I drained mine and pulled all of the plugs to get it all out in one shot. It is pretty simple and the directions are very clear in the repair manual. I used Prestone antifreeze as well but mixed it 50-50 with distilled water. Distilled water won't corrode the aluminum as bad as tap water.

I posted an ad in the Classifieds for a 01 Kawasaki Nomad 1500 I am offering for sale. If anyone is interested in one it is a very good bike. I will post some pics of it when I get home.

Just a good quality 15 amp toggle switch will be fine. This can be purchased at most any auto parts store. They should have a rubber boot to screw on after the switch is mounted. A word of caution. Be sure and use an all metal switch. Some of then that have plastic levers can be pretty cheaply made. I hooked mine up on a dedicated circut, but put a relay that allows me to use the passing lamps on low beam only and then go off when I switch to high beams. I also mounted my off-on switch right beside the lighter plug for those times I dont want to use them.

I see the electronics ad didn't last long. Good job to the moderators.

The rear brake is sensitive for several reasons. One is if you use your front brake first the weight of your bike will shift to the front tire. This allows the rear tire to lock up easier due to having less weight on it. The second one I can think of right off is we often downshift and use the rear brake at the same time. This has the same result as applyng more brake. There are two rotors on the front wheel and one on the rear for a reason. Cruisers and Tour bikes are designed to be stopped by the front tire. I know we have heard of all the stories of people going over the handlebars because they used too much front brake. Trust me, this will not happen on a Venture or any other cruiser I have ever ridden. There is just too much weight on the rear end. I have made some serious stops using my front brakes and I have never been able to slide the front tire. This may be due to the extra weight I carry in my front end. And I have had the rear come around some while making what I thought was gentle stops. I even had an accident in November because I alowed the rear brake to lock up while going down a hill. I have not adjusted the brake pedal, but I can't imagine that it would change anything. There is a member that sells a brake attachment that prevents the pedal from being so firm. It sounds good in theory, but I have never tried one of them. After I get the bike back together I may have to though. I hope I have totally confused you by now.

We adopted 2 dogs from the local animal shelter with wonderful luck. the first was a female pup that turned out to be part poodle, part daschound. She is a very loving and tender dog, especially around children. The second was an older male poodle that now rules the roost.(when the female let's him) They have both turned into the most wonderful lap dogs that a person could ever want. Oh, did I mention that the female loves to ride the motorcycle with me.

To brighten up my headlight I stopped at the parts store and picked up a H-4 Super Bright repacement bulb. There are several different types and wattages available. I chose the highest wattage available.

Tim,, Dakotasport. I am interested in some of the Midnight parts you have for sale. I am at work and cannot access e-bay or my e-mail from here. Please send me a PM with a contact number so I can discuss purchasing these parts. Thanks Steve

Eck Thanks a lot for checking. I've checked the site a couple of times as well as the classified section. It looks like I may have to buy new. I can't seem to find a salvage yard that has these parts either.

Rich. I'm glad to hear that you are doing well. It's a scarey thing to take a tumble like that. Also I hope the knee heals without surgery. Good luck on choosing the new ride. God be with you.

Be Smart. Dont sign ANYTHING until your leg is completely healed and you have a release from the doctor AND you have the money in hand to fix the ride. Hope the leg heals quickly.

Ok Bob. I wont be back up and running before Christmas anyway. Thanks

It looks like I am going to need a stock winshield. Does anyone have one for sale?? Thanks

Don. When you put your Flanders bars on did you have to swap out the throttle cables AND the hydraulic hoses? And where did you get these items? My local dealer does not have any extra length cables for the Venture. But then they have a tendency to stick with just a couple of suppliers. Thanks

I must confess. I dropped my RSV, HARD.

Kit. I may want some new mufflers. I have scraped mine up pretty bad since I lowered the rear end. I am gonna take the lowering kit off when I start repairing the bike. However I do want to look for a pair of Tour Deluxe mufflers so I can use the slash tips. I think these look much better than the stock Venture pipes. If the others are hard to find I will give you a holler. Thanks -

I agree with the posts about using the front brake. I am usually a "front brake" terror. I very seldom use the rear brake. I have learned that when I am in the wiggles that using a small amout of rear break and keeping the RPMs up helps with the cornering. But I am usually doing this while riding more agressively than I was the day of the wreck. I think I have learned a valuable lesson. Save the rear brake for the Dragon and keep on pounding the front. Thanks to everyone for the comments. -
Could somone give me the model or style number of the Flander's replacement handle bars. I believe I want to go back with them when I replace the damaged ones. Also, is it necessary to use longer brake and clutch lines and throttle cables to go with the Flander's bars? Thanks

I spoke with a friend that is a State Farm agent. He stated that State Farm could now provide full coverage for vehicles and motorcycles that have been damaged and rebuilt. I am having my current carrier check with thier underwriter to make sure they wont cover it once it is rebuilt. If worse comes to worse I will ride the bike and carry the collison insurance myself. That is what insurance is all about anyway, risk assessment and management.

The insurance company is going to total out my ride. It seems that it falls into the 75% bracket. The only problem I have with it is the insurance company will no longer allow me to purchase collision insurance. With that thought in mind it makes me wonder if I should strip my stuff off and let it go. Has anyone ever purchased a bike with a salvage title?? If so, what are the problems that go along with it? The only thing hurt, other than the handle bars, are the plastics, fairings, saddle bag, trunk, ect.. I hate to let a good ride go for only $1,600 more than they will give me if I keep it... One thing, I have no plans on trading up until Yahama comes out with a EFI system. By that time it may qualify for a museum.

It as a nice warn, sunny afternoon on Novervember 1st when I started down a long, winding hill running about 25 mph. Suddenly, I realize some big dude is standing over me asking me what day it is. I finally gather enough strength to tell him to go ask sombody that cares. I just wanted to sleep for a bit longer. It seems that as I was going down the hill using my rear brake to slow me, I hit a bump in the road that made me mash my rear brake pedal more than gently. This started a slide that I did not recover from. The bike "highsided" and threw me over the guard rail to land on a steep bank on my back. The bike went over on it's right side, slid backwards for about 20 ft the came to a rest next to the guard rail. It felt strange to wake up, look at the bike, and realize it was going the wrong direction and was on the wrong side to have been making the turn I was making. Fortunately. the damage to me was minor. I can thank My Lord and the riding gear and helmet for protecting me. Other than a mild concussion and a very sore and bruised back I am OK. The bike on the other hand did not fare well. I was surprised at the small amount of damage that turned into a $7,800 (US) estimate. Because this is over 75% of the listed value of the bike, the insurance company is going to total it. I was offered what I thought was a very fair settlement and I could keep the bike. So this is what I plan on doing. The majority of the parts I will clean up and continue to use since they are only minor scratches on them. But there are a couple of major parts that i would like to replace with new ones. I will list these in another thread to see you anyone has some stock parts that they would like to get rid of. I know everyone in here shares a bit of the pain when a Venture Rider goes down so I want to thank each of you in advance for your prayers and "Get Well Wishes". From the deepest reaches of my heart, THANK YOU to each and every one of you.
