  1. I missed this one!! Finally got back to work. Graveyard shift is a bear [among other things!] especially with the asst. mgr. I'm having to work with. I haven't been on the site for awhile and missed Don's post or else I might have made it. It will be a "fun" day as one of my mares is playing "escape artist" and we have to find a way to keep the lil brat where she belongs! Hope everyone pigged out and had a great time!!
  2. Nobody's bike should look as good as your own, except my 650! That ride I had on Owen's bike spoiled me. I want my own RSV! Congrats on the new wheels Buddy!! QUOTE=kbran;483220]Congrats Buddy. It almost looks as good as mine.
  3. As an ex scooter rider, I'm a big fan of them. I'm also working my way up to a RSV. I'm a fan of the Burgies and am thinking about getting one as a short trip bike after I get my Venture of course . I can reccommend a scoot as a first bike. I rode my Aprilia Atlantic 500 for 3 years and 17k miles. I went Texas to Illinois and back on it and had no problem keeping up with Interstate traffic. I've ridden the Hill Country [central Tx] on it in tandem with a group of 1000cc sport touring bikes and had no problem keeping up there either and we were not exactly obeying the speed limit . One gentleman I've met has 40k miles on his tricked out Burgie 650. A Houston friend is a full time Honda Silverwing 600 rider with 35k+ miles on it. They are FUN! They are a blast to ride. Good aftermarket support with the increase in popularity they've been having in recent years. My Atlantic was certainly easier to ride than my 650. I think that one of the bigger scoots would be a great first bike for the hubby that can be passed down to you when he feels ready to step up to something bigger. A Burgie 650, Silverwing 600, or the older model of the Aprilia Scarabeo 500, sister bike to my old Atlantic, [new version looks like a Vespa. UGH!] would make a great riding bike as well as a possible tourer. Something to think about! Who knows, he might decide that he doesn't need a RSV .
  4. Now just why would she have to adorn the backseat of your bike? Why can't she have her own bike!!! Why is it you men assume that all we want to do is ride pillon?? I'm the rider in my family, not the hubby. Besides, why should the guys have all the toys?!?
  5. Honda's version of the Spyder RS? Crossed on a MotorTrike TB Stallion?? Definitely some engineer/s having a few flights of fancy on a design board. But how do you get on/in the darn thing??? I'd rather have the Burgie.
  6. Owen Before or after you sell me the RSV?? My choices . . . Hmmmmmmmm In Yams Road Star Silverado S as I much prefer locking saddlebags to the standard ones. Got to do a demo ride on one of these a few weeks back. It came closer to talking me out of my getting a RSV more than anything else I've ridden. I got to ride Owen's RSV at Squid's open house so the Road Star is still in second place. Outside of Yams Can't ride any of the sport touring bikes as much as I'd like to have one. Can't ride a Goldwing unless it's triked. Can Am Spyder RT is a possibility. Can't ride the RS version as it's sportbike style seating position is murder on my hands. The Victory Vision is a possible. Haven't had a chance to check out the Cross Country as yet. Kaw Voyager is too tall. I can get more "toe" on the ground on a GW than I can on it. A scoot I've had my eye on is the Piaggio MP3 500. A variation of the reverse trike similar to the Spyder but in a smaller size. A friend who is a sport bike fanatic calls it "badass" and says that it is a blast to ride. I've done a demo on it's lil brother, the 250cc version, and I can get what he means. I may get one to replace my Wee Beastie with AFTER I get my RSV.
  7. If that's your choice, check out the Aprilia Scarabeo 500. Think 500cc Vespa [both are owned by the same company] and you'll have it in the new version. The "old" version was probably one of the better maxis for touring with saddlebags and top case. The "new" version looks like a classic Vespa scooter. NOT to my taste after I got a demo ride on one. Great for commuting. If I was living in Houston, it would be perfect. Light, very quick, could handle commute/hwy driving with ease. But a road/touring bike, it's not.
  8. Owen If I had wanted to steal your wheels, I wouldn't have left all of my stuff behind! You should also be aware of the fact that I will want another "test ride" every time I see you. That is until I can get my hands on that bike permanently!
  9. Boomer You touch that bird and I'll grind up what ever Lonna leaves behind when she's finished with you! A friend of mine's Dobe just luvs hamburger.
  10. That poor Quaker. Hope it didn't get toxic poisoning biting Boomer!
  11. NYC?? HA! Houston has bigger!!
  12. MAN! WHAT A PARTY! Had a great time. Finally got a piece of Lonna's banana split cheesecake and if there had been any more, it wouldn't have lasted very long and I'm not a cheesecake person. The three cheesecakes she made didn't make it thru dinner. Meeting Boomer was an interesting experience and I got to see where Lonna got her good looks from! Interesting development they're in, all doublewide homes with attached garages, big yards, trees, quiet streets. Not what you would expect to see in a mobile home park. Very nice! I also got to do a "test ride" on Owen's black cherry. Now I HAVE to get me a RSV. Makes me want to throw rocks at my Wee Beastie and was even better than the demo ride I did on a Road Star a few weeks back. I've got first dibs on that bike if he ever decides to sell it. I ended up taking a different way home. FM 1488 is being widened [finally!!] from Magnolia over to I45 and the patchwork quilt of road they are using while building the new had me bouncing all over the place. 105 is a better road in any case and I got to see how much has changed on the south side of Lake Conroe. Crowded is an understatement!
  13. I can't say how Rick's work affects the RSV seat as I ride a 650. But at the last maintenance day, I got to sit an 1100 Custom seat that Rick had done. GOOD LORD!! It felt so good! I'm used to sittin on a "brick". I have "spoken" to Rick about doing my 650's seat. In fact, it will probably be the very next mod done on the Wee Beastie. I think it will finally get that bike to where I can do some semi serious traveling on it. At present, I won't consider much more than doing a day trip on the "brick".
  14. Owen You be sure and bring "our" bike. I still want that test ride!
  15. Typical beanpole airhead mentality. Just because it may be a bit short for you doesn't mean they have to make it too tall for me!
  16. I thought I'd write up directions to the Squid's place thru Mapquest. Conroe is basically almost due east of me here in Brenham but Mapquest has me going down to Waller on US 290, and farther south down FM2920, back up FM2978 [going NE], and then onto FM1488 [going East] which I can pick up at Hempstead without having to go down to Waller. I'd luv to figure out just how many extra miles that is! After that I get on FM242 which is the main road just south of Brad's new place. Wunderful! Oh well! FM1488 basically runs East-West from Hempstead to I 45. Why I would need to go all the way south to FM2920 and then back up FM2978 to get to the same darn road??? Weird! Will be riding the Wee Beastie. Hubby [aka the Harry Beast] can bring the car if he makes it. C YA!!
  17. Sorry Don. I'll pass on that. I have to look at the Harry Beast on a daily basis. He has more than enough hair for me. Will try and get him to tag along on Saturday so you can see what I mean. Lonna If I do get him to come along, LOOK OUT! He is a major eater of cheesecakes. Looking forward to Saturday!!
  18. :amen: I'd also have to agree . . . . WHAT HAIR???
  19. COMING!! Trying to get the hubby to come along if he's off. Fun part of that is I'll want to ride the Wee Beastie and he'd have to come in the car. The way things have been going around here, I'll definitely need the R&R! C YA!!
  20. Tom What happened?? Larry have an accident?
  21. I ride MOTGATT or ATGATT all of the time. I also try to ride inside my comfort zone and that does not include riding like I'm invincible just because I'm wearing gear. The one serious laydown I've had, I came off my bike face first into gravel. I still have a face because I was riding in a full face helmet. I shredded almost the entire front of my rain gear. The only injury I had was a bruised hand from where it had hit the mirror stem as I came off. I probably wouldn't have had that if I had been wearing my armored gloves instead of my plain leather ones. I also follow the saying "ride like you're invisible". I ran across, almost literally, a Harley rider who was doing the exact opposite. He was riding like he was oblivious to all of the traffic around him. I very nearly ended up with him as a hood ornament. I was coming off the main highway in town onto the access road while he and his riding buddy were going down it. The off ramp has right of way with stop signs on both sides of the ramp as the access road has two way traffic on it. The dodo ran the stop sign while his buddy stopped. If I hadn't been watching him, I would have nailed his rear fender doing about 50 mph. He was in jeans and a t shirt, no helmet. Considering my low opinion of the local hospital, it would have served him right to end up in it! How you ride is a personal choice. Ride like an idiot and all the protective gear in the world won't save you. BUT It will increase your chance of survival. I've seen several cases where the only reason the rider is still around walking and talking is because he was in full gear. And at least one of those was bike only. There was no one to blame but the idiot on the bike. Riding is definitely a case of using your head at all times, not trying to prove how big it is.
  22. I was watching an episode of Superbikes awhile back. They were at a gathering of what I remember being Yammy sportbikes on the Tail of the Dragon. While they were taking a break and talking, a rider went by on his sportbike. He was wearing what looked like an Icon helmet and as far as the camera could see from the rear, nothing else. Everybody was doing doubletakes. That's a streaker!
  23. There's an add on for your helmet called "Quiet Rider". It's made of stretch knit material that adheres to the bottom edge of the helmet covering most of the opening. Once your helmet is on, it covers most of the opening, cutting down on the wind noise getting into your helmet. I'm planning on getting one for my new full face. I just wish I could use it on my flip face but it is not designed for that. Dennis Kirk carries them, among others. Price is around $20 I messed that up a bit. The stretch knit set up is called the Pro Line Windjammer II Helmet Wind Blocker. The Quiet Rider is on the same theme but with a somewhat different design. WebBikeWorld has done reviews on both.
  24. I'm coming! Any added goodies you guys need for the descending hordes? Sounds like the term "mob" is going to be a massive understatement!! If you need help getting set up, just yell.
  25. Full agreement here. For us, having the weekend off together isn't so much just to have time together as there is so darn much stuff around here that takes 2 people to handle. Working weekend days eliminates the help the hubby wants when he needs a second pair of hands and working weekend nights makes it hard for him to get anything done without waking me up. Something my bosses at Wallyworld can't seem to understand.
