No mater what you do and who you are a person should be responsible for his or her actions in all cases. Life is based on decisions and if harm is caused to another person do to a bad decision or negligence that person made there should be some kind of punishment. Accidents are accidents they do happen. But also negligence is negligence. Money and Attorneys these days can and will beat negligence, bad decisions I seen it many times.

My Sick 2nd Gen (long overdue update)
Al Bates replied to Cerviperus's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I'm sure they will replace the bad plug, even if it is new, running rich for a day will cause it not to perform properly -
Had the same problem, Hard wired the two ends.

Justin, my recommendation don't rejet the carbs, there is no need for that. May cause more problems. The HD pipes and air filters is ok and will not cause any problems. Some way some dirt or something got into the needle and seat. When this gets corrected the bike will run so much better. You'll be happy. It looks like there on the right track:happy34: My RSV must have had the problem for a long time. When I found it, it was at a poplars dealer. They know nothing about the bike. Come to fine out it was a repo bike that had a problem and the owner gave it back to the bank. I did get a great deal on it. Once I got the problem fix. It has been a super bike. I purchase it with 7,000 miles on it and now have around 60,000 the bike has been great. -
My Sick 2nd Gen (long overdue update)

Had the same problem when I fist purchase my RSV. Smelling fuel, poor performance and so on. Found fuel leaking down into the carburetor, causing the engine to run rich. Check your carburetor fuel vent lines. It's a small rubber hose, looks like a vacuum hose. There is one on each side. The left two carbs are on the left side and the right two carbs are on the right side. Both are behind the air filters. (hidden) I pulled them out and place them just under the air filters so I can monitor what is going on. (check pic's below) If there leaking fuel sometimes you can smell it. If you can see them you can monitor them. If there is any fuel coming out of them, mostly at idle, there's a problem. It's running rich. Low fuel mileage. THE FIX: Pull the spark plugs. Check and see which plug is running rich, if that is the case the plug will be wet and black. Fine out watch plug = carburetor and change the needle and seat, check the float level. Overhauling RSV Carburetors 1999 and up Some things to remember when overhauling the carbs. Disassemble one at a time. Remove every part that can be removed. Be super careful with the o rings. Take your time and clean each part. (kerosene, carburetor cleaner, etc) Do a good inspection on all the parts. Use compressed air to dry them off and blow through each passage way. Reassemble with NEW needle and seat, check the float level and make adjustments as needed. Use petroleum or vaseline for reassembling, (makes it so much easier) especially the diaphragms and O-rings. Once there out sometimes they swell and hard to reinstall. Put (load) petroleum or vaseline in the grove and on the diaphragms edge, use your fingers and thrums and lightly press the edge of the diaphragm into the grove. The petroleum or vaseline will keep the diaphragm in the grove. Carefully install the diaphragm cover. Reassembling the choke is a little tricky. Adjust idle and Synchronize carbs. Check the carburetor fuel vent lines. Should have no fuel coming out of them. Hope this helps:080402gudl_prv: -
Went through the same thing, I decided to go with the RSV because it looks like a motorcycles and had way more chrome. Another thing I like about the RSV was when seating on the bikes I seat into the RSV and on top of the others bikes. That was a big + for me.

I agree with Forrest (flb_78) on this one. Heat shrink splice connectors is what I use and some times soldier and shrink wrap. Never had any problem. Sometimes real hands on and years of practical experience comes out to have the best solution.

Update on Gas Mileage
Al Bates replied to Freebird's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Sure looks like a carb problem and carbs, other than synchronizing, are NOT my specialty. I guess I'll pull them over the winter though and see if I can find anything. 1. Some things to remember when overhauling the carbs. 2. Disassemble one at a time. 3 . Remove every part that can be removed. 4. Be super careful with the o rings. 5. Take your time and clean each part. (kerosene, carburetor cleaner, etc) 6. Do a good inspection on all the parts. 7. Use compressed air to dry them off and blow through each passage way. 8. Reassemble with NEW needle and seat, check the float level and make adjustments as needed. 9. 10. Reassembling the chock is a little tricky. 11. Adjust idle and Synchronize carbs. 12. Check the carburetor fuel vent lines. Should have no fuel coming out of them. -

I checked the bike out and sent him a few e-mail and ask him if I could look at it, I told him that's the only way I would purchase it. Only after a check out of the title and bike. After a few e-mails I sent one final e-mail and said "I think I know where you are coming from":scratchchin:

Does your cooling fan come on??
Al Bates replied to dragerman's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have a 02 and the cooling fan would come on in hot weather in traffic, some times on the free-way with high RPM or in the garage on a hot day syncing carbs . Then one summer on a hot day when I decided to sync the carbs I new it was hot and the fan should have kick on, but it never did. So I did some testing and found that the temperature switch in radiator (there is two of them) was faulty. I replace it and the fan started working again. -
It's great to give young kids that change to discover whats out there. It could make a big deferents on what they do for a career.

I had the I-Way500C and did not like it only because it was to big and heavy. I now have the I-way 250C had it for about a year. I like it, It works fine. I can see it with my sun glasses on and in the bright sun. The price was right also. $185.00 I'm thinging about purchasing the ZUMO 550 because it's water-proof, has brighter screen (for bright sun light) blue tooth-(telephone) locks in with key. I see the price ranges from $700.00 to $900.00 Check out the other venture gps pros and cons post. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=13902 http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=11613 http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=13456 Type in GPS in search on top. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/search.php?searchid=290632

Al Bates replied to stvmaier's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
If you are looking for a perfect bike I don't think you will fine one, After years of riding this bike I'm still amaze each time I get on. The engineering in this machine is incredible. I would look around just to see whats out there and most likely purchase another:sun: -
Glad all went well, With a little luck things will work out. Take care, see you soon:2132:
