At 320 lbs..I wouldn't get anything smaller than a 1300. Like they say, buy the biggest one you can afford.

I have yet to see a new Voyager on the road since they came out. At first I liked the looks then the cheesy fairing became an eye sore. Kinda like a great figure with an ugly face.

Comfort Cruise/Corbin Seat?
jfoster replied to RSTDdog's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I also had a mustang seat on it and I prefered the comfort cruise over it mainly because the mustang is to wide and shallow. The only problem I have with the comfort cruise is it has a small hump or ridge in the center of the seat thats alittle awkward. I'm not sure if the corbin has that same design. As far as passenger seat goes, they are firm compared to the stock seat.- 10 replies

Comfort Cruise/Corbin Seat?
jfoster replied to RSTDdog's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I've got it...its alot better than the stock seat. I does raise you up bout an inch mainly because the seat is firm and doesn't compress like the stock seat. Right not I've got the Butler mod on my stock seat and I've opted to ride on it instead with a utopia backrest. Personally I would try the butler mod first before buying a another seat.- 10 replies

I don't know if they migrate that far north. Along the gulf and lower east coast they're hell. Wouldn't be so bad, but from what I understand nothing will eat them and they will ruin a paint job on plastic bumpers.

I switched from regular rotella to the sythetic and everything seems very happy. For me the whine has decreased, maybe to the thinner or lighter weight oil. Mine screams with a heavey 20w-50.

The best half helmet i've found is the HCI retro 50...Its light and very comfortable. The only issue i have with it is the chin strap is very short compared to most helmets. If money wasn't an option i would try the davida which isn't dot approved.

biggnikk, I installed the custom dynamic 100 led brake light and love it. I also added a license plate frame (jp cycles) with the signal led light bar and wired it up like a 3rd brake light. The license plate frame is very easy to wire with all the wiring directly behind the license plate.

I've got the clearview on my RSTD, I personally did not like the recurve. It was directly in my line of sight and would hold condensation from a mist or fog. The Venture shield may have a different angle and may not be an issue. Other than that, very happy with the clearview.

I've got a full face modular, a 3/4 open face with the face shield, and 1/2 helmet (puddin bowl). I like the 3/4 with the face shield for protection, view, etc. My main problem with the larger helmets is noise. I wish they made one that wasn't full of wind noise and echoed engine/exhaust noise.

I odered a helmet last wk. Checked the tracking yestered (fri) and it indicated that it was delivered on thur at 5:08 pm. I was home and there was no packaged delivered. Looked all around and found nothing. Called Fedex and got a claim #. I asked them to contact the driver and ask where it he put it. By friday evening, still no call, no delivery guy. Call em back, lady says we're waiting on the driver to respond. I can see this is probably gonna be a long drawn out deal. Who knows what he did with it. Any advise with these ya-ho's.

Windshield HEIGHT advice
jfoster replied to ablumny's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I had that on mine, the main problem I had is that recurve was directly in my line of sight and it would hold moisture (fog or light rain). Very hard to see thru. I ended cutting my down to about 16". On a shorter windshield it may work well. -
Windshield HEIGHT advice
jfoster replied to ablumny's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
SilverT, I had my clearview cut down with no problems last year. Something to consider bout the tallest clearview is it will hurt your fuel mileage and performance. Like pushing a sheet of plywood down the road. Not sure bout the ventures, but the RSTD's or atleast mine has alot of wind that comes up around the side of the fuel tank which creates some buffeting. If you hold your hands in front of your knees you can really feel the air pushing up. To fix that problem, I modified a set of buddy's knee protectors and attached them to the side of the fuel tank with 3m tape and they work pretty good. Seabee ingenuity!!! It was either that or sell it...I had all I could take. -

I'll be happy to see LED passing lights and LED headlights for motorcycles. -
driver backrest??
jfoster replied to badluck73's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I'm sorry...you'll have to drill out the two holes large enough for the bolt to pass through. The bolts will then thread into the backrest bracket. -

You'll have to drill out the two holes to a 3/16 (I believe) for the bolts to thread into to. You may have to go to Utopia's website, I think they have an installation link on the exact drill bit size. Other than that, two bolts and your done. -
driver backrest??

I've got the utopia on my 06 RSTD and have been pleased with it. It's not hard to mount and it is adjustable (back n forth). I'm 6'1 and with it all the way back, I'm to far from the handlebars. It's also not rigid (it will fold down over the operator's seat). The one neat feature is, it has a zipper bag attached to the back to put glasses, ipods, etc. -
The avg retail for a used 06 RSTD is $9290. The warranty won't start until he buys it so he'll still get the full 5 yr warranty. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the bank (or atleast my credit union) will not look at it as new but, an 06 model and mine looks at the value as $9290. That being said, I would offer them at most $9290 because thats what the insurance co and the bank will say its worth. He can always contact his bank or credit union and see what the loan value on it is and go from there.

Currently, I'm back to riding on my stock seats with the Butler mod with the utopia backrest and am very pleased. I do wish the back rest was the same size as the mustang though.
-
I'm 6'1 and I found it to be wider in the front more so than the stock seat. To me it was to shallow from front to back, but it will move you alittle closer to the handlebars. Their backrests are very comfortable.

Curious if anyone has found an aftermarket lense for the RS's turn signals, like the kuryakyn deep dish bezles.

Frank, before you spend any money on replacing the seats. I strongly recommend going to the classifieds and look up Rick Butler's seat mods. I wish I had before I bought and sold a set of mustang seats and the comfort cruise, wouldn't have saved alot of money. Also, Utopia makes a backrest for RSTD.
