How to tell if the rear shock it going bad?
Al Bates replied to Gamecock's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Shock Yamaha and WorkShock (Works Performance) After a little research and talking to some shops that specialize, I found that for the most part the shock being the only one on that heavy bike takes a beating. The life of the oil inside of the shock will start to breakdown in about 2 years. So what I’m trying to say is after about 2 to 3 years the shock should be rebuilt. Which consist of o-rings and new oil. The Yamaha shock runs about the same price as the workshock (Works Performance) shock. The different is that the Yamaha shock is not rebuildable. The workshock shock can be rebuild many times. Workshock are really friendly folks. They told me that either they can send me the parts (kit) to rebuild myself or they can do it for around $50. to $75. It dose takes a little time to get it adjusted right. Onces the shock has been adjusted to the riders, it’s a great ride. My Yamaha shock was worn out and I did not know it. I found the best way to check is to push down on the back of the bike and check to see how fast it rebounds. If is like spring spring bounce bounce real spring-e, it’s bad. I went around checking other new ventures, I must have checked 10 to 20 of them. That’s when I know that I had a worn out shock. It was wasted. At that time I had about 60,000 on the bike. The grounding noise I had that for three years, it never went away. I tried to fine some way to get a little oil in there, even removed the thing, but never had any luck. With the shock completely worn out it still had oil and would hold air right down to the pound. When I first replace the shock, man what a different. I forgot what a shock was there for. Battery keeps dying in the garage...
Al Bates replied to Semi-retired's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
AB Battery Check 5.23.2010 Simple and quick. Battery Check: Make sure the battery is fully charge. Some way stop the engine from starting, ground out the coils or cut off the fuel. Place a dc volt meter across the battery + & - should read somewhere around 13 volts Crank the engine for 15 sec watch the volt meter, if the volts drops below 9.6 it's time for a new battery, closer to 9.6 weaker the battery. Battery Drain check: Make sure the battery is fully charge. Turn off everything on the bike. Remove one of the battery cables, take a 12 volt test light and place it between the battery and the battery cable, one end of the test light on the battery and the other end of the test light to the cable. The test light should be out. If the test light is on the battery will have a drain. Now start pulling fuses until you fine it. If the test light is out there is no drain on the battery, to test this turn on your head lights the head lights will not come on but the test light will, the test light should be super bright, head lamps will be max drain, brighter the light more drain on the battery. Now turn off the head lamps and the light should go out. Note: Check your test light before starting. Place it across any 12 volt battery. -
I agree there all the same, there is no difference in facebook or any another social site. Including this one. There all in it for the buck and that's ok, it's there business and a lot of work. If I had 10,000 members I would do the same thing.

Well said Beer30 The Flip-Flop I spend a lot of time at gun ranges and was amazed with some of the stories I was hearing. To make a long story short around 50% of the folks I talked to had someway been victims. After hearing a few of these stories I decided to listen to as many of them as I could. When a new face walked in we got to talking and I asked, way are you here, each and every time it was because they had been a victim of some kind, most of them would say never again. This got my curiosity and by listening to them many would tell me that they were against guns and a law biding citizen carrying a hand gun. But after becoming a victim that all change. Now it's all about protecting yourself. Well it's what I call the flip-flop being total against guns and only after becoming a victim did he /she flip-flop and was new all for guns. Just remember bud guy don't have or care about laws, bad people will all ways have guns. Carrying a firearm is a huge responsibility. Knowing when and how could save you or a love one lives. I have taken several Training and Tactical courses most of them in the military. I'm also a reloaded.

Working with aircraft, we did use nitrogen in tires and accumulators etc. Because nitrogen was some what explosive we switch to super dry air. Nitrogen work well but was not worth the risk. We did have a few incidents with nitrogen that did cause damage. A few years later we did go back to nitrogen.

My first ride on a 2007 Midnight Venture

A few things I did to help was to replace tires. The tires makes a big different I tried many others but always come back to the Avon's. I'm on my 5th set of Avon's, It's a lower mileage tire but a more soft, gooey tire. I feel it grips better on all surfaces. Going to the slimmer tire in the front give the bike a lot more control at lower speeds and great turnaround control. But on the free way at 80 mph it seems to drift a little. But over all for now I'll stick with the slim tire in the front. Front stock: Avon Venom-X AM41 150/80HB-16 Front slim MT90HB-16 (Slim) (130/90HB-16) Note: some Dealerships will not install the slimmer tire. This tire is 1" narrower than stock, but the same diameter. Bike sits exactly the same height front and rear. Rear stock: Avon Venom-X AM42 150/90HB-15 Southwest Moto Tires ships free of charge for two or more tires anywhere in the lower 48 states. Prices are pretty comparable to other discounters. Service is excellent. http://www.swmototires.com Go up on top and do a search on Avon Venom Tires, all the info will be there. -

The Blue Ridge Park Way July 2009. About eight of us had the opportunity to make the trip. We started at Front Royal Skyline Drive Shenandoah National Park Virginia. Ended up at Cherokee, North Carolina. We stayed at all the Lodges. It's truly one adventure that we will never forget. Two nights at each lodge would be about right. There is so much to do up there. We went with about eight friends and they were great and a lot of fun. If you do get that chance to go, get the Blue Ridge Park Way Book. I know the trip is a little pricey, but it's worth it. *********************************************************************** Sorry for removing the video, Due to an e-mail from youtube saying I could be in trouble with Sony.
