  1. I've been impressed with Yamaha's chrome...no rust or flaking issues...the chrome forks still clean up nice with 24k miles of bugs and debrie.
  2. Our troop works atleast one fatality a year with the scenario you guys are talking about. I worked one last year, older guy (late 40's) turns left in front of a sport bike. The motorcycliest locks up the brakes, lays it over onto its left side and slides into the rear wheel of the truck. The motorcycliest died on impact. It's like they say with deer running across the road, if the motorcyclies had braked (without locking up) and swerved to the left, I think it would have been possible to miss the truck. Its a hard thing to do to turn into something, human nature is to turn away from it or panic. Note: He was also running 12 psi in the front tire. Me personally, I'm against deliberately trying to lay it down (not a natural response for me). Your 100% gonna crash, I'll take my chances trying to bob-n-weave.
  3. They will, I think you have to add the "L" bracket or something. I know several on here have put the RSV pillow top on the RSTD. I know what you mean by the Mustang...I sold mine for the same reason, not much butt room.
  4. Corbin, Ultimate, Comfort Cruise (yamaha), Mustang (which your already have). The stock seat is horrible unless you send it to Rick Butler (classifieds- Butler Mod) The stock seat will kill your tailbone, Rick cuts it down and re-covers it with memory foam for $40 and does a very good job.
  5. That is sharp....I some times think thats the direction the 1st gen should have went instead of re-inventing the wheel.
  6. Right now I have the Butler Mod with a set of beads (bead rider's), pretty good combination....to me they work alot better than the air-hawk on a soft seat. You don't get that bunched up feeling under you plus the beads seem to make a soft seat feel alittle firmer where your not sinking into it or bottoming out. On a hard (firm) seat I felt like the bead rider's aren't comfortable.
  7. Kuryakyn Transormer II Passenger floorboards....JP catalogs has them 360-099, they're for a Electra-Glide and RK...may fit the RSV.
  8. I bought a 2 man tint from wal-mart because it would fit in the saddle bags...alright for 70 degree weather, any cooler and its useless. I'm scared to try it in the rain. I've pretty much have given up on it..sleeping on the ground even with an air mattress has gotten old quick. Cabelas has a cot tent I really like but one would have to have a trailer to store it. I really like one of the above posts on using a hammock and stretching a tarp over it.....looks like the most practical and comfortable.
  9. Seeing you've tried three of them, how did you like the strat? Saw a couple come through town this afternoon on one with a trunk. It looked pretty nice. When I bought my RSTD, they a Strat for the same price and I had a hard time chosing. I wanted cruise and the ergonomics felt better on RSTD.
  10. What ever you say on here I would think would be safe...I personally don't email and drink (almost got fired)
  11. Jeff, I live bout 30 miles west of Natchitoches....if ya get in a bind, just holler. Other than that, I know of a good bbq joint in Mansfield if ya are heading back that way into Texas on 84 (open thru, fri, sat). The one in Clarence isn't any good, no matter what anyone says.
  12. For times like that (dark and raining) I wish the RSTD had came with Hazards switch. Dave, at VLSUSA.com, they have the whelen TIR4's for $49.
  13. We have the Sena wireless headset...works pretty good at speeds at or less than 60 mph, above that the wind noise gets loud (but, I also have short shield). We also found out a 3/4 helmet with the face shield worked the best (I had to modify my helmet from all the windnoise to make it quieter)
  14. I would look for any missing bolts...the empty cavity could be the culprit.
  15. Can you rate the difference in having the fairing vs the shield on wind protection, etc and any other notable difference.
  16. They already have the 2011 out...looks the same as the 2010.
  17. I agree with the others....I did it for 12 years and got my training through the military. What I saw along the way: 1. I'm personally against driving schools, I think they are a rip-off. I personally think you would be better off finding an owner operator (willing) and paying him to train you, times are hard and it would be easy money for him. 2. Be very leary with companies that have "want ads" on the back of their trailers. They usually abuse their drivers the most and have a huge turnover rate. 3. I'm also against companies like werner or swift that say they will train you and then give you a job. You'll work for nothing for a LONG time and will most likely not get home for a long time. 4. Here lately, I've HEARD guys are doing good with hot-shot rigs with all the gas drilling in nw louisiana (your area may be different). Something to consider, easy to drive with no special training but, you will need a cls A cdl. (anything over 26k lbs, most hot shot trailers have a gvwr of 20k and a dually has 11k to 12k gvwr). Then again, if you can find a friend with one and willing to pay him to let you use it to get your license its alot cheaper than a school. (It may be something to look into it) If you go this route, get a current Motor Carrier Regulation Book and study up. 5. Like Tom said, there are some good companies out there, but your at the bottom of the list with no experience and those jobs are gonna be out of reach for atleast 3 - 5 yrs. There are small companies out there that will work you. Like Ruffy said, try to find a local company to get your feet wet and still get home at night. When I got out of the military I asked a local co in Summerville SC if they would let me ride with them for experience (I already had my cdl). It worked out great on my days off and when I got out of the military I went straight into a job hauling equipment. I was like a pig in slop and loved it. Kinda like what Captain Phil said, "you got to want it and be willingly to work for free to get into it."
  18. Was looking around at Custom Dynamics website and saw they have the 7" LED headlamp and 4 1/2" LED passing lamps...(Sorry, I have no clue how to load a website).
  19. My 06 does the same thing...I had the clutch basket replaced this past spring and it reduced the whine alot. Its fairly quite going up through the gears, but its pretty noticeable when downshifting just as your friend has described. From all the posts I've read, nothing to worry about and probably not much you can do with it.
  20. We're bout the same size and weight...if you happen to come through northwest La. will you holler at me? I'd like to look at one before I order one.
  21. Maybe its just me, I've NEVER seen feeding deer on the side of the run up and run across the road when they were approached. All the times I've seen them running onto the road, they came out of the woods, field, etc in a full run as if from someone or something was chasing them. Unlike cows and horses who to me are very unpredictable.

    Want!!

Pretty cool until your shoe laces get caught up in it...lol
  23. If I was in the market for a used RSV, I would definitely consider Stardog502's '09 or Wander's '08. Both are listed in our classifieds at exceptional prices (not midnights though).
  24. The denali led's are small and square (expensive)....they had a write up em several months ago in webbike.
  25. Sounds like a Red Sovine moment....
