Used them all I have AVG on 4 machines, been using it for 5 years now. It's like 35.00 for 2 years (advance)for one machine, it may have went up in price, not sure. I saw it in Sam's club last week for $27.00 for two years (basic) I did use the free one for two years and like it so much I purchase the advance with spyware built in. AVG is the only anti-viruses I will use now.

Cruise control
Al Bates replied to kludlum's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Check and make sure that the cables are clamp tight and in the right position in the junction box if there to far forward the cable will hit and drag or jam the pulley. I found this on a friends bike. -
Steve, really sounds cool. Diane and I would be there "but" my brother is having a family get together that weekend and ask us to be there. What can I say. We miss out on another great event. We miss you guys.

Rear Shock replacement question
Al Bates replied to bobbyduck's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Shock Info. After 72,000 miles on my 02 Midnight the rear shock is wasted. First Diane was saying that even the small bumps was killing her and it’s getting worse. Then I starting checking and comparing other Ventures by putting two hands on the side of the trunk and pushing down. There was no resistance on my 02 just bouncing up and down and most of all the others I check had good shock rebound. I also notice at high speeds around 80-90 the bike was slightly unstable "from years past". After check around I made the decision to go with Works Shocks. I called and talked to I believe his name was Sandy a super nice guy. He was telling me that a shock on that type of cruiser after 2 to 3 years is about worn out. After giving him some information our weight and what we carry with us they (works shocks) made the shock. A rear YA-46003 for $606.43 that’s with a 10% discount and shipping. In two week it was at the house. He did say that this shock is rebuild-able and they will sell me all parts needed to rebuild the shock or they will rebuild it for $75.00 when needed. I got the shock installed and went for the first test ride. The first thing I notice is that the bike sits about two inches higher. We came back and I did some adjustments and it help. There is no air on this shock. This shock has a preload and rebound adjustment. We then went for another ride, much better this time. I’m still in the adjustment stage. Diane said the bikes is riding like it should now. That the bumps don’t hurt anymore. To me it rides like a new bike again. All I can say the folks at works shocks are super to work with and the shock it self is one hell of a piece of engineering. I check the old shock it still had oil in it and still held air. The shock was just worn out. I did call Yamaha they would not cover it, said the bike was a year out of warranty but if the bike did not have so many miles on it they may have cover it. I used the free stuff for four years and liked it so much I pay now, The free is ok but much more protection with the paid stuff, $$. I like the product, well worth a few bucks. I'm just glad there out there.

I see there selling AVG software in stores now. $27.00 for for 2 years. I been using it for years. Works great for me. No snooping and slowing down my machine with them. They also include Spy-ware. Sure beets others that bogg down my machine and have to know everything about me and what I'm doing for for the low price of $90.00 for one year.

Mistake buying a Venture?
Al Bates replied to Trainwreck68's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have a 02 Midnight, I put about 65,000 miles on it and all I can say is it's the best bike I have every had and let me say I have not been ease on this bike, I have driven the hell out of it. I have been riding from the age of 13, started with mine-bikes, dirt bikes, street bikes and have had many different make and models. Not sure what my next bike will be, most likely another Venture. -
TruthOrFiction.com http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/m/mail-server-virus.htm "Mail Server" Virus Warming-Truth! & Fiction! Summary of the eRumor: A virus warning about an email that comes with a subject line of "Mail Server Report." The message says that it is a bad virus. The email is described as having a zip file attachment and says that you have sent out an email with a virus in it and that if you click the attachment, you can fix the problem. Another version says that you will lose all the files on your PC and that the email is being sent by a hacker named "life owner." The Truth: The "Mail Server Report" virus is real and began circulating in 2006. Another version of the "Mail Server" virus warning began circulating in 2008, however, that is a hoax. It all gets very confusing. The original email that was sent in 2006 warned of a real virus, according virus protection sites such as Mcafee, Symantec, and F-Secure. The email pretends to be warning you that it has been determined that emails containing a worm are being sent from your computer and that you should install the attachment to update your computer and, presumably, stop the virus from being sent. The problem is that the attachment itself is a virus so if you are duped into opening it, it searches your computer for email addresses and sends itself to them. F-Secure names the real virus as Warezov. Other virus protection sites called it Stration.bb or W32/Stration-X. A second version began circulating in 2008 this is a hoax. It claims that if you receive an email with the words "Mail Server Report" and open it, you'll receive a message on your screen that says "It is too late now, your life is no longer beautiful" and that you'll "lose everything on your PC." That actually borrows wording from yet another virus hoax called "Life is Beautiful." Be sure you have good virus protection software and that your virus definitions are up to date. Updated 4/2/08 -------------------------------------------------------------- A real example of the eRumor as it has appeared on the Internet: Version #1 Alert everyone you know through e-mail not to open an e-mail with "Mail Server Report" in subject line. I went to the link and it is saying this one is "True" - BEWARE. Urgent This is a Bad Virus Please don't open! This one checks out and is a bona fide real virus so hence the warning: Any email with "Mail Server Report" in the subject line is a new virus and should not be opened. It comes with an attachment in zip format. Apparently there is a Zip file attached so be very leery of any thing with a zip file attached to it. The message tells you that a worm was detected in an e-mail that you sent out and asks you to open and install the attachment to 'fix' the problem. Only, the Zip File IS the problem! DO NOT DO IT! Delete the e-mail. This is a real threat. Version #2 Anyone-using Internet mail such as Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL and so on. This information arrived this morning, Direct from both Microsoft and Norton. Please send it to everybody you know who has access to the Internet. You may receive an apparently harmless e-mail titled 'Mail Server Report' If you open either file, a message will appear on your screen saying: 'It is too late now, your life is no longer beautiful.' Subsequently you will LOSE EVERYTHING IN YOUR PC, And the person who sent it to you will gain access to your name, e-mail and password. This is a new virus which started to circulate on Saturday afternoon. AOL has already confirmed the severity, and the anti virus software's are not capable of destroying it. The virus has been created by a hacker who calls himself 'life owner'. PLEASE SEND A COPY OF THIS E-MAIL TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS, And ask them to PASS IT ON IMMEDIATELY! THIS HAS BEEN CONFIRMED BY SNOPES.

Can't make Star Days 2008. Rear shock went out, Ordered a new one today from Shock Works. $649. We cancel the Hotel with a full refund. But Debbie from Star would not refund anything. I explained to her that the bike was down and the shock would not be here for three weeks or maybe longer. There is nothing I can do. The bike is down. I called as soon as I ordered the shock. She more less said that I was out of luck! To bad, Will all I can say is, that's bad business.

Top 10 Reasons To Go To Freebird's Maintenance Day!
Al Bates replied to Yama Mama's topic in Watering Hole
The best part was seeing friends and meeting new friends. Going around chatting, finding out were there from and putting names with faces. They are the most friendliest folks I have every meant. Never got all the way around. We had a grand time. Diane and I were sad when it was time to go -
Looking for a littel help for my brand new rider wife of mine..
Al Bates replied to a topic in Watering Hole
Try to fine an old set and bend them as needed. Don't need heat on aluminum. -
Don't know what your needs are but this is what I would look for. Processor: I prefer an AMD 14" High-Definition Widescreen Display no less then (1280 x 800) (Small & compacted) System Memory: 4GB DDR2 No less then 3GB DDR2 Hard Drive: 320GB 5400RPM SATA no less then 250GB Blu-ray Disc (BD/DVD/CD read/write) make sure it's a blu ray recorder and not just a Blu-ray disc player Bluetooth Most of all don't over pay for an out of date Computer. Just because it sounds like a good deal, most likely the Computer is out of date. Should get the laptop above for around $1000. to 1700. The Blu-ray recorders (BD/DVD/CD read/writeis) are new and may be hard to fine, but there out there.

Maintenance Day! What a fun time, Bikes all over the place, Bikes apart all over the place. Food all over the place. Super folks all over the place. What more can I say. "Oh" The Pond Monster is still alive and well, not sure but Diane said she saw he had a mate. That's right there is two of them. More to come................
