  1. :clap2::clap2: Why do you think I want one??? That's definitely one of the reasons!! I'm currently working on getting it.
  2. Difference between Roady2 and the xt is size of the unit. The Roady2 is smaller. I have one. But most accesories for them will fit both. As for how to tie it into the sound system, you might try a cassette adapter. I'm not sure if that would work on a RSV [i don't own one YET!] but the adapter plugs into the audio out on the sat radio and the cassette part goes into the cassette player. No wire cutting needed. The hubby uses this for his Sirius radio in our F150 truck. In fact we had to do it this way as Sirius/xm said either that or do a direct wire into the truck's radio. Seems the FCC took some of their broadcast strength away sometime back and any radio made before a certain date had to be modified. Any radio made after that sometimes has problems getting it's signal thru to the vehicle's antenna and into it's sound system without a direct connection. Since the install on the truck would have been more than the price of the parts needed and the radio, we went with the cassette adapter. The sat radio in my car uses the audio in/mp3 outlet that is built into the car's sound system. There are motorcycle specific mounts for sat radios. You just have to find the one that fits your radio. I used to carry my Roady2 around in a fanny pack with the antenna stuck to my mirror stem while the radio was plugged into my old bike's 12v power point. The fanny pack was buckled around the base of the handlebars. In those days, I used earphones plugged into the radio to listen to it. BTW the Roady2 has available a portable battery pack that you can stick the radio into. It has the antenna built into the headphones that come with it. I have 2 of those! Great for when you're outside and want to listen to something on the radio without being stuck near an electrical outlet. They don't get used much these days as our primary sat radios are all Sirius. We follow NASCAR and that is a $5 a month add on if you are on xm
  3. And I could say "Like Husbands"!!!
  4. I'd prefer to listen to the radio thru helmet speakers. I have never ridden a bike with front mount speakers so I have no real idea on how well they work or how clearly you can hear them. But I have a case of tinnitus and believe me, hearing anything with that can be fun at times. Add in that one of my "hobbies" is listening to audio books [great for road trips!], being able to hear something clearly is almost a requirement. I've always ridden with headphones and was planning on mounting the basic helmet speaker set that Chatterbox has so that I could listen to a radio on my 650. Squidley was kind enough to wire a 12v powerpoint into the bike so I now have a power source for the darn thing. Since I may need to mount something else there [hopefully!], that maybe on hold for the moment, providing I can find a system for flip face helmets as I currently wear a HJC SyMaxII. It looks like I've got more research to do. I've got to find, sooner or later, the right set up for the bike. I'm trying to decide if I should get a set for rider/passenger or just for myself since as things stand now, I'll be the only person riding the bike. The hubby at present is not a rider and I'm going to have enough "fun" supporting an 800 lb bike without adding his chubby hide to it. The problem with the rider/passenger set up is that as I have no one person riding pillon with me, I won't be able to have a particular size helmet available for that person's use. Questions questions questions! OH FUN!!
  5. I agree! A neat lil ding a ling! And Heavy!!
  6. I've been offered an '08 RSV. I WANT IT! Outside of getting the financing for my new toy [always fun], I'm looking at what other stuff I'm going to need for it. Top of the list is a helmet/headset set up so I can use the cb/cassette deck. 650 Customs don't come with these lil goodies. I have not gotten anything of the kind installed on my Wee Beastie as yet so I don't have any of the gear needed for this. All of my research into RSV's has been into the bike itself and not the add ons/oem equipment like the radio/cb systems. I don't know if the current owner's gear will fit me [providing he'll sell it] so I'm looking at what I need to get for it. Oh Fun! Any help, info, suggestions, etc. would be appreciated. I will be figuring out a way to install a Sirius Sat Radio on the bike and adding that to the sound system. Normally I will ride with either a full or flip face helmet but that might change when I'm finally behind a full fairing/windshield. But I won't be riding in anything less than a 3/4. Here's hoping everything works out and I'll have my new wheels in time for my so-called vacation this summer!
  7. That law has been in effect here in Texas for awhile now. I'm all for it. BUT I've been in the situation where the idiot that was in the inside lane was in my blind spot and I couldn't see him to get over for a county mounty. I could tell he was not a happy camper as I was going slow enough for him to tell me to "move over!!" As for what a fast moving vehicle can do to something it passes. . . . I was pulling my flatbed trailer loaded with hay. An 18wheeler came by me and the vacumn he created caused my trailer to fishtail my truck to the point where I ended up three lanes over before I got it stopped and under control. Fortunately for me, I was on a 5 lane highway [2 north-2 south w/ turnlane] and there wasn't much traffic that day. If I had been on something narrower - OUCH! OH FUN!!
  8. One bell ordered, money already on it's way.
  9. Wanna bet? I'd much rather fine Congress, Senate and House both, for every time they vote on party lines. Obama may be a mistake. I've thought most of the ones elected in the last 30 years were. But a Congress that is so locked into Democrat vs Republican is the major cause of most of the problems in this country. I don't know how many Jr Congressmen, from all over this country, have left office because they got tired of the infighting and nothing getting done. And I've no doubt there are a few Senators who have left for something along those lines as well. I've got a few other ideas to go along with that one but this IS a motorcycle forum, not a political blog, so I will leave them for another time and place. As for George Carlin and his 7 dirty words, he may have had a "fluent" way of expressing himself, but he quite often had something I thought was worth saying.
  10. I ride either MOTGATT or ATGATT myself. Standard gear for me is riding jacket [i have 3 different kinds], full/flip face helmet, gloves, jeans, and hikers. Long distance trips the jeans are changed to riding jeans, leather in the seat and armor in the knees, and/or chaps. Like Owen, I prefer to keep my face [and the rest of me!] the way it is.
  11. The hubby says he likes it because it gives him an extra hour of daylight after work to get something done around here. My statement is I'll believe that after I've actually seen him do some work around here after he gets off the job!
  12. Half of the maternal side of my family is Catholic. They either are or were members of the Church. Both my grandmothers on that side were raised Catholic. First grandmother never went back after she married my grandfather and my step grandmother went back when their daughter married a Catholic and joined the Church. My aunt was originally married in a civilian ceremony so she had to have a Church wedding. It was kinda interesting since she was several months pregnant at the time. I can still remember the priest who married them talking to my mother about her joining the Church. He classified her as a bastard since her parents were not married in the Church as well as I and my siblings since my parents were married in a Lutheran church and not a Catholic one. I lost all interest in joining the RCC after that! I left the Lutheran Church after having a "discussion" with my pastor basically over what was more important, my freshman year of high school or learning my catechism. Dummy thought my churchwork was more important. I haven't gone to church on a regular basis since. Ditto on dealing with "The Man" more directly since.
  13. I don't answer my cellphone if I don't know the number. If they want to talk to me, they can talk to the voicemail first. A neighbor friend of mine called me this morning from another friend's house. I didn't know that number so I checked the voicemail and called her back.
  14. WallyWorld carries it here in the States so you might check there as well. It's the good stuff!
  15. Bought myself a way early birthday gift, one of the Keurig coffeemakers. Interesting piece of equipment. I love the convenience of it, being able to have a cuppa whenever I feel like it without having to make half a pot to do it. I can have a different kind of coffee or tea with every cup. I can also use the "MyKCup" that came with it and have any kind of regular bag/can coffee as well so I'm not restricted to having to buy the sometimes highpriced prepackaged cups. It's also great for almost instant hot water for tea, soups, or hot cocoa. My coffee intake has gone way up!
  16. I've seen pics of a Road Star done that way. Any guesses on total cost? You can buy a RSTD cheaper than you can a RSV so depending on mod costs, that would be an option. Definitely has my curiousity going bigtime!
  17. Many years ago, I had the pleasure of meeting Sci Fi author Robert Adams at a sci fi con in Houston. A fascinating man with a wealth of stories that just did not quit, Adams was 3rd generation Army. Granddad had been the proverbial general. At the time I met him, he was under investigation for attempted murder. Seems he had shot a burglar as the thief was running out of his house. The local DA was the force behind the attempted murder charge. Adams' comment regarding that was that if he had wanted the guy dead, he would have been! From what I heard after, no charges were filed.
  18. The '08 black cherry over black is ok but I prefer the solid black cherry. One of the Houston group has one on which I already have first dibs. It's already lowered which I need in order to be able to ride one. It has also been made clear to me by both him and his better half that my getting it is a highly unlikely event! Oh well! Hopefully later this year, first part of next, I'll be getting mine.
  19. I went back and did some checking. Pro Collision in Springdale, Ark is one of the brokers who can handle third party sales thru Copart. Their fees are as follows: Registration: $25 Security deposit: $400 Transaction fee: $250 OR 5% of sale price, whichever is greater That means that any price for the bike under $5k, the total fees would be $275. Anybody interested???
  20. I've got no problem taking Brad and Lonna along for a trip if someone is interested in the bike and would be willing to cover expenses [gas, lunch, & a lil extra]. I have looked at doing something like this before when one of the Ark. facilities had a bike I was interested in. Fees for the third party on that was something like $200 and a percentage of the sale price if I'm remembering correctly. Total fees would have been less than $300 depending on what the bike went for. BTW the Houston outfit has a Can Am Spyder, clear title, no apparent damage, available. I'm having a serious case of "sit on the hands"!
  21. Assorted answers . . . To Mini Singer/songwriter/actor Paul Williams used to race in the celebrity pro-am series. He drove a green car with the number "1/2" on the doors and once said that he was the only racer he knew who needed 2 LA phone books on the front seat in order to be able to see over the dashboard!! As for Jr "sandbagging" at Daytona all afternoon, well!! You do that there and you end up dead last. Not second! It was quite an awesome move, 10th to 2nd in one lap! And wouldn't you know it, dear ole step momma Teresa was probably the only "racing" Earnhardt NOT at the track! Both of her "partners" in EGR were present. As for the Mustang pace car, I WANT ONE!! I loved that paint job. That particular car has been sold. In fact Richard Petty, who was driving it, was told not to let it get a scratch on it as it had been sold. Joey Legano[sp?] was able to take a Make-A-Wish kid he had with him for the weekend in it for a few laps around the track. Joey got it up to around 135 mph so the kid probably got the ride of his life.
  22. Not sure if anyone would be interested in this but I thought I'd mention it to the group. Some time back I got curious about one of the sponsors for one of the NASCAR teams, Copart. One of the things they do is handle auctions for wrecked/salvage vehicles. The selection of bikes that go thru the sales covers everything from 2 wheels on up, any kind of bike you care to name, atvs, etc. I've been kinda keeping an eye out for possibly finding something for myself as some of the bikes they sell have no apparent damage and are clear titled in addition to the salvage titled bikes. One of the bikes at the Longview, Texas facility is a 2009 RSV, the golden sand [whatever Yam. calls it] color. It has less than 1700 miles on it and has a Tx salvage title. The bike has been laid down on the right side. The passenger backrest looks like it's had a bite taken out of it. Right side spotlight is broken. Serious abrasions on the front fairing, windscreen, and the guard on the right front floorboard [whatever that is called ] . Little to no damage from the front floorboards on back that I can see outside of the passenger backrest. I don't have enough hands on experience with these bikes to be able to tell if anything else is damaged. I can't tell if there is any damage outside of the obvious. The listing shows repairs at $10k and says that the bike will start and run. Current high bid is $3600 with the sale ending date estimated as being around March 1st. If I had the cash, I'd take Squidley and his better half along for a lil drive and check it out but the bank account won't stretch that far right now. Depending on what else is damaged, it could be an interesting buy to say the least. I'm posting this here on the chance one of the group might be interested. There are a fair sized collection of pics on the Copart site. Unless you have a dealer's license or something similar, the bike may have to be bought thru a third party [i think Tx law requires it] so additional fees would apply. Copart has people/companies that handle that so it should not be a problem. The bike has my curiosity going. Just wish that I could do something about it!!
  23. DITTO!! But then some ACLU lawyer would come up with "cruel & unusual punishment" and the fun would have to stop! I'd like to see some kind of use for retired ships other than the scrap heap. The original USS Enterprise that fought so well in WWII was sold to it's primary enemy, the Japanese as scrap metal. Not fair to the ship or the men who served on her. I've been on the USS Texas. That baby is HUGE!! They used to fire off the big guns at noon every Sunday until the price for the 400+ lbs of powder needed became cost prohibitive. There are several groups who work to keep the old girl in preservation status. It's not cheap but the old girl is worth it.
  24. what I have?? MINE 2001 Ford F150 Supercab, the big V-8, Not fully loaded but close. gas mileage decent for that truck, around 15 mpg, 125K on the speedo ALSO MINE 2009 Nissan Versa hatchback, nicely equipped, rides nice, mileage avg. between 27-30. Bought so we'd have a vehicle that got better mileage than my truck for trips and for me to drive to work in. Will NOT buy another one. OEM tires went bald at 20k. Not a happy camper on that point along with some nit picky stuff I don't like about it that if I'd known about when I bought it, I wouldn't have done so. HIS 1998 S10 pickup, 25 mpg, 225+K miles on it & down for the count. He's driving my truck on his daily commute of 90 miles. Complains about the gas mileage but won't go looking for another S10/equivalent when what he would save on gas would probably make the payments on it! My comments are unprintable. What I want Ford F350 Crewcab Diesel 4x4 standard axle as I don't need a dually. Would love to have one of the King Ranch Ed.'s but hubby is death to leather seats. We have horses so we need a full sized truck. I want the F350 so that I can pull just about any trailer if I have to. Would also like to have a decent sized toy hauler so we could go on vacation with the bike! FYI I ride, he doesn't. As for him riding pillon with me driving, HIS comments would be unprintable!!
  25. As Arte Johnson used to say "VERRRRYYY Interesting!" That bike, and I'd be willing to bet it's the same one, sold on eBay just over a month or so ago for $11,500. It's the same model, color, mileage, w/Voyager kit, and for the same reason. It was the wife's bike and she'd had an accident to where she couldn't ride her own bike and would now have to ride two up with her hubby. If I could have figured out a way to pay for it, I would have bought it myself as that is exactly what I'm looking at doing with my own Venture {after I've bought one of course!}. Voyager kits run about $4k to $5k brand new. They have slightly different designs depending on which bike you have and can be interchangeble between bikes so long as both take the same model. All you would need extra in that case would be the mounting kit for the second bike. If you can find the right Voyager model for your bike used, you can save some serious bucks. The fun part about the Voyager kit is that your bike is a "trike" when you want it to be and a 2 wheeler when you don't want the "trike". BTW, full out trike kits start at about $10k and go up from there.
