  1. We don't need inspections in KY, we have the jelly...
  2. If the Alaska oil fields were opened to drilling there would be an immediate increase in oil production by the OPEC countries. The countries that collectively determine how much oil is pumped and released do not want the U.S. fields to be opened. Opening the U.S. fields would stop our dependence on foriegn oil in just a few short years. Along with drilling in U.S. fields there would need to be an increase in the number of refineries in the U.S.. These could be built within the time frame that exploration and drilling is done. However, we, the citizens of the U.S. have not yet lynched enough POLITICIANS and BIG OIL executivies to make this process start. The one problem that we have that would stop the drilling and refining from being the immediate answer is the weakness of the American dollar. Until the U.S. dollar regains it's buying strength we will continue to suffer with the high cost of ALL of our products. And you can sure bet that our employers will not match the increase of our wages to the increase of inflation. Just my penny's worth.
  3. It doesn't matter which lift you use as long as you get a lift stand from Carbon One. It are listed in the classifieds and is the best thing since sliced bread. I had the lifting kit with my jack to pick the RSV up. It worked OK, but it was a pain to get the bike balanced. With the lift stand you can pick the bike up and then put the legs under the stand and have a VERY steady bike when you do your work. Good luck with whichever you choose.
  4. I keep my feet out on the road pegs most of the time. When I up-shift I just shift my foot back and stomp with my heel. Same with down shift, I let gravity help. (I'm lazy like that)
  5. As long as the bolts that attach the hitch are kept tight there will not be enough shearing force to break them. If you are concerned, just swap em out with grade 8, locktite em good and put the wrench to em. The cooler rack wont have near the jolting force that a trailer will and I've not heard of anyone breaking them with a trailer. Just my nickel's worth.
  6. I switched to Sonic Springs and 10 wt oil for a stiffer "front end". The Warden seems to like it better...
  7. It is very evident to my untrained eye that someone has way too much "light" time on thier hands. Or maybe that is why he/she is changing light bulbs, or is it lightbulbs? We can only pray for good weather so we ALL can get out riding and not have to suffer this abuse at the hands of the leisure few. :stirthepot: :stirthepot:
  8. Can I say E F I.......:thumbsup2: :thumbsup2::thumbsup2:
  9. I even asked the Warden if she blocked the site from me...
  10. I'm glad you make it home safely. It was a pleasure to read your posts as you made your trip. Maybe I will be lucky enough to be able to talk trips with you over coffee sometime.
  11. Bumping this back up. I'm going to lsit these in the classified section along with a winshield bag from Carolina Leather.
  12. THESE HAVE BEEN SOLD ALREADY. Thanks to everyone that responded so quickly. I have replaced my stock bars with Flandes bars. I now have a set of Barons' 1 1/2 inch risers for sale. Rsv Top Speed?

I've had mine over to the 3/4 mark on the gas gauge. I would say somewhere in the "losing my license for 6 months range":crying:. But it's fast enough to make a buddy with an 1800 VTX eat his words... Don, my rev limiter kicks in at around 105-110 in 4th. I'm still climbing in 5th til the wind resistance gets to be too much.
  14. This place should be nicknamed The Hotel California. You can check out but you can never leave. You will always be a part of the group no matter if you ride or not.
  15. I have never owned a Road Star, but my buddy rides one. I can let him take off, catch him, then move ahead, slow down, move ahead, slow down, move ahead, slow down... ( I like watching him wave at me:innocent:) I hope you are getting the picture here. From a dead take off with me being 2 up and him solo, he never has a chance. In less than a bike length I am pulling away. And this is a man that has raced dirt bikes and ridden 350k road miles over the last 15 yrs, so he knows how to make the Road Star run. We did try a little experiment with me on the Venture and him in his Firebird with the LS1 engine. (350 HP stock). I got him out of the hole and could hold him off til I went into 3rd gear:confused24:. After that he just had too much torque.
  16. The one from Northern Tools just is heavy enough. Put some plywood on the floor and strap her down. I wouldn't want to haul it every day on it, but it will do what you want.
  17. I took the little black couplings out until I got mine screwed on. Be careful though they are very light plastic. DO NOT cross thread them when you screw em back in. Good Luck
  18. I wasn't aware that such a critter existed. I will have to check it out.
  19. Hell Friends. Well I finally got home Thursday morning after being gone working for 38 days. After a short nap I took my paperwork to the courthouse and got the Black Beast relicensed.( I had to apply for a rebuild title). I slapped the license plate on, fired her off and went for a 3 hr cruise. Boy did it feel GOOOOOOD to be back on her. As good a bike as the Nomad is it just doesn't compare to a RSV. A couple of the changes that I made that I was wondering about were the handle bars and the front fork springs. I put a set of Flander's bars on and man what a difference. I had the 1 1/2 inch Baron's risers on but these bars are so much better there is no comparison. This should be the bars that Yamaha uses as stock. I cant wait il I can go on an all day run to see how good I will feel. The fork springs were changed out for a set of firmer springs from Sonic Springs. Since I am an agressive rider I wanted a little firmer front fork. I also changed out the fork oil to 10 w oil. Boy did I get a firmer front end. I drove hard down into a couple of corners just to see what would happen when I laid on the front brake. It was amazing. The bike did not try to stand up at all. And the ride??? With 6 lbs of air in the front shocks, I did add a air balance kit also, it rode as smooth and soft as it did when it was new. I took out the rear lowering links and went back to stock when I changed out the rear brake line. I'm not totally happy with the way it sits so I am going to make a set of links that are half way between stock and the Baron's set. When I rode 2 up the mufflers would drag way too much to suit me. I even pumped the air up to 65 psi on the rear shock but it didn't seem to help. I will let ya'll know how that works out. In my rush to get back on the road I have not cleaned her up good yet. As soon as I can get it cleaned and waxed I will post some pics of her. She looks as good as new.
  20. rek58. The plug wire hitting the frame is an easy fix. Just fire up the torch and cut a 3 inch circular cut out of the frame:thumbsup2:. NO MORE wire hitting. Oh wait. The frame supports other stuff too doesn't it???... Sigh... See what happens when you come home from the hospital after brain surgery with your certification signed by The Wizzard of Oz...:stirthepot:
  21. That is some pretty serious rust on a tank that new. Since you bought a new bike, it should have a new tank. If you had wanted a bike with a rusty tank you would have bought an old rusty bike. The dealer should step up and make sure Yamaha replaces it. It just depends on how much service he wants to give you. When I bought my 04 the tank had a chip in the paint. They replaced the tank with a new one and gave me the old one. I'm using it now since I dented up the other one in the accident.
  22. You are susposed to put them up in the winter??? I bought Gerbins heating clothing and tend to ride south a little more often in the winter. Brake Pad. I understand your situation and I feel for your loss:crying:. I would be lonesome for at least a couple of weeks if my wife moved away. Oh well, I guess I could find someone to wash my ride for me...
  23. Le Roy. I bought one from my local dealer for under $10. The stock ones are pot metal and tend to break easily. Diamond R accessories, www.diamondraccessories.com , has some chromed steel ones that look great. Good Luck
  24. Have you thought about calling Willie Nelson?????? He sure knows about weed...
  25. Ruffrider. Where did you get your LED board. Mine came from Custom Dynamics and it too has 3 LEDs that shine very brightly on the license plate. I fine it strange that yours doesn't. (but then I find a lot of things strange). Or is it that a lot of things find me strange?? Just my thoughts but the cop was just doing his/her job.
