Created my own Wind Tunnell

Buddy, sorry no disrespect to yours. I haven't tried them. I was referring to something that would mount to the tank like a piece of thick trim. -
Created my own Wind Tunnell

I tried the tall 21" clearview and didn't really like it, but it did do the job. I didn't like looking through it and it felt like I was pushing a riot shield down the road. After cutting it down 5", I love it. From what I've figured out on the air tunnel, is that it funnels up the side of the fuel tank even with the lowers. I took a set of soft seatbelt pads (wal-mart) inserted 3 magnets and sewed them in and stuck it to the side of the tank just below the tank emblem and it worked. As the air comes up beside the tank they deflect the air out and away. 70 mph is as smooth as 50 mph. With my feet on the highway pegs, I still get air, but its reduced alot. They don't look good, but they work and they're removable and you still get air to the motor. Why know one has ever designed something functional and attractive is besides me. Maybe I'm the only one that would buy it. A chrome piece of trim like the one on the Vstar1300 except larger, bout 2" think would probably work really nice. -
I was just curious... Maybe I'm different, but I don't consider a high pitch whine from the clutch that requires ear plugs to be a "normal" engine sound. Sorry, but maybe to a pirate its a welcome sound.
-
Would the clutch whine be considered a characteristic of a lemon? If I understand what has been said in previous posts, its a flaw in craftsmanship in most RSTDs and RSVs. From what I've read, the dealer has four attempts to repair it within the warranty and if its not fixable they're required to buy it back.

kuryakyn airmaster fairing

Radio Caddy makes one for the RSTD...I forgot how much they were, want to say around $750-850. Go to JPCycles.com. -
I've got the comfort cruise from yamaha which is firm like a corbin seat. As far as I can tell, it's the same height as the factor seat, except that it doesn't compress when you set on it.

How do you guys do it????
jfoster replied to badluck73's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Do you get gas with ethanol in it? I think someone else posted on it. I know I got some in Tenn and my mileage went south real quick, low 30's. I also found that by shortening the windshield by a few inches my mileage went up 2-3 mpg. -

avg 35-40 mpg

You'll need the roller attachments, that screw into the side of the chrome bracket. The backrest has the quick release built into it.
-
Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see anyone say anything about the whine. For what its worth, I would test ride it for atleast and hour if possible. From what I've read on this site, majority of the time it is not fixable. I like my 06, but I can't ride it without earplugs for that same reason and for that reason I won't buy another one.
-
If yamaha didn't address the whine with the '10 then its obvious to me they could care less. And with the awe inspiring paint scheme (joke) doesn't run a new buyer off then a test ride most likely will. Which is a shame...atleast HD had the insight to fix some of there design flaws.

I'm with ya on the cheap looking flames...wonder how much fore thought went into that.

Mine is set on reserve and I never move it...good or bad, I couldn't say. I know alot of guys say run it through the gears. Me personally, I found that if I shift at the recommended shift points, 15, 25, 35, 45, I get the best fuel mileage at 40 mpgs compared to 36 mpg if I whine it up thru the gears. Which I don't consider is lugging it. Don't get me wrong, I won't pull a hill in 5th under 55 mph.

Motorkote comments and tracking??
jfoster replied to Judes Dude's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I told ya wrong, I'm using rotella 15-40 which I figured ya knew what I meant. Still haven't noticed any difference in the clutch whine. But, if it helps with the dry starts then I'm happy. I wish Yamaha would man-up and recall all of em. I like the looks and the ride but will be hard pressed to buy another one for that one reason. -
I checked it and there is nothing in the tubes...Like an idiot I through the box away. I don't remember anything that came with it except for some adapters and I remembered one thread that said we didn't need it. 2nd question..will it still work as is. I know when I idled it up it smoothed out or do I need to try to contact Morgan and try to get the restrictor tubes.

I'd probably felt better if i'd drunk it...lol I'm using reg Rotella 15-50. But, I did put it in with the engine hot if that makes a difference, which I usually do things butt backwards. -

Maybe it doesn't like the Rotella, it almost sounds worse than before. -

I added 7 oz's the other day and so far have put about 150 miles on it and haven't heard any difference. How long is it taking before ya have been hearing a difference? -
I thought I did it like you had instructed...I just attached the four vacuum lines to the posts. I didn't install anything else (restrictors). I'm not sure what they looked like, I know there was some adapters in the box and other than that I don't remember seeing anything.

Motorkote comments and tracking??
jfoster replied to Judes Dude's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Dave, my 06 RSTD only takes 3 qts ,w/filter, of oil to get it about the halfway mark. After draining it, I put in 3 qts. Hold it level to check and off I go. I think there was a post some time back not to fill it all the way up, due to oil residue getting into the airboxes. I'm also in with ya on the motorkote, if it blows up or comes apart, oh well. -
I guess I most have hooked mine up wrong or something. At an idle, the morgan was bouncing all over the place. As I idled it up (no Tach) it smoothed out to what I considered to be close enough not make any adjustments. Is that normal at idle?

Aero-Dynamics question
jfoster replied to jfoster's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
These are what I came up to reduce the buffeting and surprisingly it works great. Reduces alot of air buffeting and makes riding at interstate speeds alot more comfortable. Currently looking at having something made that looks kinda like chrome strip on the VStar 1300 but bigger. -
Something to consider on the mustang on a RSTD...I'm 6'0 and I felt like I could barely put my feet flat on the ground. Its not that its that much taller, but its wider at the tank. Also the seat is shallow compared to the stock seat which is good if you need to be closer to the handlebars. I then tried the comfort cruise from yamaha. Its just as comfortable as the mustang but in a different way. Where the mustang is flat the comfort cruise is molded like a corbin but a little softer. The comfort cruise positions you the same as the factor seat, maybe a tad higher due to the firmness. .
