1. I wouldn't waste the money on a generic first aid kit. A reg size bank bag (tool bag) with some large tampoons (great for sucking up/clogging blood on big wounds), roll of medical tape, long piece of cloth for a tourniquet, some hydrogen peroxide if you got room or equivalent, maybe some band-aids, something for exhaust burns and a bottle of pain medication. I'm sure I forgot something....
2. On my way home from work today I came up behind a tan 1st gen cruising south on I-49. Ole guy with Quebec plates. He wore a white helmet and had a round reflector on the trunk (if this sounds familiar to anyone). Wanted to stop him and have a close look at it. He probably was wondering a why a white fully marked tahoe was following him at 65 mph.
3. Your guess is as good as anyone else's on that... I wouldn't wait on Yamaha, they may drop the RSV along with the RSTD line all together for a couple of years (history always repeats itself). If a '11 RSV costs $20k, I would hate to see what they would want for a 3rd Gen.
4. How did you like em? Curious, I've heard you CAN put the operator seat on with the factor rear, any comments?
5. I agree with you...in my 39 years of life, from driving cmv's for 12 yrs, to an assortment of cars and trucks. I have NEVER seen a fuel efficient vehicle that ran at a high rpm. Why are most manufacturer's going to six speeds? They lower the rpm's increasing fuel mileage regardless of where the sweet spot is (excluding large truck engines). I would be willing to bet money, if they would put in a 6th gear that would lower the rpm's by 300-500 rpm's at 70 mph you would get better fuel mileage. For some situations, you may need to stay in 5th if you've got alot more ground pressure from a passenger, etc. But, for those that run light having the option of another gear couldn't hurt.
6. I'm at 23k on my midnight and I really haven't had any issues with chips on the plastic parts. What few I've found on fenders, I use touch up paint. As for as swirls go, I wash it and blow dry it and then use eagleone's spray on wax and polish it with a cotton polishing clothe (no swirls or white residue).
7. I'd like to see them re-commission the white ones in 2012... with stratoliner rims.
8. Another, idea is take the lights off and mount some round led's that have a very low draw and give the bike a different look. JP cycles and other places have alot light options.
9. I agree with mountain horse, doesn't look it would fit due to the speedo. As far as the picture on their website, its just a Road Star with RSV/RSTD bags.
10. Need more pictures....I guess I'm one of the few that have never seen one in person. Maybe one day I'll get to ride one, they look like they would be a pleasure to ride.
11. Neat trailer...where did you get it?
12. Something else to consider....are you putting them on a cement floor, then no problem. If your putting it upstairs or on a wooden elevated floor like a mobile home you may have issues with the front load washer. They spin at an extremely fast speed and if not loaded properly they will walk and shack worse than an top load washer, even on their slowest spin cycle. I have a 19 yr old that still has no clue on how to load the thing. We have a front load washer, two differences I've noticed: one - it takes less dryer time, second - they do clean better.
13. Looks short of something you would see in Jamaca or Rio D, mon. Or as my wife would say, "tacky."
14. Sorry for messing up something I know you worked hard on....I keep fidling with things till I break em, and every once in a while they come out alright. If you can think of a better design, I'm all ears. They seem to be the perfect size. They look alot better in person, the black matches the paint perfectly. I couldn't get over how well the plastic forms..
15. I swapped out the stock shield for the clearview..not sure if this caused this adverse condition or if it was always there. Anyway, I got tired of air blowing up beside the tank hitting me in the chest and helmet (alot of buffeting). I got the knee protectors from Buddy Rich and with the help of a heat gun and some 3m tape, I came up with these. After six months, I love them. They don't block all the air but they do block bout 75% of it, creating a much smoother ride, but still enough air to stay comfortable. They don't block any air to the engine compartment. To give you an example of what I'm talking bout, at 60 mph hold your hands palm down along side of fuel tank in front of your knees....RSV's may not experience this.
16. Does Montana still have no posted speed limits?
17. I personally like the white from 04....IF I was to ever get a RSV, I want a white one!
18. Has anyone got theirs through dish or directv? How does it do? Currently we use Hughes.net and its ok compared to local dial-up. Flat fee $59.99
19. I believe you can put some risers on the venture to get the bars closer to you....I'm sure the RSV guys to can tell you for sure. From the RSV's I've sat on, your bars are way better than the ones on the RSTD.
20. According to NADA is bout 2k below avg retail ( I think is a good price)...to me its odd for a dealer to sell one at that price unless its on consignment, atleast around here they want full retail and then some. There's an '07 and '08 in our classifieds that are close to that price, may have to drive to pick em up. If you go with a new nomad, let us know how it rates.
21. Wouldn't want to be him.....unemployed, civil court, district court, and the burden of killing a person.
22. I've plugged car and truck tires and as to date have had no issues. I've also did an atv tire and no issue, though it seldomly sees 25 mph. M/C tire ??? In your shoes, would I, "Yes." I've been told there is a risk for the plug to come out. Running multiple times in excess of 120 mph in a patrol vehicle and I haven't had a problem. Next week I may end up on the Patriot Guard website, but I'm comfortable with it. (dead or alive)
23. Does anyone know for sure if the front seat (ultimate) will work with the stock rear on 05 and up. Also, has anyone mated a utopia backrest with a ultimate seat? If the two seats won't match, can you tell why? I know their website says, "no", but others have posted they think they will.
24. If it makes you feel better...my supervisor was telling us he went to an oil spill class bout five years ago. The one thing they figured out was nature does a better job of cleaning up oil that we as humans do. They took an area cleaned by hand and left another area alone and in time the area left alone was in better shape than the area that was cleaned. Hazmat and D.E.Q. has a better understanding on all this....odd though you never see them on the evening news, just some pour shrimp boat captain and how much money he's lossing and the,"where's my check" crowd. Chief, thanks for your work....maybe we crossed paths 15-20 years ago.
25. Was surfing today and saw where HD has their 2011's out. One was the Road Glide Ultra with the 103 ci standard. If only money was no object or atleast if I had that much to spend.
