  1. The hubby and I have been Sirius subscribers for YEARS [10+]. In fact, I've had both Sirius and XM at the same time. My current car radio is the Sportster IV. I'm still using my Sirius despite the fact that I could have gotten XM with the car [Nissan]. I luv it. I have the Starmate IV w/boombox in the house and am planning on mounting a permanent outdoor antenna when we get our new deck built. The Sportster is a good radio. Screen is easy to read and it has the rewind/pause feature so if you want to hear something over, you can. As for mounting it, a RAM unit would work. Also Directed Electronics, who makes/made most of the Sirius radios, used to make a motorcycle specific mount for it's radios. It included the mount, power cord and antenna. There's also a cup holder mount out there, but I'm not sure if it would work in an outdoor cupholder such as the bikes have. I can't say how crappy or good Sirius customer service is. We have our radios on an auto charge set up and the payments are made without us having to do anything. Never had a serious problem with any of the radios we have had over the years so we haven't had much in the way of contact with them. Have fun with Sirius. I don't listen to anything else!
  2. We've had to use dial up for years as living out in the country makes almost anything else impossible. Well Virgin went to unlimited usage on it Mobile Broadband To Go system for $40 a month. We've bought and use two of the sticks for a total of $80 a month. We're close enough to a major highway here in Texas to pick up the signals off the Sprint cellphone network which is what Virgin uses as it's carrier. I love it. I'm finally able to watch stuff in seconds that would have taken our old dial up forever to download if it was able to do it at all. The Virgin BTG sticks make it possible to go just about anywhere Sprint does without having to worry about finding a wifi hotspot. As for Dish/Direct, we have Dish Network here. We've had it for years and have had no problems with it. Good service and tech support. Signal strength in bad weather depends on your location in regards to the satellite you get your signal off of. We have 2 receivers, one single[his] and one dual[mine], both with HD, and mine has a dual dvr set up so I can record two shows at once which for me can happen quite often with my tastes in tv . BTW Dish Network has an affiliation with the WildBlue satellite broadband system if you'd rather go that way. The Virgin BTG sticks were both cheaper in start up costs [sticks are $80 ea.] as well as monthly fees [$80 for two as opposed to $100+ depending on service] and are portable where the sat broadband is stationary.
  3. Kreg What time are you guys planning on leaving Katy? I don't get off until 7am so even if I cage it, the earliest I could make Katy is 8-8:30. I'd like to go the back way too. 45 is a b***h and it doesn't matter what day it is.
  4. MAJOR THANKS to Ponch for taking on the Wee Beastie. He and the LilBit came up and met me when I got off work yesterday morning. We had a fun breakfast at the local Denny's and headed for my place to check out the bike. I knew it had gotten cold the night before but not so cold that the dew had formed ice drops on the seat! The Wee Beastie did not want to start so we loaded her up on the Squid's trailer and Ponch headed for home. Today carbs are cleaned out and new plugs installed. He's gotten it running but it's not running right so Ponch is still at it. Ponch
  5. You could always move down here! We ride year round.
  6. Found out why I didn't see Ponch's post. I always subscribe "daily update" on any thread I'm interested in or have replied to. For some reason, Yahoo has decided that a bunch of outfits I receive regular email from should now go into my spam folder! Funny thing is, it's not sending all of them there. I've gotten some of the thread postings in my inbox, but not all of them, so I missed Ponch's offer to work on the Wee Beastie but not Squidley's reply to it! Both dumb and weird at the same time. I also got a phishing email from someone on my Paypal account but for some reason, supposedly too many recipients [only one], Yahoo won't let me forward it to Paypal. I'll keep trying as those darn things are just too dangerous to let pass. Lunch [or maybe even dinner!!] offer for working on the Wee Beastie still stands!! Just let me know when you're coming!
  7. Just let me know when you want to come up and check out what's wrong with the Wee Beastie. If we can do it this weekend, I'll buy lunch!!
  8. HOW DID I MISS THIS POST??:confused07: ANY TIME!! I work graveyard shift Mon.-Fri. and am off on weekends at the moment. I'm usually still up in the weekday mornings [all day on Monday], sleep in the afternoon, and get up around 6:30 pm to do evening chores [16 head of horses!!] so any time that fits in with that is ok by me!! Minor it probably is but I'm no mechanic! If you want to have a go at it here, I can probably scrounge up enough tools to take care of things. Hubby has quite a selection, providing of course that he can find all of it!! You will get to see why I refer to my place as the "Junkyard Jungle". If we ever get this place cleaned up [and the Johnson grass knocked down!!], I plan on hosting a M-D. The hubby cooks a mean burger and I might even spring for some BlueBell since this is BB's home turf! As ever, all help gratefully appreciated!!
  9. I WANT TO GO!! BUT! the Wee Beastie is still being a problem. First thought it was bad gas, then bad battery, then blocked fuel filter. Replaced all of the above and still can't get it running!! May end up having to wait until next MD to get the darn thing fixed! Will probably end up caging it to Galveston, not my idea of fun!
  10. :97: me two!!!!!
  11. I have no garage/carport to protect the Wee Beastie so I bought a small greenhouse from Tractor Supply. Opaque white "tarp" walls, 6x8 with zipper doors in both ends. Ride it in and out, large enough that nothing touches the bike so hot pipes are not a problem. Big enough that I can do some work on it even when it's raining. Very easy to assemble and tie down. $200+/- for this one on sale. Mfg. has larger sizes available if this one won't fit a RSV. I'll have to get one of the guys to stop by and see if one will fit. Hopefully will save me having to buy a new one when I get my RSV. I'd use a cover but the local spider population likes them too darn much [i live out in the country]. Had one mechanic threaten to charge me for the can of insecticide he needed to get the ones that came out of my old scooter after it had spent a few weeks under it's cover when the job was keeping me from going out on it.
  12. When I had my Atlantic, I attended an open house at AF1 Racing in New Braunfels, Tx. These guys are Aprilia/Piaggio dealers and who knows what else by now. They are great guys and sport bike fanatics, not to mention one of the few outfits I'd trust just about any bike to. Micah, the head mechanic and sport bike guru, has even worked on my Custom although cruisers are a "foreign country" to him if you know what I mean. The open house was to celebrate their new location and finally getting their Aprilia dealership. I'd say 200+ bikes from all over the US and Canada to give you an idea of what kind of customer base this outfit has. One of the guys who came in for it was a lawyer from Nevada as I remember. Bob wasn't much over 5 ft tall and was quite something as I haven't seen too many people pulling a bike trailer with a Porsche! The open house ended with the group going to a track day at Texas World Speedway. I went strictly as a spectator and was watching Bob riding an enduro bike I couldn't have gotten my leg over without standing on something around the track at speeds I never would have even thought of trying. He couldn't touch the ground on that bike, wasn't even close, but he told me he had been riding for something like 20 years and had figured out how to ride what he wanted whether it was low enough for him or not. I won't ride a bike I can't sit on flatfooted. I've even been on some cruisers, most notably the Kawis, that while I can sit on them, the controls are too far forward for me to reach them. I can't ride any ST bike and the only full touring bike I can even come close to flatfooting is the RSV. My dream bike for something like 35 years has always been a Goldwing but neither the 1500cc's or the 1800cc's versions can be lowered so I'm completely out of luck there. Harley says I should be able to ride an Electra Glide [NOT!]. I have ridden Owen's '08 Black Cherry. He has a longer inseam than I do but still lowered his bike 1 inch front and rear so he could spread his legs out making the bike more stable for when his better half, Margaret, is aboard. I had no problems with it. I was completely flatfooted and had an absolute blast for the short time I was on it. In fact, the only bike that has even come close to that RSV was the Yam. Road Star I got to ride when one of the Houston dealerships had the demo truck visit[no RSV available]. If it were not for the fact that I want all the touring bike bells and whistles, I'd buy a Road Star and save myself a few bucks . Now all I have to do is find THE bike and figure out how to pay for it!!
  13. Missed another one!!!
  14. I'm in full agreement Annie. I'd love to be able to ride a FJR but I'm vertically challenged and can't ride ANY sport touring bike on the market [and I'd love to have one!!]. 32 in seat heights don't go along with 28 in. inseams. And lowering one as much as I'd need it to be would screw up the bike's ergonomics and I'm not putting out that kind of money just to muck up the bike! I've been told by a person whose opinion I respect that I'm a damn fool [basically] for wanting a RSV. That the bike will "take me for a ride". If I was walking into this blind, he'd be right. But I'm well aware that if the bike goes down, there's no way in H*** that I'll be able to stop it. 800 lbs of RSV against a 50's something, short, chubby housfrau, the bike will win. My last bike was an Aprilia Atlantic, a 500cc maxiscooter. In it's own way, just as top heavy as a RSV. That bike has given me a good idea of what I'm letting myself in for. And, like Annie and her trike, the plan has always been to put a Voyager kit on the RSV. Just a matter of when I can afford the darn thing!! Now if I could just get the hubby to get off his A** and get his license, I wouldn't have to worry about it!! BTW Annie, didn't I read somewhere that you're coming across a rather large pond to pay us poor Yanks a visit???
  15. I'd settle for the Harry Beast [if you see him, you'd understand the nickname!] getting his MC license. I'm the only one who rides in this family. One of the lesser reasons for wanting a RSV is so that I can be a passenger once and awhile! Just out of curiosity, how many FEMALE RSV riders are there out in the world? I'm not talking riding pillons, I'm talking us girls doing the driving!
  16. Agreed. I dose mine with Seafoam on a semi-regular basis using a 4oz squirt bottle I bought at WM. No problem at all to fill it and toss in saddle/handlebar bag when I head out for a run.
  17. More food!! One of those cheesy things being the banana split version I hope! Looks like I'll be caging it tomorrow. The Wee Beastie has a tummy ache and I'm not going to try riding it until I get it worked out. [will explain tomorrow] I'm also planning on doing some shopping in Houston after the gathering so the car is the better option. BTW if any of the group have a chance, please check out a RSV online currently in the hands of Cowboy HD in Austin. Even I can tell the bike is not stock but I'm curious to see/hear what all has apparently been done to it and what the collective thinks might be a good price for it. Asking price is $11K. They've got it listed on eBay and [thanks to me] actually remembered to post that it is still under warranty.
  18. I'm assuming this means breakfast [or at least some serious coffee] before heading down to Owen's place?? Where is this in regards to the 249/2920 intersection?? I used to live in the area but that was so long ago I don't want to think about it! So darn much has changed that I'm not sure where anything is these days.
  19. I AGREE!! I have managed to get ok'd for the Fri. before off so no coming down while being tired from having been at work all nite! YIPEEE!! Will bring some broccoli slaw like I brought to the first MD I attended. Good stuff and I don't have to worry about it falling off the bike like I did that chocolate cake I brought to Kreg's. Unless someone would rather have the cake [chocolate cherry]???? As far as equipment goes, I can bring my Craftsman lift [still in box] and the T shaped MC chock that Harbor Freight sells [also still in box] so that someone can stand his bike upright if needed while working on it. The hubby has finally bought himself a new car [Hyundai Elantra] so I've got my F150 back and I can use that to bring stuff down on Fri. before the meet. DEFINITELY counting the days!!!
  20. BRUMMPPP BUMP!! BTW OWEN You are aware that I want another "test ride" on "our" bike. I think I fell in love with it at Squidley's:173:. I've also got an idea about it and your better half that I want to bounce off you at the meet. I've put in for that Friday off so I don't have to work the night before. C YA!
  21. I was on my way down to Houston Saturday morning after work on some "birdie" business [long story] when I stopped for breakfast at the Chappell Hill Cafe. There were two bikes parked outside and one was a RSV. Well, me being me, I just had to go over and take a look. I'm standing there looking at the bike and the jackets draped across the seat and I'm going, "I know this bike". Sure enough, I walk in the Cafe and find Ponch and his better half sitting inside having breakfast. Just wish I could have gone with them, at least for the day. But the Wee Beastie is down at the moment. Maybe next time!
  22. The hubby is from that part of the state. Hometown is Prairie du Chien, Wis. Lovely roads, BIG apple orchard, Shihata's, on the south side of town [try the red apple syrup!]. PdC is on the joining of the Mississippi and Wisconsin rivers, old fur trading town going WAY back. Neat state parks with fantastic lookout points on both sides of the Mississippi. There was a casino paddlewheeler on the Iowa side with a nice buffet restaurant built into it's hotel base. Other things to see. House on the Rock just outside Spring Green, Wis., built by one VERY eccentric collector who collected EVERYTHING! You will have no idea just how much there is until you are in it. Among other things, the world's largest carousel. It's huge! The "House" part is something else. I want to steal some of the lamps, the doll houses, the "jewelry" etc.! Dodgeville is the home base of Land's End Clothing Co. Their outlet store in town had some great buys. Shullsburg, Wis. has it's own dairy/creamery co-op. When the parents in law were still with us, we would get a 30# care package from there every XMas. The cheese is great and the aged cheddar can and will be older than just about anything you can normally find in a store. Hubby literally raids the place every time we go there. One thing I'll say for the state of Wisconsin. I have never ridden a bike up there but the roads were always in good shape. Ray says they restrict construction to certain times of the year when the winter/cold weather won't mess up what they are trying to build. One of the reasons why I keep after him to get his mc license is so we can go up there on bikes and really enjoy the countryside. I keep getting told what the fall colors up there are like but we haven't made it up there at that time of the year yet, darn it! HAVE FUN!!
  23. I've had both. Roady II on the XM side and currently both a Starmate and Sportster 4 on the Sirius side. Strictly in my 4 wheelers tho, not on this bike as yet. Both services are great. I'm currently using just my Sirius radios as we follow Nascar and that is a Sirius channel. I did run my Roady on my last bike, mag antenna stuck on the brake resevoir with the radio stuck inside a fanny pack that was strapped around the handlebar mounts and a set of headphones. It worked!! We've had sat radios for years. Hubby is a 50's & 60's RnR fan and got so thoroughly pissed at the trouble he was having finding music he liked on standard AM/FM stations while we were travelling that he spent a nice piece of change to buy one of the early Sirius models. It's gotten to the point now that about the only place I listen to AM/FM radio is in the cab of our tractor as I haven't bought a mount for the radio to go in there. I have a boombox set up for the radios in the house and will be mounting a permanent outdoor antenna on the new deck when we get the darn thing built. Sirius and XM are the same company these days but do not have 100% the same programming. Major sports are split between the two, at least until their contracts expire as they were negotiated while the two were separate companies. The Nascar channel is Sirius but you can get it along with several other Sirius channels on XM for an extra fee. They do have commercials but not on the music channels. If you have Dish Network, you can listen to a fair selection of the Sirius music channels as they are part of DN's programming. About the only thing I don't like about them is the monthly fees. My two radios run me about $75 every 3 months. Just wish it was a lil cheaper.
  24. Sounds like a blast in the making. I'm planning on being there but it depends on work as usual. BTW ??"Cupcake 'aka Squidley'" ?? Ok what have I missed out on now????
  25. VERY Interesting!! I've seen one of these rigs before, mounted on a maroon GW. I've never seen a sidecar quite like it. Never knew who made it before now.
