For sure - do not go by yourself!!! The border towns are bad enough for theft of cars/bikes - not a good idea to go by oneself. A friend of mine had his truck stolen close to the border while he was in CHURCH!!!

Vibrates going up hill in 5th gear

Hopefully you mean 4th? -
Wow - good stuff, beautiful scenery - thanks

Well - I'll stir it up a bit. I went from a Venture to a Tour Deluxe. Personally, I found the ride quite similar and I also found the RSTD much easier to handle at slow speeds and not nearly as top heavy. Now, if you want the trunk, fairing, radio AND the thrill of a new bike - ok. But as far as ride is concerned, IMHO there ain't much difference. Eugene

I presume you mean the 350c? That's what I have. I can't comment on the 500 except I felt that the slightly smaller size might be more convenient for me. I've mounted mine with the RAM mounts on the handlebars and switch between the bike and the car. Easy to use, lots of features and I have not had any vibration problems. I had a friend hard wire the bike for me and all I can tell you is that I am very happy with the unit. Good luck with your decision. Eugene

I'd sure support that idea - especially listing the MANY positives first. Eugene

Just had mine done (Ont, Canada) and it came to $120.00 (that includes our illustrious 14% taxes) - sooooooo - not too bad for a couple of hours in the shop. ps - the Can/US dollars are pretty close right now. Eugene

"I" basket conclusion
Eugene replied to labeldave's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Hey Gary - many thanks for the tip. I may just do that - I love this bike and if they can at least tone it down a bit, I'd be ok with it. I just find that after a few hours of riding, it gets truly tedious and distracts from the pleasure of riding and scenery. I know, try to ignore it but..... Anyhow - nice to hear from you and thanks again, Chatham isn't that far from me so I may just give it a try. Eugene- 48 replies

I too have the Iway 350 - I've mounted mine on the handlebars with a RAM mount. I have an RSTD. So far, 13,000 KM later, I have never had a problem - I do switch it back and forth from the bike to the car. Never had a "blackout", never had a vibration problem. This may not help you much - just to know that handlebar mounts do work. Cheers

Yup - me too - I have an 06 RSTD and so far 3 dealers have told me they have never heard of this problem. I referred them to this site - yada, yada yada - the story and headaches continue. I too have tried to ignore the whine/chirp but I have started to look at Honda and Kawasaki. Too bad - the Yamaha is a beautiful bike and runs great but there is no way, after a year of listening to this whine that I am keeping this bike. Having bought the "top of the line" bike - its inexcusable to have this problem and even worse, trying to get it fixed - not worth the headaches anymore. The positive news is that I have been reading on this site for a year - what a great group of people!!! Cheers Eugene- 48 replies

I picked up a bottle of Hertel?? (Can.) Costs about 2.79 Cdn. Basically, you mix a capful with warm water, wash - don't rinse off and let dry - works great! Not sure if I got the name just right but I found that with washing in the shade, no rinsing etc, I can clean my bike of bugs, road dirt etc in about 15 minutes. Sure feels strange to see a soapy bike dry to a nice clean finish. Cheers Eugene

I was thinkin' this - glad you brought it up!!!

Thanks for the comments so far folks. I do understand that the weight difference between the two is not much (40 llbs or so) - was just wondering about the balance/handling comparison. Thanks again. Eugene

Hi folks - does anyone have experience riding both of these bikes? I do believe my RSV will be a write-off so I will be looking at a new bike. Much as I love the RSV, I do find it a bit top-heavy and was wondering if the Tour Deluxe suffers from the same? I know there are "some fixes" for the RSV handling but I'd still like your comparison opinions first. I thank you in advance for any comments. Eugene

My regrets - I too have lost my best friend recently - an 11 year old Chow. Pets are marvelous companions - always giving unconditional love.
