High RPM Missfire
Sheradan replied to Sheradan's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Plugs are new, but wires are not. That could be an issue. The sensor hooked to carb #2 checks out fine. Where can I get new wires, or test the ones I have? -
Just getting this 83 put back together. The carbs were off, cleaned, 1 new diaphram and slide. All carbs look good. The sync looks good although vacuum seems a little low (29-30hg). Idles great, starts great. When I take it up to 4500-5000 rpm (in driveway, not on road) it starts to miss fire. It appears to be on the 3-4 cylinder side. Any ideas?

About 15 years ago I did the Saddlesore 1000. 1000 miles through Northern California in 18.5 hours on a 83 Venture Royale. It was mostly mountain roads. Good Times! -
Fried Positive Cable
Sheradan replied to Sheradan's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I think I'll remove the starter and have a look. It's always been a little slow. The strands on the battery cable were looking like they had been damaged, but that could have been from burning. I may just make a cable and get the starter checked out. There is a guy here locally that rebuilds starters. Sure wouldn't hurt to have it checked out. -
Fried Positive Cable

I somehow knew I maybe making something custom for this. That seems to happen alot with these bikes. -
I know they made a Standard Venture & a Royale in 1987. I assumed that was the difference.

Putting my 83 back together yesterday was going quite well. When trying to start it, the positive cable started smoking. Upon closer inspection, I could see it needed replacing some time ago. Any idea where to get one with the main fuse cord and all that??

I've trailered bike at least 100 times (racing etc.) and never tied down the rear. If the handlebars are tight (forks compressed) it isn't going anywhere.

Bluetooth Wireless set/communications

I plan on using the Scala Rider Q2 set up. I was going to put a power plug in the trunk for a DC charger. Anybody see a problem with that type of set up? I have an inverter I used for a lap top that converts DC to AC. That way I can use the charger and the inverter is only about 4X4X2 inches.- 34 replies

I know how it is. This is my second bike. It's perfect for the rough rural roads around here. -

The wife and I were in Tofino on our 83 Venture during our honeymoon in 1999. Beautiful place. Would love to see it again sometime. Is the "Tough City Inn" still there? -
MJ was a freak plain and simple. Talented yes. But a Freak. Changing yourself from a black man to a white women had to take it's toll physically. Farrah was the first blond love of my life. I'll never forget her.

Same here. I run 40lbs in rear and at least 60 in the rear suspension. I've put 10's of thousands of miles on Metzlers and never had a problem. I really like mountain roads, so I really use the edges on mine.

If they don't make big changes, I'm going with a Voyager. It addresses the things that bothered me about the gen 2 Venture. I want a F.I. motor (would prefer the 4 cyl) and a frame mounted fairing. The Voyager has it, the Venture does not. And at $17k the Voyager is very attactive. Please Yamaha, don't let me down. My 1983 can't live forever.

As a truck driver of 20+ years I can tell you that being next to a rig is the most dangerous place to be. If something happens in front of me, I will go sideways if possible. If I hit something straight on, someone will die, me or them. By going to the side, at least it give everyone a chance. DO NOT cruise next to a big rig.

Having a ride/weekend ruined is not worth it to me. I have done it only in an emergency. Think about it, is it really worth it? Does it really save that much?

Just got my carb stick (manometer) from Saber. $46 shipped. Buy from there ebay store NOT the web site. Saved me $20.

How about a gen1 hitch?

Once you spend a week pulling a Bushtec, you will see why they cost as much as they do. No bouncing, hopping or wagging. Smooth on corners due to swivel connection. You will not wish you had not purchased the Bushtec. Do it right the first time.
