  1. I have worked for companies that used the Mobil Delvac oil in their deisel engines with good results. I really believe the most important thing is a regular maintainance program regardless of which oil you use. Now that the "Black Beast" is out of warranty I am going to switch to deisel oil. Probably Rotella because it is readily available in this area.
  2. At 2:10 on July 30th 2009 the Lord blessed us with a 7lb, 15oz grandson named Austin Bradley.  Both mama and baby are doing fine, but I don't think we will ever get that grin off of the proud papa's face. Not to mention both sets of grandparents... :rotfl: I promise to take pics today and will post them later. Now for the bad news. Since the Warden has STILL NOT been able to return to work since the surgery on her foot, this was 9 weeks ago, I will not be able to make it to The Hub this weekend. HOWEVER, I WILL make it to Vogel for those that are sorely disappointed that I wont show up at the International Rally . I was really looking forward to finally getting to meet some of the people that I see on here. Oh well, maybe next year. For everyone that is traveling this week, my prayers are that all of your travels will be done safely.
  3. Naptha is a petroleum distilate that has a very low flash point.(It is NOT a generic name for petroleum distilate) Hence it is used in lighter fluids and camp stove fuels. It can be used in your motorcycle fuel, but it will lower the flash point making the fule burn off faster. Deisel fuel and Kerosene are both fuel OILS and have similar properties and similar flash points. (115 to 125 degrees F.) While they both can be run in a deisel engine, I would not use either one in a typical gasoline engine. These as well as mineral spirits can be used as parts cleaners. (they will burn, but not as likely to explode.) If you feel that Sea Foam is getting too expensive try switching to another type of carb cleaner. I have used Gumout for several years with great results. STP also makes a good one. It is important to use these as needed. If you store your ride through the winter then use some Sta-Bil in the fuel before storing. When you first get it out in the spring, drain the tank and add fresh gas with a cleaner in it. The main thing is to not let your ride get so gummed up that it needs a deep cleaning. Just my totally unsolicited opinion. It and 2 bucks will get you coffee...
  4. Hey now!!! Get off my Neil Diamond playing tape deck... :rotfl:
  5. From Vogel, it's not too awful far up to the Blue Ridge Parkway... Hmmmmm,,, It does lead to home... Sorta :whistling:
  6. Cindy. Please put my name in the pot (pun intended) for the Wednesday night dinner. If it turns out that I cannot make the meet, I will send the Hub the money for my dinner... By the way, how much is dinner???? :confused24: Thank you so much for all of the work you are doing to make this a success. You are really a trooper.
  7. Stupid question here, but was your cooling fan working properly? The coolant stops circulating, and gets the hottest, when you first shut off your engine, hence the "boil over". That is when your fan should run, if only for a minute.
  8. It is kind of unusual for the wheel bearings to go out on that low mileage. I have 60K miles on my bike and they weren't showing any sign of wear. Also, I would question the bearings being a "wear and tear" item. If necessary, contact Yahama about that one. If they want to charge you for it, you can pick up the bearings at a parts store or bearing supplier and change them out yourself. It's a very simple procedeure.
  9. Go BLACK and you will never go back... unless it's to look for the slower, other colors. :stirthepot:
  10. I do CHECK my bearings once a year and before a trip. But I don't see the need to repack them every year. If the seal doesn't blow out or the wheels get submerged in water, there really isn't a need for it. Bearing Buddies were designed for boat trailers that submerge thier wheels when they are hot. Without Bearing Buddies the hub will suck water in through the seal when it hits the cooler water. Bearing buddies are spring loaded to allow the grease to expand and contract without sucking water into the hub. As with anything, the most important thing is to keep a good regular maintance program. It is better to prevent than to have to repair on the road. I'll get off my soapbox now... :whistling:
  11. Wayne Most of those bearing hubs come in 2 or 3 different sizes, but they are pretty much standard sizes. You may have to take the bearing cap off, and take it to the supply store with you, to get the right one. The question I have is, why do you want to use Bearing Buddies? You aren't going to be submerging the wheels in water, so it's not likely to pull enough water into the bearing housing to ruin the grease. Just repack the bearings every 5 to 7 years. Just my 2 cents worth. :mo money:
  12. Wayne, Not to give you a short answer, but NO. The RSV will not carry an extra 4 amps. We are doing well to get by with the minor accessories that we now carry. Just my 2 cents worth, :mo money:
  13. I am hoping he will be born between next Monday (When I get off work) and the 2nd of August. But you know how these kids LOVE to mess up the best laid plans...LOL
  14. As much as I would like to bring him along, I don't think his mama will let him go for an overnight ride just quite yet... :crying: But I will bring pictures.
  15. This has SUUUCKEEEER written all over it. BUT, if grandson cooperates, I will sacrifice my pride and body to volunteer. :crying:
  16. :sign yeah that: :sign yeah that: :sign yeah that:
  17. It seems to ME, that some people, or PERSON, cannot stand peace and serenity in the household... :whistling: :stirthepot: :stirthepot:
  18. Get you a set of "take offs" that someone has sitting around their garage... :mo money:
  19. Cindy. My being able to attend the Rally depends on my new grandson. Actually it depends on when he decides to show up. :confused24: My daugher is "due" between the 3rd and 8th, so it is very iffy for me. The question that this rambling is leading to is this. Can I just show up and register at the Hub? If you don't have T-shirts and patches that's fine. I just want to be able to enjoy the company and meet a few of the nuts,,, er, fellow members... :stirthepot: OHHHH. Did I mention that I'm gonna have a new GRANDSON??? :big-grin-emoticon: :big-grin-emoticon:
  20. Cindy, you won't have to worry about "Big Bubba". Those guys LOVE men that abuse little girls. I will be so glad when he finally get what he deserves.
  21. Lewis. I've mailed off my registeration and check. Am all ready for the Rally cept for one little thing. Sleeping accomodations. Do I need to make a reservation for a tent site at Vogel or will there going to be plenty available??? :confused24: Inquiring minds must know.
  22. Don, please PM me your address. I promise to write it in my phone book this time.
  23. Lewis. Where is the link to register for Vogel? :confused24: I'm a slow learner and need all the help I can get.
  24. Heck, ALL my friends be cheap... Both of them.
