A few different sites that I just looked at all list the 99-present RSV as having a 97 or 98 HP engine in them - am I missing something? http://www.venturerider.org/history.htm#1999-Present

I used the 'Velcro' strips and stuck it to the bottom center of my windshield. I haven't had any problems with it. I don't use it often, so I don't mind it being on the windshield, and I tuned out the Velcro strips a long time ago. edit - Actually, Pennsylvania does have MC specific EZ passes. They're good for a 25% break on tolls in the state (thank ABATE of PA) - if you don't have one specific for the motorcycle, you need to get one. It'll have a big green sticker with "MC" on the side that faces the overhead transponder.

Yes, it does now come in a full synthetic. -
Car engine oil for the RSV ?
whanna replied to FL-Venture-Rider's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
In relation to the API circle: I was looking at oil the other day and noticed something. Amongst the same 'model' of oil (say regular Castrol generic auto oil) the 10w-30 says energy conserving, but the 10w-40 does not. I also have always touted the dangers of the 'friction modifiers' in auto oil, but it seems that the energy conserving label is NOT all telling. I noticed this across brands, so it isn't Castrol or Rotella or Valvoline alone. It would seem that 10w-40 and up is 'not energy conserving' due to the increased viscosity. In any case, yes - Rotella is my fallback oil when I don't feel like experimenting with something else. Oils made for diesel engines seem to be the best bet (for auto oils), but I'm still trying to find a good synthetic that I know will work. Some have suggested Castrol but I haven't been able to find the exact 'model' that has been thrown around. Back to lurking... -
Wow, it's been a while since I've seen THAT cell phone! I owned one, but that was 7 or 8 years ago, maybe more?! I have a cup holder and a Sirius receiver on my handlebars now, and am getting ready to add a Zumo 660, which I don't see as causing any problems with sightlines to the dash lights. What other accessories would you be looking at adding that would require more space - gauges (be nice if they were factory, wouldn't it?!), cell phone holder? I wonder how hard it would be to 'adjust' that bar to make it work? If it's too long, I'd think a trip to the vice for a meeting with the hack saw would make it just the right size. If too short, I wonder if you couldn't fabricate some clamps to hold a piece of aluminum tubing? My $0.02...

I was at AutoZone earlier and took a picture of that $7.99 unit, guess I don't have to post it now! The stud/post is the positive side of the equation. Whatever you hook up to the unit will connect to the terminal adjacent to the fuse (+ or red wire), and then just ground the black wire of the device (horn, lights, radio, whatever) to a suitable ground point. Circuit complete. Red is positive (+) and black is negative (-). The fuse box will provide six positive feeds, the bike's frame will provide the negative feed. Make sense? I hope so.

I picked one of these up at Advance Auto for $7 or so. Big fuse between it and the battery if you mount it more than 12" from the battery, just to make sure you're not sitting on a bomb waiting on a chafed wire... Edited - try this one? http://tinyurl.com/cdk97s

No doubt, which is why I went straight to the manufacturer for the answer, and will likely order from Garmin as well. Thanks for the info. I'll see if I can't find something. Here's hoping!

I received this from Garmin on Monday, based on an e-mail I sent them on Friday inquiring on a ship date for the Zumo 660 (website still states "we can't sell it yet 'cause the FCC says so"): ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dear William Hanna, I can't confirm that date but the retailer's are scheduled to start ordering within the next 30 days................ With Best Regards, Brian K ------- Original Message Follows: ------------------------ Is there an update on the release date? I see that Amazon is anticipating April 10, though your website states that it is waiting on FCC release. Thanks in advance, I'm antsy! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I'm leaving for a trip in less than a month and want to have this unit as far in advance as possible - my first GPS and I want to make sure I get it mounted in a suitable location and am familiar with how to use it - I don't want to figure all of that out while missing good scenery and camaraderie, not to mention making us a hazard to others on the road while I play. Cougar, let me know if you get yours and who you ordered it through (are you a Garmin employee?!?!) as I'll want to jump on that wagon REAL fast. Or am I reading into that, and you ordered a 550, not the 660? Thanks! Oh, and he's saying he can lose the external XM Roady as the 550 has XM built in (just need an antenna and a subscription - I assume the existing antenna can be used, and transfer the subscription to the new 'radio'). So it would clean up the handlebars a bit. I have Sirius, so the 660 not coming with an XM radio inside doesn't matter to me and if I save a few dollars because of it, even better.

I have a Scorpio alarm unit on my Venture as well, and I like it a lot. The pager doesn't work in my office (distance, concrete, slot machines between the bike and me), but it's worked at Olive Garden with gawkers (I know it's the best looking bike out there but please - leave some breathing room for her!) and once when I lived in the apartment, I think a Crow landed on/near the bike, triggering the alarm. I second the thing about the guy now buying a house - that was a 'must' when my fiancee and I were house shopping a year ago - minimum of a one car garage (well, a three bike garage, but I've put three bikes and a car in there already!).

Pennsylvania - Philadelphia has so much to offer (Liberty Bell; old, grand churches; many other historical items; cheese steaks!). Hershey for a tour of the chocolate factory (not the REAL factory, but the tour is free). Gettysburg, of course. Little Grand Canyon (north central of the state). You could certainly find something to do pretty much anywhere in this state (or almost all of the others, I would think), just depends on how your route takes you. If you're going to NJ and then Baltimore, Philly is the obvious answer. If skirting through the southwestern corner from Ohio, you have Pittsburgh not too far away, and then you're in WV, MD, VA, etc. PA is large enough to have quite the diversity from one end to the other, plenty to see and do. Enjoy your trip(s)!!!

Thank you for everything that you guys do over there (and over here). I'm proud to be an American thanks to fine folks like you.

Want to make another?

Exactly what I was thinking. Even a Heritage Classic would be a better bike than a Sportster. It would fit you better, be more comfortable, look better, and go more than 90 miles before needing to stop for gas. Or is he just upset that you aren't on a girl's bike (stereotypical comment, no offense meant towards anyone)?

I put one of these on the back of my 2nd Gen last spring and it works great. If this is the same one (same body but a few different wiring options are available), you have a tail as well as brake option. The tail light is the outer two LEDs plus the center. When you hit the brake, you get all of the LEDs lighting up. Pretty bright, and on my 2000 RSV (red on red), the lens makes it blend right in. I saw a clear lensed one on Saturday on a silver RSV, and it also blended in quite neatly. http://www.customdynamics.com/trailer_led_light_bar.htm#Slimline_Stop,_Tail,_Turn_Light_ FWIW

Better check your bolts!
whanna replied to waterbug's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
If you do lose a shifter bolt while on the road, I've heard that the dummy bolt on the side-cover(s) is(are) an exact fit. Good to know if you're miles from nowhere and enjoying the ride. -
I'm new on this particular forum, but might be interested in attending as well (+1 rider).
