  1. I passed one heading east on I-24 near Hopkinsvile Ky. It was a Midnight with a NC plate on it. Unfortunately I was in my wife's Sebring at the time.
  2. Salty Dawg. I checked the repair manual and it looks like they front wheel bearing are sealed ball bearings. They shouldn't need any maintance, just check them every tire change to make sure one isn't going bad.
  3. I put the Flanders bars on my bike. I love them. The set back is just right for me and they were a snap to put on. I don't have any experience with the RSTD bars, but I dont think they will fit the RSV due to the width. Someone will chime in and correct me if I'm wrong,, and I usally am. Just ask the Warden:stirthepot:
  4. Well I found out tonight why Yamaha put a "soft" clutch in the Venture. My son and I went out on a day trip today and as we were getting close to home we stopped at a traffic light. It was late with no traffic around and we were in separate lanes. He gets froggy and starts revving the engine on the Nomad and hollers over at me "what ya got old man"? Wellll, I have never been one to let and insult pass me by, especially from a mere youngster, (he's 24), so I got the Venture rolling, pulled the clutch in and hit the throttle a couple of times, then hammered on it... BIG MISTAKE!!! :bang head: This was my first real hard hole shot since I did the clutch up-grade and let me tell you... IT WORKS. That clutch grabbed hold, the rear tire went to spinning and smoking, the rear end went sideways, my butt puckered up and I just held on til I was WAYYYYY out in front. Talk about a rush... Don't wanna do it again, but oh, what a feeling. Before when I tried this the clutch would slip, not much, but just enough that it wouldn't let the rear tire break traction. I think I am going to like this set-up much better.
  5. Cooked right I have heard that they taste like chicken... :rotf: :rotf: :stirthepot:
  6. If the needles look to be in good shape, just use a clean, lint free cloth to wipe any trash from the surface of the bearings. If you have a needle attachment for your grease gun you can use it to inject grease into the bearing. If not, just put some grease on your finger and push it into the bearings. You will be surprised at how little grease these bearings actually require. Good luck.
  7. Calperin Super Bright LEDs, www.superbrightleds.com , makes a 90 degree replacement LED in both 1156 and 1157. They also have electronic flashers that will run the LEDs. I'm kicking around getting a set to try em out. I know the turn signal uses a 2 prong flasher, but I'm not sure about the emergency flasher. I'll have to pull it to see. Good luck with your search.
  8. What he said...
  9. I hope it spreads to all 50 states. There are just too many people on the streets now to play that way.
  10. I like the idea of the Dyna balancing beads. Has anyone actually used these?? I have used the powder in the front tires of a semi that I used to drive. It seemed to work real well.
  11. Self-moderation??? I thought self-moderation meant that you quit drinking when you ran out of beer??? :stirthepot: :stirthepot: Squidley, You know we do this cause we love ya man. Just imagine what we would be like if we didn't like you... :whistling: :innocent: ... and why would anyone want to bash an outdated, antiquated, over-the-hill, old fashioned ride like a First Gen??????????? :confused24:
  12. I too have a Clearview shield with a vent. Due to the Warden and I both being tall, I bought the tallest shield they had and I absolutely love it. It is a great improvement over the stock shield. It takes a while to get one due to the backlog, but the wait is worth it. Some people have bought blems with good luck. They say that you really have to look to see the blemish and you save some money and a lot of time as they usually ship a blem right away. Heck, I've put about 7k miles on my shield since spring and I'm sure it has a blemish on it now. Makes me wish I had bought a blem. :bang head:
  13. The jack that I have for several years that came from Sam's Club. It has a lift adapter that has 4 V shaped brackets on adjustable arms. It worked out pretty good, but was a pain to get set up under the bike. Last year I bought a lift adapter, with legs, from Carbon 1. I cannot give this piece of equipment enough praise. With the Carbon 1 lift adapter, any inexpensive jack will work fine. My brother had a jack that was purchased from Lowes for $89. It worked real good for his Harley. We still have it around for the odd things like getting the way or crowding up the garage. Someday Son will move away and take it with his bike.
  14. I am living proof that this will not work in KY . They will not take a check for the ticket. Only cash or a money order for the exact amount. :bang head:
  15. I have hauled an 02 Road King and a 06 Venture in an extended cab Chevy 1500 with a short bed. I did have to put a piece of 3/4 plywood in front of the front tire of the Venture to keep the fender from hitting the front of the bed though. Both bikes had the rear tire sitting on the very edge of the bed. I strapped the front down real good then the rear down just enough to keep it from going side to side. My brother or I never had a bit of trouble. If it does sit on the tailgate just do like PJ said and put a plank under it.
  16. I so graciously asked the Warden her opinion about this and her one word resonse was........ :whistling: :dancefool: CHIPPINDALES :dancefool:
  17. Here is the thread to the Kuryakyn home page. http://www.kuryakyn.com/index.asp They have several that are suitable for the Venture. I use the wide foot peg with a solid mount and others have used the adjustable mounts. It's just whatever you think will suit you best.
  18. That's OK. The Warden ALWAYS packs her pole, handcuffs, silk whip... OOPPPPSSSSS better watch out. SOME people will try to peek in a man's tent. :rotf: :rotf:
  19. SERIOUS???? Youhavegottobekidding??? Did he forget where he posted this???
  20. Seaking I have pulled two wheel trailers several thousand miles with good luck. If I were going to purchase a trailer I would have to get a 2 wheel. There are some very nice light ones out there that will do what you want. For me, I don't like the idea of having a one wheeled anything. I am like you, how do you hold the dang thing up when you unhook it??? I've passed em on the road, but never seen one unhooked. I guess it is one of the greater mysteries of life that may never be answered. Since I have never pulled a single wheel, these are just my personal thoughts... Good Luck
  21. Dang Margaret, you are a hard woman... :rotf:
  22. Any chance that Hooters would send a group of "delegates"???
  23. Sigh,,, such is my life... :crying:
  24. Now WHO'S easy??? Pics AND phone numbers please...
  25. Mechanic. There has been a lot of new growth in the area so we found that there was plenty of fuel depots out in that area. The only time I used reserve was while I was on the interstate and didn't want to stop. Of course I didn't push the issue and never let it get below 1/4 tank. That being said, have Sleephawk put the rack on for an ice chest. You will love being able to grab a drink whenever you stop. I did that and it was a very nice accessory to the bike. We both welcomed a good cold bottle of water every time we stopped. Good luck and..
