You never know when your time is up.....me personally I want to go on a warm partly cloudy day with a light breaze and my wife holding my hand laying in the grass with the smell of grass and flowers in the breeze. Its also interesting to want to know the rest of the story (Paul Harvey). Bad things happen to both, good and bad people!

As far as switching to a synthetic oil, I did around 75k miles. Mainly because I put about 2500-3500 miles a year on my truck. It may set of a week or so before being cranked and I only have to change the oil once a year. I just rolled 100k and have not had any issues with the engine.

Windshield Advice Needed
jfoster replied to BG Hawks's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I had my original cut down and had no issues with it afterwards. I then wanted something else and went with the Clearview shield. I got the tallest one with the recurve. For me the tallest one was too tall and the recurve would hold condensation making it very hard to see through in a fog. I had it cut down and have been pleased with it. Also, the Clearview is wider and if its one of their tall shields it will push alot of air. There also has been some issues with guys having to wait on their orders and trying to make contact with their customer service. If you don't want to cut it yourself, your local glass dealer can do it. Mine charged around $25. I found it better to make a template and mark it where I wanted with a sharpie and have them do the cutting. -
Warranty will replace it one time. It's well worth having it done. My 06 was pretty bad and I put it off for almost two years. After having it done, its not completely quite, but very tolerable. Some have had dealerships give them the run-around and have tried to play it off as something else. Me personally, I went in and told them it had a bad clutch whine and advised them that I was told yamaha would replace it. The service manager contacted yamaha and they sent a new I basket and swapped em out at no charge.

All I'm saying is my bike did the same thing the original poster described. The fuel guage indicated that it was near having to switch it to reserve, which it was already on reserve and within couple of miles it was out of fuel. You say I didn't make any sense...how else can I say it. It ran out of gas unexpectedly, the fuel gauge gave a false reading of bout 30 miles, it only happened that one time. I personally think I got a tank of gas with E10 and it burned up alot quicker. I use one of the trip odometers and the fuel gauge and both indicated I had atleast 30 to 40 miles of fuel left when it didn't. My point is you can watch your fuel gauge, gps, a sun dial, whatever...S--t happens. As originally posted...thats why I quit running on reserve.
-
That's all great of your getting consistent fuel (maybe it has nothing to do with fuel)....for what ever reason, every once in a while i'll get a tank of gas that will be gone in 130 miles at normal riding speeds. So in respect, if your running on reserve to try to keep your fuel petcock cleaner, the odometer, gps, warning light, and fuel guage can all leave you short 30-40 miles and out of fuel. Not a big deal, unless your on a stretch of road with fuel stops spaced 40 miles apart.

I got my step-dad the Streamlight TLR-2 C4 LED/lazer for his Glock 22...he loves it. He doesn't have to worry bout aiming other than putting the red dot on what he wants to hit. It probably wouldn't work for a concealed weapon but for home defense I would recommend it to anyone. Easy to operate and with the LED version the batteries should last a while. Plus the LED is so much better than the standard steamlight bulb. The also have the lazer thats built inside replacing the plastic rod inside the spring and uses the side release to activate it. I haven't played with one...on accuracy.

I have the RSTD, if I had it to do again I would have gotten the RSV. I really like the fairing on the RSV for the protection, radio, etc. and would have removed the trunk, but to have it for overnite trips would also be a plus. I think a trunkless RSV would be hard to beat...regardless of how far you ride. If I sold mine today I would most likely buy Stardog's '08 (classifieds)
-
As far as I know they are....some of the older turn signal lenses are amber, other than that the RSV's and RSTD's are the same...the only ones that are different are the 1st generation.

Headlight ring....
-
Those are bout $100 cheaper than custom dynamic!
-
I know there's a plug under the seat of the RSTD (maybe the same on a RSV). Couldn't you plug them into that? I know I've got two leds mounted under my saddle bags and that's where I plugged em into, they come on with the key. What was the plug original designed to power?

If I had the passing lamps on mine I would definitely have them (low draw on the electrical system, probably won't ever burn out). I love the looks of a clear lense with a halogen bulb, but these are so much more efficient and provide better daytime visibility. A week or two ago, custom dynamic had the led headlight and as of this past weekend, I couldn't find it anymore on their website.

I may have missed it in the everyone's comments....Question, is ethanol in all three grades or just regular 87 octane?
-
I agree with Condor...on the stores equipment and tank maintenance. I doubt they have bad fuel, they get it from the same terminals as every one else (plus or minus additives). As someone else may have said, I don't buy gas when I see a fuel tanker dumping fuel. They're (tanker driver) is supposed to check the water level in the tank before unloading. I think it used to be around 3-4" of water when they had to pump it out. Most tanks probably have 1-2" of water in them at the bottom.

Your right, its not a reliability issue. They're kinda like the old Mack trucks...you can't tear it up.- 13 replies

Some have reported that their's don't have the whine....if this one doesn't there's no need to have anything done to it. If it does seem like an issue, Yamaha will change it out ONCE under warranty.- 13 replies

If the dealer won't be straight with you on the warranty...1-800-983-4500 is their assistance line. With the VIN they should be able to give an exact date the warranty expires. Like others said, the whine is the one thing they can't fix...they can make it better by replacing the primary (clutch basket) but it won't completely go away. If your lucky and are tone deaf then it won't be an issue. At 9k may be why the original owner got rid of it. I would test ride it...if its there you should here it through the top four gears at 25, 35, 45, 55 mph...and on deceration. Mine was pretty bad but after the changing out the clutch basket it made it a big difference, not completely gone but tolerable. Also don't expect great fuel mileage...my RSTD averages 35-38 mpg. Some claim to get in the low 40's on RSTD's and RSV's. Other than that I think they build a very reliable and quality product.- 13 replies

I've got a '00 Honda Rancher, I don't ride it much and here lately it'll crank right up, but once the fuel is consumed out the carburator it goes dead. I'm doing the Seafoam treatment and some WD40 through the intake. I think the float was stuck and now it seems to be working (maybe) While its idling I can watch the fuel line from the tank go empty through the glass filter...it gets just enough to idle and nothing more. I've pulled the fuel line off and have good flow. I've checked the breather tube on the gas cap and its open. I've drained the bowel on the carburator out several times. Any advise on what to check next (would a poor vacuum cause this) or should I break down and find a mechanic. Thanks for ya's input.

I have the kruzer kaddy (I think that's what it's called) all chrome $40...have no complaints, holds 12-20oz bottle, sunglasses, ear-plugs, and phone.
-
You'll see the difference if you get em side by side...the front end is all chrome on the midnight and S models, and the housing for the switches are chromed. Other than that the rest is the same. Supposedly the midnight and S models are worth $500 to $600 more.
