? And where did you get these items? My local dealer does not have any extra length cables for the Venture. But then they have a tendency to stick with just a couple of suppliers. Thanks

I must confess. I dropped my RSV, HARD.

Kit. I may want some new mufflers. I have scraped mine up pretty bad since I lowered the rear end. I am gonna take the lowering kit off when I start repairing the bike. However I do want to look for a pair of Tour Deluxe mufflers so I can use the slash tips. I think these look much better than the stock Venture pipes. If the others are hard to find I will give you a holler. Thanks -

I agree with the posts about using the front brake. I am usually a "front brake" terror. I very seldom use the rear brake. I have learned that when I am in the wiggles that using a small amout of rear break and keeping the RPMs up helps with the cornering. But I am usually doing this while riding more agressively than I was the day of the wreck. I think I have learned a valuable lesson. Save the rear brake for the Dragon and keep on pounding the front. Thanks to everyone for the comments. -
Could somone give me the model or style number of the Flander's replacement handle bars. I believe I want to go back with them when I replace the damaged ones. Also, is it necessary to use longer brake and clutch lines and throttle cables to go with the Flander's bars? Thanks

I spoke with a friend that is a State Farm agent. He stated that State Farm could now provide full coverage for vehicles and motorcycles that have been damaged and rebuilt. I am having my current carrier check with thier underwriter to make sure they wont cover it once it is rebuilt. If worse comes to worse I will ride the bike and carry the collison insurance myself. That is what insurance is all about anyway, risk assessment and management.

The insurance company is going to total out my ride. It seems that it falls into the 75% bracket. The only problem I have with it is the insurance company will no longer allow me to purchase collision insurance. With that thought in mind it makes me wonder if I should strip my stuff off and let it go. Has anyone ever purchased a bike with a salvage title?? If so, what are the problems that go along with it? The only thing hurt, other than the handle bars, are the plastics, fairings, saddle bag, trunk, ect.. I hate to let a good ride go for only $1,600 more than they will give me if I keep it... One thing, I have no plans on trading up until Yahama comes out with a EFI system. By that time it may qualify for a museum.

It as a nice warn, sunny afternoon on Novervember 1st when I started down a long, winding hill running about 25 mph. Suddenly, I realize some big dude is standing over me asking me what day it is. I finally gather enough strength to tell him to go ask sombody that cares. I just wanted to sleep for a bit longer. It seems that as I was going down the hill using my rear brake to slow me, I hit a bump in the road that made me mash my rear brake pedal more than gently. This started a slide that I did not recover from. The bike "highsided" and threw me over the guard rail to land on a steep bank on my back. The bike went over on it's right side, slid backwards for about 20 ft the came to a rest next to the guard rail. It felt strange to wake up, look at the bike, and realize it was going the wrong direction and was on the wrong side to have been making the turn I was making. Fortunately. the damage to me was minor. I can thank My Lord and the riding gear and helmet for protecting me. Other than a mild concussion and a very sore and bruised back I am OK. The bike on the other hand did not fare well. I was surprised at the small amount of damage that turned into a $7,800 (US) estimate. Because this is over 75% of the listed value of the bike, the insurance company is going to total it. I was offered what I thought was a very fair settlement and I could keep the bike. So this is what I plan on doing. The majority of the parts I will clean up and continue to use since they are only minor scratches on them. But there are a couple of major parts that i would like to replace with new ones. I will list these in another thread to see you anyone has some stock parts that they would like to get rid of. I know everyone in here shares a bit of the pain when a Venture Rider goes down so I want to thank each of you in advance for your prayers and "Get Well Wishes". From the deepest reaches of my heart, THANK YOU to each and every one of you.

The solution to this problem is simple. Take your 4,000 pound car and run over the 400 pound bike. If the driver of the bike is hurt, then shame on him. He should not have been misbehaving. There wouldn't have to be many bikers strown on the road before the rest of the punks get the idea. I'm sorry if I offened anyone with this statement. But it really makes me irate when "bikers" pull these kind of stunts and give the rest of the law abiding riders a bad name.

This issue is the very reason that I buy 95% of my parts through my local dealer. I know the people out there and when I need help they are very willing to do anything they can to help. They know I buy my parts from them so I do get a small discount on what I buy. If there is a problem, they take care of it. Sure I could save a few bucks on my tires and batteries. But they need the local support to keep the lights on so I am willing to do this. I like having a local store to shop in.

Eric. Would you mind letting us know which LEDs you used? And the supplier as well. I have been looking at some for some time and I think changing them will make a great winter project.

Kirk,, You might think about having your front tire balanced.. The vibration from the tire could travel up the forks to the handlebars...

I put a Carolina Leatherworks bag on my ride. It does block a little bit of the view but the storage room is worth it. Before I installed the bag I put a peice of felt on the dashboard to prevent it from getting scuffed up,

Let us know what the price of the backrest is going to be...

Uhhhh Charlie. I don't want to be the one that splits frog hairs on here but that license plate sure looks blue and white to me. Are you sure you are not going colorblind???????? But that frame around it sure looks good......

I really like the way the way the bike looks with the trunk off. I would like to try it but I have one little problem. The Warden would absolutely KILL me if I took her backrest off, even for a solo ride. And since she is the head Queen around my house, the trunk will stay on.....

Darn Dan. I was hoping you were gonna say the the METH HEAD blew himself up with his house. I'm kinda disappointed. Glad to hear that you are free of him however you had to do it.

I have only used Yama-Lube in my ride, 48K miles, and I have some clutch slippage if I shift too hard from 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd. Of course I can be an agressive rider sometimes .. Thinking very seriously about a Barnett upgrade this winter. It would make a nice Christmas present for the wife. Of course I would have to get the "Gold Plated" model... She does seem to get upset when I make it pull the front wheel off the ground in 2nd..... Hmmmmm wonder if that is why the clutch slips some....

I purchased a stop/run LED from Custom Dynamics, www.customdynamics.com , to replace the reflector over my tail light. It is the Knight Ryder sequential light bar. The LEDs run from one side to the other in run, then flashes 5 or 6 times when you hit the brakes before burning steady. It is a very bright light and for $27 I thought it was a good buy. They also have a non-sequential light bar as well. They also have the LED boards for the tail light. It is such an improvement over a light bulb that several of my friends have gone to using them as well. I have bought several lights from Custom Dynamics and have been more than pleased with both the product and the service. I do cheat though. I order everything through our local Yahama dealer so I dont have to pay the freight. Next on the list are the LED turn signals:thumbsup2:.

I saw a Kawasaki Nomad with an aftermarket fairing and a Venture trunk. It looked pretty good. I had fun arguing with my buddy about what kind of bike it was. Of course the saddlebags gave it away pretty quickly.
