That would be hard one for me...One week I want a ST1300, the next a Road Glide. Next week it'll be something else. Can't wait till mine is paid off and the fun begins.

Not to much surprises me anymore...especially if it comes out of California. I think some where it was stated that through out history, the greatest civilizations only lasted several hundred years.

Elite 3 make a huge difference
jfoster replied to Godlover's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
For what its worth...I think I got around 6k miles out of my original rear tire. I didn't notice much of difference when I replaced it (metzler). I did notice a big difference when I replaced the front tire. If it was me, I'd get all the life out of it then replace it.- 14 replies

In La. earphones are...when they draw up the law, not sure if they were referring to cars/trucks or motorcycles. To me, I wouldn't consider riding with earplugs or earbuds to be unsafe...you can still hear as well as being in a car with the windows up and the radio on. I think they way more concerned about a driver with the windows up and headphones on.

Some food for thought...how fast were you going? How big was the deer? Did you have time to brake? I haven't worked a deer crash with a motorcycle...looking for some insight.

Tried on the HJC CL-33 today...MUCH quieter than the Fulmer. The Fulmer does fit better but, with the higher noise level its not worth it, IMHO.

Living in La., I'm not against drilling in the gulf. But, I do believe if your gonna attempt deep water drilling you should know how to fix it when it all goes wrong. As far as prices going up...when it got around $4 a gallon, we still had no problem writing speeding tickets on I-49. Maybe people down here aren't smart enough to figure out they were buring more fuel running 85 to 90 mph or don't care. Actually, If I remember right, I figured people would really slow down and they did the opposite.

I made the mistake of using castrol 20w-50 the first summer I had my RSTD...OMG it was drained out as soon as I got home. Since they replaced the g basket with the i, i'm in good graces with the RSTD. Not sure what weight the dealer put in it but, its doing a good job. I was using rotella syn 5w-30 before the swap. I'm hesistate to go back to it, it was the quietest but, the tranny felt under-lubed if that makes since. I may go back with the rotella 15w-40 or yamaha's 10w-40 depending on price. Tranny felt really good with rotella's 15w-40. One of the guys made the comment that when he tugged onto basket before the swap it was tight and with the "i" it had a little give. Maybe thats why the thin oil makes a difference...maybe its able to get to places the think oil can't???

I don't think you over-reacted...I would been ill. You personally saw him delibirately try to cause a crash. I have a hard time with them letting him go after he caused a crash. Unsat..

I don't have anyway to plug into a 5 pin plug. Its completely wireless. All I got is an input plug for an ipod. I tried plugging in a set of earbuds to that port out of curiousity, it didn't work. I went to my local radio shack and they said the wires to the speakers were to small to try to splice in a set of earbuds. I imagine it would have alot of connection problems from tugging on the wires.

If I'm reading this right...I don't think it will work for me. The intercom we have is wireless. Is it possible to cut off the speakers or splice in an earbud. It seems like a easy do, but I don't want to ruin a $200 headset.

I purchased the Sena intercom last week and installed them onto our helmets. They seem to work well. My problem is I prefer to wear earplugs. The helmets speakers are ok but, to much wind/road/engine noise. Can I retrofit a set of earbuds? I think it would be the perfect solution. Intercom with ipod quality sound.

No sir, not unless they will not pull over after I've been behind them for awhile with lights and siren. If two vehicles are running together and one stops and the other keeps going, I personally go after the one that doesn't stop. To me they know they're quilty and they would rather let the other guy take to wrap or they have other problems (dwi, dus, etc), which in turn he gets the break. I don't much like writing active duty military, but I had one that made me run him down and wanted a break. I hated it, but I told him, "guy your never gonna get a break if I have to run you down." As far as MC's go, I give em 10-15 mph over. I look for the sportbikes running 100+ or the ones that have no respect for other MC's or other vehicles.

Mustang Seat for My Royal Star??
jfoster replied to mellco's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I had the mustang on my 06. It was comfortable, especially liked the backrest. I ended up selling it, to me it was to shallow. Felt like I was riding on the fuel tank and it was to wide at the tank. If you want to be closer to the bars, it may be a good match. I'm 6'1 at 230 and needed alittle more wiggle room. -
learning more on V STAR 1300 2007
jfoster replied to mikesmold's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Not sure what fix your looking for? I think for 2010 yamaha came out with another set of bars for the Vstar 1300 that were more comfortable. -
"I" basket and back to Dino!
jfoster replied to Shipper's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I bought it new...After they took it out, I looked at it and it had the "g" on it. I was curious to what it had in it. I didn't see the one going into it, but the part number on the invoice matched what others had posted as the "i" basket. -
The radar will pick up the larger vehicle more easily. I've got a dual speed read-out. Say you got two vehicles traveling the same direction. If one is doing 70 and the other 80, it'll give me both vehicles. As far as stopping vehicles...if I see several running at the same speed. I usually always go after the one that doesn't stop. Sorry you'd be S.O.L. The ones that pull over immediately are the ones that usually get a warning, for me anyway.

"I" basket and back to Dino!
jfoster replied to Shipper's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I got my 06 back monday. They took the "g" basket out of it. The shop foreman talked like I could have it in 60 days or something. If so, your welcome to it. It was loud in mine. The "i" basket is quieter in mine, for sure. -
I purchased this helmet last year....if anyone is thinking of getting one. My opinion, it is a very noisy helmet. ALOT of windnoise. I do have my windshield cut down so my helmet does catch some air. Earplugs a most due to wind noise and not practical with intercom system. Correction: Fulmer AF-655

I-basket tech help
jfoster replied to jfoster's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Got it back today (monday), the part # 4XY-16150-09-00. On the ride home, it did seem to be about 70-80% quiter going thru the gears. At 60 mph bout 40% quiter. Which is an improvement. I'm not sure if they put in 20-50 or 10w-40. -
I-basket tech help
jfoster replied to jfoster's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Haven't forgot about you guys on the part #. Still waiting on it. Called friday and they're still waiting on a gasket. MAYBE monday, we'll see. Starting to get old. They've had it for almost two and half weeks now. I went by and checked on it the other day, it was a "g" basket that came off it. -
Whine, or Howl?
jfoster replied to nbowersock's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
When I took mine in, the dealer lubed it under warranty at no cost. The shop foreman acknowledged that yamaha uses very little grease during assembly.
